Ju Yeon wasn’t sure if Tae In was trying to console her or ridicule her.
But, what does she mean by “night”?
Min Gyu, who had been quietly listening, coughed awkwardly.
Even Nok Hyun let out a chuckle.
Despite the reactions of the three, Tae In opened her mouth.
“Being greedy can’t be helped, but this is crossing the line.”
She pointed to the glass as she spoke.
“Answer properly. Where did that drug come from?”
“That… uh…”
“Do as you wish if you want to take all the blame.”
Tae In hardened her normally softspoken expression with a smile.
“She wouldn’t be that stupid.”
Nok Hyun, who had been quiet the whole time, spoke.
Ju Yeon put on a gloomy expression at his cold tone.
“Why did you keep me by your side then? Didn’t you like me too? Even after we got married, you didn’t completely let go.”
As if grasping at straws, Ju Yeon spoke to Nok Hyun.
“If you hadn’t been close with Shim Yu Ran…”
Nok Hyun muttered. A spark ignited in Ju Yeon’s eyes.
“Was it because I was close with Shim Yu Ran that you didn’t accept me? Let me tell you upfront, I was only friendly with that woman because I liked you from the start. No, I pretended to be. Even now….”
“No, even if you hadn’t been close with Shim Yu Ran, I would’ve never become involved with you.”
What does that mean?
Ju Yeon couldn’t comprehend Nok Hyun’s words right away.
“Shim Yu Ran would have approached you to drag me down, and someday, you would have given her a loophole.”
“That’s why you didn’t let me go?”
“The police will be here soon. Of course, I didn’t call them. Shim Yu Ran did.”
“Why would my mother…”
Ju Yeon racked her brain.
‘Did she use me to ruin Kang Nok Hyun? She didn’t try to help me, but instead, wanted to drag me and Kang Nok Hyun into the mud!’
Ju Yeon’s hand, hidden under the table, trembled violently.
Betrayal came belatedly.
“You don’t have any evidence, do you?”
As Tae In asked again, Ju Yeon took out her phone.
“I recorded all our calls, just in case.”
Nok Hyun took Ju Yeon’s phone and transferred the files to his own.
It was to prevent Yu Ran from stealing the evidence.
“I gave you that, so I’m okay, right?”
Ju Yeon asked desperately.
“The police will be here soon.”
However, all Ju Yeon received was Nok Hyun’s icy words.
Nok Hyun, Tae In, and Min Gyu were released in the middle of the night after being questioned.
They could get out easily because the CCTV clearly captured the moment Ju Yeon slipped the drug.
Nok Hyun immediately contacted Lee Kyung as soon as he saw Joo Yeon at the drinking party.
Since she had stepped down from her representative position and her son was serving a prison sentence, Yoo Ran would have had nothing to lose. It wasn’t difficult for Nok Hyun to anticipate that she would use Joo Yeon, an easy target, to corner him.
Lee Kyung was checking the CCTV inside the store, and after noticing Joo Yeon spiking the drink, he called and informed Nok Hyun.
He had anticipated Joo Yeon and Yoo Ran’s move, but Tae In’s appearance was unexpected.
“I never dreamed that Joo Yeon would go that far. I should have stopped her in time, I am truly sorry, I have no excuse.”
He had failed as a friend but was useful as a bait.
Since Nok Hyun had never trusted him to begin with, there was no room for disappointment, but Min Kyu repeatedly apologized.
After apologizing to Tae In several times, he took a taxi and went home.
“Did you come to rescue me?”
Nok Hyun put his arm around Tae In’s shoulder and asked.
Had her tension been released, Tae In, who was yawning listlessly, looked up at Nok Hyun.
“You knew all along, didn’t you?”
Ignoring Nok Hyun’s playful gaze, Tae In spoke.
She was worried about what might happen to Nok Hyun, so much so that she couldn’t tell.
She ran holding her shoes in her hand on the way from the taxi to the bar.
She remembered trying to control her breath and tidy up her hair in front of the room so as not to seem hurried, and Tae In smiled bitterly.
“But I’m touched.”
Nok Hyun said, ruffling Tae In’s hair.
Tae In looked at Nok Hyun with wide eyes.
Indeed, as Joo Yeon had said, she, who was a female friend of Nok Hyun, was a concern.
Joo Yeon was a celebrity, pretty, and even sensual.
Before she lost her memory, she thought Joo Yeon was Nok Hyun’s secret lover.
Joo Yeon was too confident, and Nok Hyun did not pay attention to Tae In. It seemed like they had a separate plan.
But that was all part of the plan.
It felt a little empty, irritating, and complicated.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Because my appearance is too perfect?”
At Nok Hyun’s words, Tae In blushed.
It was what Tae In had said at the bar. She had said it to provoke Joo Yeon, but hearing it from Nok Hyun’s mouth brought back that moment, and she felt embarrassed.
“You, Kang Nok Hyun, seem quite brazen when I look closely.”
“That’s part of my perfection, isn’t it?”
His tone was still teasing.
She was worried about someone and ran barefoot to help, but the person involved was making fun with such a calm face.
Tae In elbowed Nok Hyun’s side.
Well, she admitted his perfection.
“But how did you know? About the drug.”
“Do you know Oh Hye Sung? She’s an actress. She heard what Joo Yeon was saying and told me.”
Tae In thought about Hye Sung for a moment.
She had only considered her a rival, but she ended up owing her unintentionally.
It was strange in a way. She couldn’t believe that Hye Sung went to the extent of finding her phone number to help her.
Was it because she was a fan, by any chance?
“Ah, I know.”
“You know?”
“She came to my funeral.”
She came to my funeral?
Tae In couldn’t hide her surprised expression.
“That’s not like her.”
They weren’t that close either.
“She was quite impactful, I remember. She poured water on the crowd that was badmouthing you.”
“…That’s unbelievable.”
Even though she knew Nok Hyun wouldn’t lie, she couldn’t believe it.
“But is that true?”
“What?”
“That you’re a man who is perfect in appearance, ability, wealth, and even in bed.”
Ah, she wondered why he hadn’t brought that up yet.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
