My Sweet Enemy (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 14
Nok Hyeon and Lee Kyung had noticed the man tailing them long ago, and Lee Kyung pretended to leave while secretly following Nok Hyeon alongside the bodyguards.
Nok Hyeon had frequently been involved in accidents since long ago.
He’d narrowly escaped death more than once or twice.
At some point, he realized those incidents weren’t just accidents—they were orchestrated murder attempts.
Thus, Nok Hyeon had no choice but to prepare himself.
Thanks to that, he could detect potentially dangerous situations faster than others and had also reached an elite level in hand-to-hand combat.
He’d trained himself relentlessly to survive no matter what weapon was used against him, determined not to die a meaningless death like his younger brother.
In that sense, he was similar to Tae In.
Tae In, too, had nearly died several times—betrayed by the very people others called family.
Nok Hyeon knocked down three large men and then sat astride the sturdiest one’s back, pulling out his phone.
He recorded a video of Director Hwang trembling uncontrollably and wetting himself.
Then he sent it to Ji Un.
Yoo Ran was intelligent—she wouldn’t have planned something this obvious. It was probably the doing of his sweet younger half-brother, Ji Un.
[LOL, you’re totally screwed?]Ji Un replied almost immediately.
Nok Hyeon shoved his phone back into his pocket and kicked Director Hwang out of sheer frustration.
The container door opened, and Lee Kyung along with the bodyguards entered.
Lee Kyung’s jaw dropped as she took in the scene inside.
“Why’d you go so overboard? If you’d just waited a bit, we would’ve handled them for you.”
“Please take care of it.”
“You’re leaving?”
“Yeah, I said I’d wait.”
Nok Hyeon tossed his pistol to Lee Kyung, who grinned and handed him the car keys.
“Smash their heads in, you bastards!”
Leaving behind Lee Kyung’s excited voice—eager for her first real workout in ages—Nok Hyeon got into the car.
She’d been scolded harshly for stuttering in front of her parents’ guests.
Rubbing her stinging palms roughly against her thighs, she pulled a dried-out USB drive from the drawer.
Thanks to eating two bowls of rice these days, she found it right away.
It was lucky it hadn’t been discovered, though it seemed broken after being washed so many times.
The contents inside that USB were now lost forever.
But since she’d been told to treasure it,
she put it back inside the teddy bear.
Hearing voices outside, A Rin pulled out a fairy tale book and pretended to read.
She’d already read it dozens of times, so it wasn’t fun anymore—but when she was reading, adults never scolded or bothered her.
Suddenly, A Rin wished she could become invisible.
When the noise outside stopped, A Rin pulled out the phone Se Ji had returned to her from under her pillow.
After a brief moment of hesitation, she sent another email to Tae In.
As usual, Tae In went through the same ordinary day.
Recovering her memories was still painfully slow; aside from a few scenes from dreams, nothing else came back.
Though no one pressured her, she felt impatient.
It weighed heavily on her mind that she was just idling around, wasting time eating chicken.
And now, she had another worry.
If the reason for her divorce wasn’t that her husband didn’t love her, then what was it?
Why had her past self been so heartbroken when saying those words?
Somehow, she felt that if she figured that out, the rest of her memories might suddenly flood back.
“Let’s just do what I can right now.”
Tae In decided to write down things she disliked and liked in her notebook.
She couldn’t really think of anything she disliked.
Even while tearing into chicken and pondering deeply, nothing came to mind.
If she had to pick something, maybe mosquitoes? Because their bites itch, and scratching them stings?
“Maybe I should start with what I like.”
She didn’t even need to think about that. It flowed from her pen as if she’d already rehearsed it.
Her favorite color was yellow—the color of the pajamas she was wearing now.
Her favorite food? Creamy pasta? No—this chicken she was eating right now.
Her favorite season was summer—this very season.
And the person I like is…
Just as she wrote that, she heard a car outside.
Tae In wiped the grease off her hands and mouth. Stella, who’d been dozing at her feet, stood up too.
She’d planned to hide Stella in her room for a few days and find the right moment to explain—but got caught on the very first day.
Fortunately, Nok Hyeon hadn’t said much.
Unlike Stella, who stayed tense and guarded, Tae In ran barefoot to greet Nok Hyeon.
Nok Hyeon entered without a word and walked straight toward her.
A rich, intense fragrance reached her nose just before he leaned his head against her delicate shoulder.
Even though his much taller frame must’ve been awkward, he didn’t seem to care.
His usual immaculate appearance was unusually disheveled.
His suit jacket was missing entirely, and his shirt sleeves were haphazardly rolled up.
This scene, like the one in the bedroom, felt strangely unfamiliar,
as if she were experiencing it for the first time.
Seeing Nok Hyeon—normally so composed—acting so unlike himself, Tae In felt flustered. Still, she tried not to show it, gently patting his shoulder.
“Did someone at the office bully you?”
A soft chuckle reached her ears.
“Yeah, will you scold them for me?”
“I’ve never slacked off in training, just for moments like this.”
Tae In declared proudly, raising her clumsily clenched fist.
Nok Hyeon turned slightly to look at her small, round fist and burst into laughter.
His deep, pleasant laugh made Tae In’s chest tingle strangely.
Then she suddenly noticed bloodstains on his rolled-up shirt cuffs.
She grabbed his wrist to check—yes, it was blood.
Worried it might be elsewhere, she undid a button on his vest and peeked inside.
Thankfully, there were no other stains. She wanted to check under his shirt too, but his gaze—fixed intently and almost curiously on her hand—felt too intense.
“Are you hurt?”
Unlike Tae In’s urgent tone, Nok Hyeon remained calm.
“No, it’s my blood.”
“…Really?”
That was odd too.
Tae In gave him a suspicious look.
“Either check yourself, or like last time.”
Remembering that moment, Tae In froze and looked up at him.
Though his teasing tone made her bristle, her eyes glistened with more worry than anger.
“Then whose blood is it?”
“…Hmm, probably splattered while breaking up a fight.”
“Really?”
Tae In examined him carefully with a doubtful expression.
Nok Hyeon brushed her long hair to one side and rested his forehead against her bare shoulder.
“Cool.”
His forehead felt unusually hot against her skin.
Tae In practically dragged him to the sofa and made him lie down.
“I’m fine, really.”
Despite his lazy, amused tone, Tae In’s expression stayed firm.
She covered him with a blanket and rummaged through the first-aid kit.
No matter how hard she looked, there was no fever medicine.
Nok Hyeon lay with his arm under his head, watching her. Seeing Tae In’s small figure bustling around and the puppy trailing loyally behind her seemed to ease the frustration that had built up all day.
Tae In searched every corner of the house.
It was already getting dark, but she thought maybe a pharmacy might still be open—when her phone rang. It was Lee Kyung.
Tae In closed the door tightly before answering.
“Lee Kyung?”
—Just wanted to check if the Managing Director’s okay. His phone was off.
“What happened? His clothes are stained with blood, and he’s burning up…”
—The blood’s from a minor incident, and the fever… it’s that time again. The fever medicine’s in the kitchen cabinet.
“That time?”
—…
Unusually quiet for Lee Kyung. Tae In sensed something was off.
“Is it something you can’t tell me?”
—No. You already knew before you lost your memory, and you’ll regain it soon anyway. It’s his younger brother’s death anniversary—coming up soon. He always gets unwell around then for no clear reason.
This time, Tae In couldn’t find words right away.
He’d lost his younger brother.
She wanted to ask when it happened and how hard it must’ve been for Nok Hyeon—but couldn’t bring herself to.
“Thank you for telling me.”
She hung up and opened a browser on her phone.
There was plenty of information about Nok Hyeon, but nothing about his brother.
Giving up, she quickly searched for Choi Mo Ra.
[Horrific traffic accident scene: of two sons, only the elder, Kang, miraculously survived.]Tae In clicked the article.
It said a dump truck had rear-ended the car the two brothers were in, and ultimately, Nok Hyeon’s younger brother had died.
Tae In put down her phone and went to look for the fever medicine.
While pouring water, she sank into thought. His brother died in the same car, yet Nok Hyeon alone survived. She couldn’t even imagine the anguish he must’ve felt.
If every year around this time he fell ill for no reason, the trauma must’ve been immense—maybe he even had nightmares sometimes.
And each nightmare probably brought back that pain and grief with vivid clarity.
For some reason, it didn’t feel like someone else’s story to her. A familiar sorrow and pain seeped from deep within her chest.
Only when water spilled onto the back of her hand did she snap out of her thoughts.
Was it right to worry about him?
Her own situation might be even worse.
Shaking her head, she headed back to the sofa—but Nok Hyeon wasn’t there.
She went upstairs and found him just stepping out of the bathroom, wearing only a bathrobe, looking down at her.
“I came to give you the fever medicine…”
“Oh, thanks.”
Nok Hyeon took the medicine and water from her.
Tae In stole a glance as he swallowed.
Her eyes locked onto his throat moving dynamically,
and below that, his sharply defined chest muscles stole her breath away.
“What?”
Noticing her blatant stare, Nok Hyeon tilted his head slightly.
“Do you maybe not need me today?”
“What?”
“If you’re scared you’ll have nightmares or need someone to comfort you, I’m happy to stay with you.”
Tae In spoke sincerely.
She wanted to be with him. She wanted to recover her memories quickly so she could stand by his side as the perfect wife.
She wanted to go anywhere with him and stand proudly, naturally, right beside him.
And she realized something anew.
‘The person I like is right here in front of me.’
And one more thing—
“…What you just said.”
“Hm?”
“About sleeping together?”
She should probably be more careful with her words around Kang Nok Hyeon.
Male lead is a Love-Obsessed Merman
When he discovers she has gone, he risks everything to pursue her on land, enduring agonizing pain to transform his tail into human legs…
One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.
Synopsis
During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.
Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.
Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”
Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.
Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”
With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.
Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?
He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
