I’d liked the view the moment I stepped out of the carriage, but I liked it even more now. I never imagined such a beautiful place existed so close to the capital. It pleased me so much—and made me regret not knowing about it sooner—that I wandered by the lakeside for quite a while.

Then, sensing a sharp gaze upon me, I turned my head. It was Harold.

He still stood rooted to the same spot, as if nails had been driven into his feet. Only then did Lily realize she’d left Harold behind, and she approached him with an embarrassed look.

“I’m sorry. The lake was so beautiful that I became completely absorbed without even noticing.”

“That’s all right. On the contrary, I’m glad it pleased you, my lady.”

“I truly love it. It’s exactly the place I imagined.”

“A place where you can cast off all your worries, relax freely without watching others’ moods, and feel your stifled heart finally open wide.”

Though she’d said it herself, hearing those words again from Harold’s lips made Lily blush slightly from embarrassment.

Harold tilted his chin toward a tree behind him.

“The view of the lake from atop that tree is quite beautiful too—what a pity you can’t see it.”

“Why can’t I see it?”

“Because you can’t climb a tree wearing a dress.”

“Oh.”

Lily let out a brief sigh and looked down at her outfit. Indeed, scaling a tree in such a flowing dress seemed impossible. More importantly, Lily didn’t even know how to climb trees.

Although she knew she should simply give up, disappointment lingered, and she kept staring at the tree Harold had pointed to. Its trunk was so thick that several grown men couldn’t encircle it together, and its branches were thick and sturdy enough to easily support both Lily and Harold if they sat on them.
