Harold stepped out of the hospital building before Lily, but he hadn’t left completely yet. He concealed himself in a suitable spot and watched until Lily safely exited the hospital before finally taking hold of his horse’s reins.

He wanted to follow her all the way to Viscount Benjamin’s mansion, but that would have seemed too much like stalking. Moreover, he’d confirmed that Dillon’s guards were firmly watching over her, so there was no need to do it himself.

By the time he left the suburban convalescent hospital and entered the city center, the sky—once bluish—had turned fully crimson. Behind the distant mountains, a pitch-black curtain had already descended.

The streets were chaotic with people hurrying home before sunset. The crowd was so dense that walking at a normal pace, let alone a quick one, was nearly impossible. Worried an accident might happen if he wasn’t careful, Harold briefly halted his horse and took out the note Lily had given him.

“This doesn’t seem to be in the capital.”

There was no street named Maple in the capital, after all. So it must be either in the suburbs or another city. If it were another city, it would be difficult to visit in person. Hoping it was the suburbs, Harold thought about the woman named Megan.

Harold hadn’t asked Lily anything because he already knew who Megan was. She’d been Grace Benjamin’s caregiver. He also knew that the current caregiver had spoken with Robert, Frederick’s aide, in the central garden—and her name was Margaret.

But that was all he knew. He recognized her name and appearance, but had no idea how old she was, where she lived, or anything about her family.

So was the address on the note Megan’s home? Since Lily had asked him to check whether Megan lived there, it was highly likely.

He didn’t know why Megan had left the address, but he had a strong feeling it wasn’t for any good reason. Perhaps it had something to do with Frederick.

‘I’ll need to investigate Margaret as well.’

Margaret was definitely Frederick’s pawn. Harold wanted to understand why Frederick was watching over Lily and her mother, Grace Benjamin.

He also needed to find evidence proving that the Second Prince had killed the Late Viscount Benjamin and set fire to Viscount Benjamin’s mansion. Just thinking about it made his irritation surge, and Harold frowned, running a hand through his tousled hair. He desperately wanted a cigarette.

There was so much to uncover that he felt a bit overwhelmed, but precisely in such moments, he had to stay calm and tackle things one by one. He should start with what he could handle immediately.
