My Sweet Enemy (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 1
Nok Hyeon stepped out of the house dressed in a black suit.
Without a secretary or a driver, he drove himself to a funeral parlor.
Avoiding the reporters waiting at the main entrance, Nok Hyeon entered through the back door and stared blankly at the smiling portrait of his late wife, Tae In.
The Taegang factory in Hwaseong had exploded, and unfortunately, Tae In had been killed in the accident.
Not only was the cause of the explosion still unknown, but days of relentless heavy rain had made it impossible to even recover the body.
Nok Hyeon and Tae In had been nothing more than a show-window couple.
They used each other for their own purposes—capable of discarding the other without hesitation once their usefulness expired. There was no guilt or any other emotion between them.
The funeral parlor was silent. Not even a single friend or acquaintance was present. What kind of life had Tae In lived?
He did know one thing for certain: she had lived fiercely.
To become the owner of Taegang, Tae In had fought desperately against her bloodless half-siblings. She’d done everything imaginable—worked tirelessly and shamelessly exploited Nok Hyeon’s connections.
Everything she had fought so desperately to protect ultimately ended up in her siblings’ hands.
Thinking of Tae In’s lonely, unhappy life, Nok Hyeon felt a faint pang of guilt—perhaps his presence had made her life even more miserable.
Just as Nok Hyeon turned to leave the portrait behind, he paused at the faint tug on his sleeve.
He looked down at the small hand clutching his coat.
“Why, why, our sis, ni, why…?”
A Rin, her eyes swollen red from crying, looked up at Nok Hyeon. A Rin was Tae In’s half-sister, born after their father’s remarriage.
She had always stuttered, but now, overwhelmed with emotion, A Rin couldn’t even form proper words.
Frustrated with herself, she pounded her tiny fists against her chest and wept.
Though A Rin couldn’t say it clearly, Nok Hyeon understood what she meant.
She was blaming him for not saving her sister.
On the night Tae In died, A Rin had called him.
When she couldn’t get the words out, she hung up and sent a text instead:
“My sister might die. Please, save her.”
A Rin, who had been sobbing bitterly, now eyed Nok Hyeon’s calm, indifferent expression with a hint of confusion.
Nok Hyeon looked down at her silently for a moment, then gently patted her head.
He hadn’t known Tae In even had a younger sister until after their marriage.
At home, A Rin had been treated like an invisible person.
Once, he’d even witnessed Se Young, Tae In’s older sister, shouting at A Rin, calling her a “retarded X.”
And A Rin had been only seven years old at the time.
Nok Hyeon pulled his vibrating phone from his pocket and raised it to his ear.
“—Managing Director, you’d better come quickly.”
It was Lee Kyung, his secretary. Lee Kyung never lost her composure, no matter the situation.
Yet her voice now carried an unusual, subtle urgency.
“Has she woken up?”
“Yes, she’s awake. But there’s been a problem.”
Nok Hyeon hung up and immediately headed out.
He wondered if anything worse than this could possibly happen—but a bad feeling lingered.
Just then, someone stepped right in front of him, blocking his path.
“Brother-in-law, are you leaving already?”
Se Young, Tae In’s second older sister, asked as she neatly tucked her hair behind her ear.
Her face was flushed—whether from forcing out tears or some other reason, he couldn’t tell.
“Yes.”
Simply standing face-to-face with Se Young exhausted him. Suppressing his irritation, Nok Hyeon gave a curt reply.
“You’ll be back soon, right?”
“Who knows.”
“Tae In would be upset. Even if it was a political marriage…”
Se Young let her sentence trail off and pretended to wipe away tears.
Nok Hyeon frowned.
The ring on Se Young’s pinky finger, the overstuffed bracelet, the necklace obviously forced onto her neck—all of them had belonged to Tae In.
“I have an urgent matter to attend to.”
Trending
Nok Hyeon brushed past Se Young without another word.
There was something far more urgent than attending his wife’s funeral.
⭐⭐⭐
Nok Hyeon sped to the villa in his car. Registered under his cousin’s name, it was a place neither his own family nor Tae In’s family knew about.
Lee Kyung shot him a reproachful glance, as if to say, “Where have you been?” and whispered in the smallest voice possible,
“She caused quite a scene earlier, but after receiving a sedative, she’s resting now.”
Seo Tae In had thrown a tantrum.
It was an odd phrase to associate with Tae In. She rarely showed emotion—she often said displaying feelings openly and wasting them so transparently was the most foolish, useless thing one could do.
Nok Hyeon stared past Lee Kyung’s shoulder at the tightly shut door.
He knocked gently and opened it.
Tae In, lying in bed, blinked her eyes open groggily.
The Tae In who had been impeccably composed throughout their marriage was now utterly disheveled.
Her wavy hair was half-tied, half-loose, and the dress she wore was too big, exposing her bare shoulders.
Add to that the various cuts and bruises scattered over her body.
Spotting Nok Hyeon, Tae In startled upright.
Though she leaned back defensively, her pale eyes were brimming with curiosity.
After opening and closing her mouth several times, Tae In asked cautiously,
“Who are you?”
This was worse than he’d feared.
He never imagined Seo Tae In would say something like that.
Could she be acting?
“Your husband.”
At Nok Hyeon’s weary reply, Tae In’s already large eyes widened even more.
“You’re my husband?”
Nok Hyeon himself found this situation just as hard to accept as Tae In did.
When Nok Hyeon slowly nodded, Tae In clutched the blanket tightly with both hands.
Surprisingly, her expression was utterly innocent—her former sharp, haughty, suspicious demeanor completely gone.
“Did I get married?”
She didn’t seem to be acting—unfortunately.
Frowning, Nok Hyeon pulled out his wallet and showed her a photo inside.
It was their wedding picture.
Tae In compared the photo with the man in front of her, then covered her gaping mouth with her hand.
“No way.”
Had he ever seen this expression on her face during their time living together? Regardless of how annoyed he looked, Tae In just kept her hands over her mouth and mumbled, covering her whole face now,
“I married my ideal type…?”
Lee Kyung approached the speechless Nok Hyeon and whispered,
“She seems to have lost her memory. No, she definitely has. There’s no other explanation.”
Glancing over her shoulder, Lee Kyung added—she looked just as flustered as Nok Hyeon, if not more so.
They’d succeeded in secretly extracting Seo Tae In from the accident site.
But then a problem arose.
Tae In, who held the key to a case Nok Hyeon had been investigating for years, had lost her memory.
The moment he realized his plan had unraveled, a sharp headache hit him.
“Where’s Eun Seok?”
Eun Seok was Nok Hyeon’s cousin and a doctor—the only relative he could truly trust.
Right after Tae In lost consciousness, Nok Hyeon had contacted Eun Seok.
Though Eun Seok had scolded him for pulling off some insane scheme, he’d ultimately helped.
“He went on a date.”
I must’ve been an idiot to trust Eun Seok.
Wait—what did Seo Tae In just say? Her “ideal type”?
Nok Hyeon slowly turned his head back toward Tae In.

As if to confirm her earlier words weren’t a lie, Tae In crept closer.
She peeked at Nok Hyeon over Lee Kyung’s shoulder—but when their eyes met, she ducked back instantly.
Lee Kyung gently pried Tae In’s hands off her shoulders and gave her boss a sly smile.
“Since you’re here, I’ll take my leave.”
Lee Kyung was sharp. Sensing trouble brewing, she vanished like a shot.
Now alone with Tae In, Nok Hyeon found the situation painfully awkward.
Should he have her undergo a thorough examination?
But Seo Tae In was legally dead—going to a hospital was out of the question. He’d have to wait for Eun Seok to arrive to get accurate information.
Lost in thought, Nok Hyeon looked over at Tae In.
She’d been sneaking glances at him the whole time and flinched, shoulders tensing, when he met her eyes.
“Seo Tae In, be serious. You really don’t remember anything?”
Tae In nodded.
“How far back does your memory go? Do you remember what happened that day?”
“That day?”
Tae In’s eyes darted left and right.
“…Well, I don’t even know who you are.”
“You said you’re Seo Tae In.”
Tae In said this and then giggled like a little child.
Nok Hyeon had never seen this face before. Throughout their marriage, Tae In had never once genuinely smiled. She’d always been the calculating woman who cooperated only for her goals, her expression beautifully aloof and unreadable.
But that wasn’t the issue right now.
Could she really have lost all her memories? Was that even possible?
“Tell me what you do remember.”
“If you suddenly ask me like that…”
Tae In frowned, looking flustered.
“Pasta—creamy, thick, loaded with sauce.”
“…What?”
Nok Hyeon tilted his head at her words.
Just then, her stomach growled loudly.
“I think I liked that. I want to eat it.”
She said this and gave another shy smile.
Nok Hyeon couldn’t even manage a dry chuckle. Of all things—creamy pasta, in this situation?
He was dumbfounded.
But it was too soon to despair—this might just be temporary amnesia from the trauma of the accident.
Still… where was he supposed to find creamy pasta now?
Lee Kyung had stuffed the kitchen with food and ingredients, but still.
Just as Nok Hyeon moved to leave the room,
Tae In gently grasped his fingers.
At that unfamiliar warmth, Nok Hyeon froze instantly.
Tae In, staring blankly at his wedding ring, looked up at him.
“But can I ask you something?”
“No.”
“Then I’ll ask anyway.”
No, I said no.
Ignoring Nok Hyeon’s refusal, Tae In pressed on.
He expected her to blurt it out immediately—but unexpectedly, she hesitated. Her cheeks flushed red, seemingly embarrassed now that the moment had come.
Nok Hyeon looked half-dazed already. The entire scene felt unreal, like a movie sequence.
Her soft, warm hand holding his—and Tae In’s face, now resembling a love-struck girl.
Nok Hyeon watched the moment unfold slowly before his eyes, numb and bewildered.
Clearing her throat, Tae In’s eyes sparkled as she finally spoke,
“Who proposed first?”

At her words, Nok Hyeon felt the last taut thread of his nerves snap completely.
He had no choice but to accept it now.
His wife, who just days ago had coldly demanded a divorce, had become an entirely different person.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
