Lily had thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep with so many worries on her mind, but surprisingly, she fell asleep the moment her head touched the pillow. She even slept soundly through the night without waking once.

Two years ago, when the fire broke out at Viscount Benjamin’s mansion, Lily lost her father, her beloved family members, and even her dreams and happiness—all at once—and had suffered from terrible insomnia ever since.

Her insomnia had eased slightly after her mother’s condition, which everyone had unanimously declared hopeless, miraculously improved—but she still hadn’t been able to sleep soundly. Usually, she only managed short naps of one or two hours at a time, never sleeping more than three hours even on her best nights.

Of course, there were times when sheer physical exhaustion knocked her out cold, and she wouldn’t wake until morning.

But today wasn’t one of those cases. In fact, she’d expected to toss and turn with so much on her mind, so Lily tilted her head in puzzlement over how deeply she’d slept.

It wasn’t because this bed was softer or more comfortable than her own. Neither the pillow nor the blanket seemed particularly responsible for her restful sleep.

“Surely they didn’t slip sleeping pills into my hot chocolate?”

It felt so strange that Lily entertained even this absurd suspicion, and she kept pondering the reason while the maids helped her change clothes.

“Which dress would you prefer, Miss?”

Lily’s thoughts shifted when the maids asked the question. They each held a blue and a pink dress. Neither lace-heavy gown suited Lily’s taste, but both seemed to match the preferences of whoever owned this room—after all, even the nightgown Lily currently wore was lavishly trimmed with lace.

Wait a moment—did that mean she’d slept in someone else’s bedroom? Whose room was this? And whose estate was this mansion? Given that the maids addressed Harold as “young master”… Could this possibly be a villa belonging to House Maximilian?

Though it seemed odd for a villa to be located in the city center, especially on Royal White Street, it would be plausible for House Maximilian. After all, they wielded power second only to the imperial family on the continent—and some even claimed their wealth surpassed that of the imperial house itself.

“Um… could you tell me where exactly this place is?”
