Dillon stared at Harold with an incredulous look as the latter extended his hand without so much as a simple greeting like “Did you arrive?” Harold, as the son of a duke, was indeed a free-spirited man who seldom bothered with formalities or etiquette—but there was a clear difference between disregarding etiquette and having none at all.

Perhaps that was why. Dillon didn’t want to give Harold the letter. From the start, he hadn’t liked the idea of Harold and Lily exchanging letters.

“Why are you just standing there? Has something happened?”

Dillon swallowed his inner frustration, worry, and a sigh. Then he pulled the letter from his breast pocket and held it out to Harold. Harold snatched it quickly and waved his hand dismissively, signaling Dillon to leave.

But Dillon didn’t leave and instead asked,

“When do you plan to return to Cardin?”

Harold tilted his head back slightly and looked at Dillon.

“Why ask that all of a sudden?”

“Well, you’ve been away from Cardin for quite some time. Now that the Salaman tribe has been defeated, there shouldn’t be any major issues for now, but I still think it’s unwise to leave your post vacant for too long.”

“That’s true.”
