Why is Frederick standing in front of my bedroom?

It had been a year since their marriage, yet faced with this unfamiliar sight, Lily dazedly called out his name. Though she’d merely muttered it to herself, Frederick somehow heard and turned to look at her.

He’d apparently been back for over an hour, yet he was still dressed in his outdoor attire. Judging by the fact he’d even kept his coat perfectly fastened, it seemed he was about to leave again.

After only returning home two days ago, where could he possibly be going now?

Lily quickly dismissed the sudden question that popped into her mind. Wherever Frederick went had nothing to do with her.

“What’s the matter?”

Curious as to why he was standing right outside her bedroom, Lily asked Frederick, who had by now stepped right in front of her.

His eyes behind the spotlessly clean lenses looked more irritable than usual, but Lily paid it no mind. Whatever had upset him surely had nothing to do with her.

“Why did you fight with Mother?”

…She’d thought it had nothing to do with her, but apparently it did.

Especially since it concerned Samantha, Lily felt an exasperated sigh bubbling up inside her.

Yet outwardly, she showed no sign of it and looked straight at Frederick. She suddenly noticed his outdoor clothes again—it occurred to her he might not have changed because he’d been too busy listening to Samantha’s complaints rather than preparing to go out again.

Is that why he came to my room? To quickly appease Samantha as soon as possible?

“I asked why you fought with Mother.”

When Lily didn’t answer, Frederick scowled and repeated his question. His voice, tangled with irritation and annoyance, scratched at her eardrums.

Anyone else might have flinched under that tone, but Lily didn’t. Why should she shrink back when she’d done nothing wrong?

Instead, she straightened her back and replied calmly.

“I merely told Mother that I don’t love you, so there’s no chance I’d go mad like her—therefore, she needn’t worry.”

Frederick sneered.

“And you also said I might be impotent.”

The blunt yet embarrassing word flustered Lily slightly—but only briefly. She quickly composed her expression, lowered her head slightly, and apologized.

“I didn’t mean it that way, but if it upset you, I apologize.”

She meant it sincerely. Though she’d snapped those words in the heat of Samantha’s harsh insults, she’d never actually suspected Frederick might have such an issue.

Yet her sincerity didn’t seem to reach him—Frederick twisted his lips. Folding his arms, he tilted his head and looked down at her.

“Is that how someone who’s apologizing should act? It certainly doesn’t look that way to me.”

“I…”

Before Lily could respond, Frederick continued.

“If I’ve misunderstood anything, I’ll apologize. After all, I was born a commoner, so I don’t understand noble etiquette very well.”

He was mocking the exact words Lily had used when questioning Samantha—“Are you ill-mannered just because you’re a commoner?”

It surprised Lily slightly that proud Samantha would repeat even that. It must have been truly humiliating and shocking for her to have been scolded by Lily.

Of course, Lily didn’t believe Samantha had recounted everything truthfully. Like most people, she’d likely only mentioned the parts favorable to herself—which explained Frederick’s current attitude.

“There seems to be a misunderstanding. Let me explain everything—”

“I don’t want to hear it.”

Again, Frederick cut Lily off before she could finish, his tone firm.

“I don’t need to hear it.”

“…So you already know exactly what Mother told you about me.”

Frederick answered simply by looking at her—confirmation enough.

Ha. Lily let out a hollow laugh and brushed aside the strands of hair falling over her face. She’d never expected Frederick to side with her, yet his attitude still disappointed her.

It was almost strange to realize she still had something left in him to be disappointed by.

“If you already know everything, then I have nothing more to say. Excuse me.”

“Wait.”

As Lily tried to walk past him, Frederick grabbed her wrist, almost snatching her back. He’d seized the exact spot Brian had gripped earlier. Instantly, the humiliation Brian had inflicted on her surged back, stiffening her small shoulders.

You don’t need to be afraid. It’s alright.

Lily forced herself to steady her emotions and looked up at Frederick, who now blocked her path again. But her green eyes still faintly betrayed the fear she hadn’t quite hidden.

Frederick’s eyes gleamed with amusement as he instantly noticed.

“For your mother’s sake, it’d be wise to drop that useless pride of yours.”

At the mention of her mother, Lily’s eyes widened.

Is he threatening me with my mother again? Again, and again, and again!

Fury surged within her—but this wasn’t anything new. The Benjamins, including Frederick, had held Grace’s life over Lily’s head for threats countless times before.

Reacting with anger each time was foolish. Only someone reasonable would listen—but they clearly weren’t, making it even more pointless.

If they were reasonable to begin with, they wouldn’t make such threats at all.

Lily glared fiercely at Frederick, her green eyes blazing with fear and rage. In contrast, Frederick merely smiled as if amused by her anger.

His shameless, detestable face grated even more on Lily’s nerves. She wanted nothing more than to grab him by the collar and scream—how could he do this? Was it fun to poke at someone else’s wounds?

But that would only fan the flames, so Lily clenched her teeth and held back. She forcefully suppressed the rising anger by thinking of her mother—her most beloved person and only hope.

“Anyone else might say that… but you shouldn’t.”

Instead, she clenched her fists until they turned bone-white and spat out each word deliberately.

“You agreed to cover all of Mother’s medical expenses in exchange for my hand in marriage—and for entrusting you with Viscount Benjamin’s title. And yet you say this… surely you’re not thinking of breaking that promise now?”

“Of course not, my lady.”

Frederick placed a hand over his chest, lowered his gaze slightly, and offered a faint smile. It was exactly how he’d looked the first time Lily met him. Recalling how she’d once thought him a courteous, elegant gentleman—never imagining he was trash beneath a gentleman’s mask—Lily bit down hard on her lip.

“I’ll absolutely keep my promise. But the location might need to change.”

“The location… might change?”

What did that mean?

Unable to understand his words, Lily asked again. Frederick rubbed his chin thoughtfully, gazing into the air as if pondering something.

“I hear the medical technology in the Kingdom of Whisen is the best on the continent… I’m considering sending Lady Grace Benjamin there.”

The Kingdom of Whisen was a distant island nation, requiring over half a month by ship from the Empire. Sending Grace there effectively meant Lily might never see her mother again.

Lily could have chosen to accompany Grace, but that required Frederick’s permission—as cursed Empire law dictated.

Realizing Frederick’s true intention only now, Lily’s eyes widened in horror. Fear of permanent separation from her mother consumed her green eyes, making them tremble helplessly.

Lily clenched her shaking hands as tightly as her trembling eyes and glared at Frederick.

“Are you… threatening me right now?”

“This isn’t a threat—it’s a warning. A warning not to cause unnecessary trouble.”

“How is this a warning? It’s a threat!”

Her voice, sharpened to a needle’s point, echoed loudly down the corridor like a haunting reverberation.

“How can you threaten me like this? I’m the one who was insulted! Instead of even asking if I’m alright, you threaten me using my mother…”

Her emotions surged, making her eyes burn hot.

She didn’t want to cry. Never in front of this man, who’d crushed her dreams and dignity beneath his false mask.

But memories of being belittled by Samantha, Brian, and the servants over the past two days flooded back, making it hard to control her emotions.

“Do you… even consider me your wife?”

Because of that, Lily finally voiced a question she’d always wondered but never dared ask—and instantly regretted it. She already guessed what Frederick would say. She was certain he’d deny regarding her as his wife.

“Of course I consider you my wife.”

“…”

Stunned by the completely unexpected answer, Lily blinked wide-eyed.

“I consider you my wife—that’s precisely why I stay silent while you live off my money.”

If he’d stopped there, she might have felt a flicker of emotion. But his next words ruthlessly scraped at her pride and filled her with humiliation.

“In case you’re unaware, what I hold over you isn’t just Lady Grace Benjamin’s medical bills.”

Frederick adjusted the collar of Lily’s slightly disheveled clothes as he continued.

“The very room you live in, the clothes you wear, the food you eat… I hold it all as leverage over you.”

Lily wanted to deny it—but she couldn’t. Every word was true.

Had she not married Frederick, she wouldn’t have been able to pay for her mother’s treatment, let alone maintain her current standard of living.

That truth gnawed further at her pride and sealed her lips shut. The clothes on her back felt as heavy as stones and prickled like thorns.

“So know your place and live quietly as a mouse, my lady.”

Having finished adjusting her collar, Frederick lightly grasped the long strand of Lily’s hair resting over her chest, pressed a kiss upon it, and whispered,

“Otherwise, next time—even if you rent a public carriage, you won’t be allowed to see your mother.”

When yandere male lead believes she loves him — but she never did

“How dare you!”

“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?

“I will never accept that.”

“I will never let you return to him.”

“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”

“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”

“I will never let you escape me!”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!

At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.

Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.

The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.

Synopsis:

Want to see how a green tea bitch male lead falls in love with the female lead?

Want to see how he flirtatiously pursues the female lead?

Want to see how he gets slapped in the face repeatedly?

The male lead is a green tea bitch, a poisonous lotus, jealous, ruthless, unscrupulous, with a venomous heart, and he’s also a delusional maniac.

The female lead is righteous, positive energy-filled, kind, a holy mother.

Let’s see how two people with extreme personalities come together~

You’re bound to regret it if you skip this novel. Read the review & spoiler to find out what you might be missing!
