The place Harold took Lily was a small restaurant about a thirty-minute walk from their meeting spot. Though the building’s exterior looked somewhat worn, the interior was clean. The hall, only slightly larger than Lily’s bedroom, held just three tables, and no other customers were in sight.

Harold had assured her they wouldn’t run into anyone else, but she’d still been worried—now that she saw the place empty, she felt relieved.

“May I choose the menu as I please?”

“Yes.”

Since she had no idea what was good and knew she wouldn’t eat much no matter what was served, Lily left everything up to Harold. Without even glancing at the menu, Harold confidently placed their order.

“You must come here often.”

“I used to, but this is my first time here recently. I wasn’t in the capital for a while.”

“Then where were you?”

“I traveled all over. Too many places to even list them all.”

She’d heard people from the Oppenheimer family had insatiable curiosity and traveled across the entire continent for research—could this man be the same?

As they chatted lightly, fresh salad, bread, and drinks with floating ice cubes arrived. After checking Harold’s salad first, Lily frowned when she spotted cucumbers hidden among the crisp-looking vegetables.

Even here, they put cucumbers in the salad… Wait, there aren’t any in mine?

Worried they might be hiding underneath, Lily stirred her bowl with her fork—but found not a single cucumber in her salad.

‘They left them out just for me.’

There was no way the chef, whom she’d never met, would know her preferences—Harold must have mentioned it beforehand. That meant Harold remembered she disliked cucumbers.
