Touched by his gentle and thoughtful concern, Lily gave a faint smile and shook her head.
“It’s not that I don’t want to. I’m just worried Frederick might not be here. If he isn’t, I’ll be committing a grave discourtesy to the Marchioness.”

How could he be so sure? Stepping down from the carriage while holding Harold’s hand, Lily looked at him curiously. Harold simply grinned and gestured toward the mansion with his eyes.
Following his gaze, she saw someone standing beneath the hazy moonlight. At first, the darkness obscured their face, but as the figure drew closer, Lily’s eyes widened in recognition.
“…Robert.”
His presence here surely meant Frederick was here too.
Her worry settled, replaced by a surge of anger, hatred, and irritation. Lily glared fiercely at Robert as he slowly approached.
Finally reaching the carriage where Lily and Harold stood, Robert placed a hand over his chest, bowed his head, and spoke.
“The master is waiting for you, Viscountess.”
