Distracted, she missed the mechanical voice announcing the lobby. The doors suddenly opened to sparsely arranged employees.
“Ah… people.”
“It’s okay.”
Gyeon murmured lowly, shielding the front and holding Yuin’s stiffened hand more firmly.
Spotting Gyeon, the employees politely bowed their heads. One last woman who hopped on exclaimed brightly, “Director Do, working two shifts today!”
Gyeon nonchalantly nodded in response, transforming the relatively cool interior into a frigid Siberian atmosphere.
The tension forced the employees to stand straight, staring ahead, before quickly exiting mid-floor, giving Yuin a moment of relief.
“You did that on purpose.”
“What?”
“Being so cold to that woman who greeted you.”

“Cold?”
Gyeon tilted his head in confusion.
“I didn’t realize I was cold.”
Seemingly uninterested and unaware, Gyeon’s apparent default setting in social interactions seemed either purely professional or inadvertently rude.
Yuin recalled her sister mentioning a boss who was good at work but terrible in personality. That complaint was spot-on.
While reminiscing, Gyeon pulled her out of her thoughts with a sudden tug. They had arrived at his chosen floor.
Unlike the white exterior, the corridor they stepped into had ash-gray marble floors and walls, exuding a stark modernity.
“Here you are.”
A man emerged from a mid-corridor office, bowing silently, startling Yuin.
With a light click of his tongue, Gyeon drew in her hunched shoulders and dryly responded.

“Is everyone here?”
“Yes, waiting in the conference room. But…”
The man in a navy blue suit glanced from Gyeon’s arm, down his hand, to Yuin. In a flash, his neat demeanor wavered then quickly recovered.
Yuin flinched, albeit for a different reason this time.
“Get us something to drink. Yuin, what would you like?”
The question abruptly changed direction. Yuin was again taken aback.
“Uh… nothing for me.”
“Do you have something warm? Ah, how about tea? With milk.”
His sudden shift in conversation left Yuin disoriented once more.
Yuin tapped the arm of Gyeon, who was ordering something she didn’t even ask for. Gyeon looked at Yuin with a playful expression already forming on his face.
The unidentified man subtly shifted his body, sharing Yuin’s discomfort in this setting. Only one person seemed to be enjoying the moment.

Finally, the man in front, promising to prepare warm herbal tea, left first, and the still amused Gyeon opened a thick wooden door on the opposite side.
Gyeon’s office was unmistakably characteristic of him.
Entering, Yuin was immediately greeted by his signature fresh scent. The space, with only essential furnishings, was so clean in its black and white scheme, it was almost pristine.
“Just wait here for a bit, I’ll be quick.”
Gyeon pointed to a black sofa as if designating Yuin’s waiting spot, then walked towards his large desk.
As Yuin sat down, Gyeon was checking his monitor, taking off his vest that was constricting his upper body, and loosening his tie.
Through the large window behind him, dark rain clouds seemed eerily close.
Knock, knock.
While Yuin was intently observing Gyeon, who looked like a model straight out of a foreign magazine, she turned her head at the sound of a knock.
Though no one responded, the door quietly opened. This time, a different person entered, holding a small tray.

A young man in a neat suit approached Yuin with a sincere smile, coming straight to her.
“I’ll serve you the tea. Is there anything else you need?”
“No, uh, nothing else. Thank you.”
Receiving Yuin’s bewildered thanks, the man gently placed the steaming mug down and stepped back, then addressed Gyeon.
“Director, the CEO is also in the conference room.”
Gyeon’s desk emitted a frustrated sigh at this brief report.
Rubbing his rain-disheveled hair, Gyeon’s gesture was a mix of annoyance, irritation, and vexation.
Yuin speculated from this reaction. Perhaps Director Do Gyeon and the Ilrang CEO don’t get along well.
“Oh, and Secretary Kim, please fetch something from the back seat of my car.”
“Certainly.”

After handing over his car keys to the man referred to as Secretary Kim, Gyeon approached Yuin in a white shirt, having removed his loosely hanging tie. He dropped a soft cloth into her hand.
“I’ll be back soon. Wait here obediently.”
Although slightly irked by the word ‘obediently,’ Yuin nodded, having no other place to go within his fortress.
Until he returned.
Gyeon, seemingly pleased with the implied promise in her compliance, pressed down on Yuin’s head with a proud smile before leaving the office.
