“And I’ve discovered that the person who killed Madam Megan wasn’t her husband.”

Noticing Lily’s discomfort, Harold smoothly changed the subject. Lily responded immediately.

“On that day, someone saw several men following Madam Megan.”

“Is that really true? Then why did the investigators conclude her husband was the culprit?”

“Because no witness came forward.”

Even if someone had, it likely wouldn’t have changed anything—no adult would believe the testimony of a mere ten-year-old boy.

“Still, just in case, I plan to meet her husband.”

“Have you found out where he is?”

“Not yet. But my subordinate is searching diligently, so we should find him soon.”

Harold added jokingly that his subordinate was capable and not to worry, but Lily couldn’t bring herself to smile. She felt troubled, thinking Harold was going through so much trouble because of her.

Yet, if she told him to stop, the thought of those strange men trailing Megan nagged at her. Harold had assured her they weren’t connected to Frederick, so it couldn’t have been his men. Then who on earth had done such a thing?
