“That… that’s what—no, why…?”

Her fragmented words fell apart before they could fully form.

Unlike someone who had just heard a heart-fluttering confession, Yu In’s face first twisted in shock, then flushed crimson like a ripe tomato.

She slapped away the finger touching her chin with a sharp tap and quickly covered her mouth with the back of her hand.

Ki Yeon, noticing her ears and neck reddening through her hair from rising heat, pulled back lazily with a smile.

“I only answered because you asked, so you don’t have to say anything right now.”

“…”

“Anyway, it’s probably not the answer I even wanted to hear.”

“…Why not?”

Though she mumbled so faintly it was barely audible, Ki Yeon heard and asked back.

“What do you mean, ‘why’?”

“…You don’t know anything about me.”

“Do you have to know something to like someone? Is that how it works for you, Yu In?”

It was an answer both simple and utterly plain.

Faced with Ki Yeon’s question, Yu In had nothing to say. She’d never liked anyone before, so she didn’t know what it even meant to “like” someone.

Could you really like someone without knowing anything about them? Was it truly that simple? Yu In only felt confused.

Ah, this person had always been like this—everything came easily to him. Showing interest in someone, confessing his feelings, even getting rejected—it was all effortless.

Every single one of those things was difficult for Yu In.

“I… about Yu Jin…”

“What about her?”

His voice, calm to the point of arrogance, settled deep into her eardrums.

“This has nothing to do with Nam Yu Jin. It’s just between you and me, Yu In. Don’t drag Nam Yu Jin into something that’s only about us.”

“…”

“Do you understand?”

As always, his low, weighty tone demanded the answer he wanted, but Yu In only bit down hard on her lips.

All the emotions she felt now were nameless, anonymous things she couldn’t even recognize.

That’s how most things from him were—nameless and incomprehensible.

What was this feeling—neither good nor bad? What was the name of this emotion making her chest tight and her breath catch, urging her to run away?

Would this person, who seemed to know everything and found everything easy, know its name?

“Director… have you always been like this?”

“Like what?”

“…Showing interest, being kind, liking someone—even though you hardly know them… Is it really something you can decide that quickly?”

Her muttering was so quiet it barely rose above a whisper, almost swallowed by the air.

Ki Yeon stared quietly at her slender neck, still flushed from lingering heat, before speaking.

“What makes everything so hard for you, Nam Yu In?”

He grasped her narrow, trembling shoulders and turned her toward him.

Yu In tried to shrink away and avoid his gaze, but she couldn’t resist the strength of his large hands.

Finally turning her to face him, Ki Yeon met her eyes directly.

Unlike her large, unsettled, and trembling eyes, his gaze was straight and unwavering.

“You can’t say something’s easy or wrong just because you knew the answer first. Only you know your own process.”

“…”

“I’ve simply accepted my own state quickly. I know exactly why I feel this way. So don’t measure it with some strange standard, acting like it’s shallow or simple. You don’t know how I truly feel, Nam Yu In.”

Ki Yeon’s lips curved lazily upward into a smile.

His dark eyes, shimmering with quiet light, were full of certainty.

“It’ll probably feel difficult for you right now—accepting anything at all. So just follow slowly. You only need to keep your eyes on me. I’ll wait until you catch up.”

Hearing his confident words, Yu In only felt herself sink deeper into confusion.

His arrogance, which completely excluded the possibility of her rejection, and his bold certainty that she would come to him—it was irritating, yet it squeezed her heart painfully.

Seeing Yu In’s brow furrow deeply amid this maze of unanswered questions, Ki Yeon smiled gently and brushed her cheek lightly, as if to comfort her.

“Think about it slowly. Don’t even consider running away.”

“…Running away?”

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

At the touch of his cool fingertips, Yu In’s shoulders trembled faintly.

Seemingly pleased even by that reaction, Ki Yeon gave a small chuckle and started the car.

“Put on your seatbelt.”

Yu In, not immediately understanding, just stared blankly at Ki Yeon gripping the steering wheel.

Only when he laughed aloud and asked, “What are you doing?” did she snap back to her senses.

Outside the window, the rain had already lessened, and her damp knitwear and hair were nearly dry. His spell-like moment had ended, and now it was time to return to reality.

“Oh… right.”

She answered, but her dazed hands floated uselessly in the air. Then, a hand suddenly reached out from beside her, stopped her fumbling, and fastened the belt for her.

Ki Yeon’s car skillfully exited the campus and quickly merged onto the slow-moving road clogged by the rain.

Inside the car, which kept halting and starting again, an odd stillness settled between them. Yu In kept her eyes fixed outside, fidgeting with the blanket just as before.

Ki Yeon glanced briefly at her small, pale fingers moving restlessly and said casually,

“But why haven’t you ever dated?”

Yu In’s reply came after a slight pause.

“…Do I have to?”

“Not necessarily. But did everyone around you really just leave you alone, Nam Yu In?”

Ki Yeon gave a laugh that sounded like either mockery or admiration—she couldn’t tell which.

“I don’t care about that sort of thing.”

“Why don’t you care?”

“Because if feelings inevitably change and fade anyway, I don’t understand why I should waste my time and effort on them.”

Her voice sounded close to resignation.

Though she spoke of dating specifically, in truth, this applied to all her relationships with others.

At first, things were good, fun, thrilling, happy—but eventually they always faded, warped by baseless rumors or meaningless words. She’d already had her fill of those instant, disposable connections.

Being alone was easier. That was why she walked through her department by herself, too. She hated explaining herself in detail, and frankly, didn’t need to.

It was enough that just the two people beside her right now knew she was related to a famous celebrity—and the deep, hidden scars she carried.

“Do you think it’ll be the same this time?”

When Yu In looked at Ki Yeon, his drowsy, half-lidded eyes met hers.

“Do you think I’ll change too?”

It wasn’t an accusation or anger—just a calm question—but she still couldn’t readily say “yes.”

Since he wasn’t pushing her, Yu In swallowed hard, hesitated for a long while, and finally spoke.

“…I don’t know.”

“That’s the right answer.”

“…”

“No one knows whether something will change or not until it reaches its end. That’s perfectly natural—so why give up before even starting? What are you so afraid of?”

Ki Yeon looked forward again, but Yu In kept watching his profile silently.

She’d stopped being afraid of meeting new people long ago—so what part of her did this man see that made him think otherwise?

She thought she’d hidden it well, lived that way all along, yet his words—spoken as if difficulty didn’t exist and failure was unimaginable—kept exposing her as though he saw right through to her core.

Curious where his unshakable resolve came from, Yu In stared at him for a long time—until Ki Yeon, smiling lightly, flicked her cheek with his index finger.

“What’s with that intense look? Hoping I’ll promise I’ll never change?”

“No.”

She instantly turned her head away with that reply.

Then, from behind her, came a low voice—light but not weightless.

“Yu In. Don’t act like you’ve already lived a whole lifetime. You’re only twenty-three.”

“…”

“You don’t even have enough time in this world to worry about anything else—just do what you want and live.”

“…Do you live like that, Director?”

Ki Yeon gave a small laugh, lifting the corner of his mouth as if saying, “Me?”

“I thought I was doing exactly that, but lately I’ve started wondering if maybe I’m not.”

“Why?”

“I focused solely on studying when it was time, then plunged into nonstop work for years after joining the company. Aside from that, I never really found much else interesting.”

Yu In, having turned halfway toward him, blinked her large eyes and asked, “But…?”

“But now I’ve realized there’s something in my life even more enjoyable than that.”

He smiled widely, dimples deepening, and briefly glanced toward the passenger seat.

“Like canceling a meeting to go pick up a woman who hates the rain.”

“Huh? Wait—you canceled a meeting to come here?”

Yu In asked in astonishment, but Ki Yeon only smiled playfully and didn’t answer.

“Seriously?”

“Does it really matter?”

He tapped his fingers idly on the steering wheel, indifferent.

Though Ki Yeon insisted afterward it had only been a joke, Yu In didn’t believe him and kept staring at him with anxious, distrustful eyes.

“Stop whining. You really do sound just like a puppy.”

As Ki Yeon unbuckled his belt and prepared to get out, he tossed that remark lightly her way—and Yu In flushed indignantly.

“When did I whine? I didn’t make a sound!”

“You did. I heard everything.”

With a mischievous grin, Ki Yeon stepped out of the car first.

Following him after their abrupt conversation ended, Yu In looked around—and suddenly realized they’d already reached her apartment entrance, startling her.

Just as she hurriedly gathered her things and was about to get out, the car door swung open.

“Let’s go.”

Ki Yeon stood there holding the umbrella they’d shared earlier.

The soft pattering of light rain on the umbrella filled the air, and beneath it, he waited for her.

He silently accompanied her inside the apartment complex after helping her out of the car.

Yu In walked beside him in silence, shoulders nearly touching, through the drizzling rain.

Just as they approached her building, Ki Yeon suddenly spoke.

“Oh, that reminds me—you asked me to take you to the wrong apartment the first time we met, Nam Yu In.”

Yu In immediately frowned and looked up at him.

“…You’ve got a good memory. You could’ve just forgotten that.”

“Why would I forget? I have to bring it up like this just to see that flustered look on your face.”

“Is my flustered face funny to you?”

Ki Yeon chuckled softly, watching her puffed-up, sulky cheeks.

“If I said you looked cute like that, would you call me crazy?”

“…Wow.”

Yu In gave him the most incredulous look imaginable—and Ki Yeon, apparently finding her expression hilarious, burst into laughter, shoulders shaking.

Gone was the suited executive who’d canceled meetings and come specially in the rain to shield her—he now wore only a shirt, his hair casually tousled, smiling more relaxedly than usual.

Yu In finally felt she was seeing his true self.

Not as a director of some corporation, not as someone looking down from high above at insignificant underlings.

Just Do Gi Yeon—the man himself.

Standing before the woman he’d confessed to, his eyes bright with laughter, he radiated warmth like sun-dried blankets and glowed with the gentle light of contentment.

Yu In wanted to reach out and touch that warmth—but hesitation held her hand back.

She, a satellite forever orbiting the same path, felt she could never truly reach the blazing sun radiating intense heat.

“I’ll go in now.”

“…Okay.”

His cool hand gave her back a gentle pat. As she stepped out from under the umbrella, touched by that kind gesture, sudden clarity struck her.

Ah—just as he’d said, she really had been afraid.

She was scared of this person who’d walked such a different path from hers—her own heart confessed it plainly.

“I’ll contact you.”

Yu In bit her lip, gave a quick bow, and swiftly turned away.

If she stayed beside him any longer, his warm comfort might engulf her completely—and her breath would surely choke off entirely.

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

27/12/2025
Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead is a Divorced Husband

She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.

After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.

She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.

But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…

Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

――

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!

The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.

That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”

Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”

The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”

That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”

Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”

The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.

Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.

“She was originally a ‘she’!”

At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.

The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”

You’re bound to regret it if you skip this novel. Read the review & spoiler to find out what you might be missing!
