The day after the long-awaited event.

Lily steeled herself before entering Earl Stacy’s Mansion. No matter what questions were thrown at her, or even if the unthinkable happened—Frederick being seen with Earl Stacy—she resolved not to show the slightest surprise.

She had repeated this resolve so many times it felt like self-hypnosis, yet ironically, nothing at all occurred. To make matters more absurd, Earl Stacy himself was said to be away due to urgent business.

“Here. My master asked me to give this to you, madam.”

The butler, standing in for Earl Stacy to receive Lily, handed her a bag. Inside were the documents she was to translate anew and a small money pouch. Seeing the weighty pouch eased her previously flustered mood.

Though being stood up was somewhat unpleasant… it was actually for the best, since meeting Earl Stacy himself would have been rather awkward anyway.

Having settled this uncomfortable feeling in another sense, Lily glanced toward the staircase leading to the second floor. Though she’d received the bag filled with money and new work, her business here wasn’t quite finished yet.

“Since I’m already here, I’d like to see Kennedy… Is that alright?”

She had a task from Dillon to fulfill. Since they’d agreed to grant each other’s requests, it was more accurate to call it a deal.

“Please ask Miss Kennedy Stacy about her former fiancé.”

That was what Dillon had requested—and demanded—of her the previous evening.

“Why they broke off their engagement, whose influence played the strongest role, whether the other side agreed willingly… I’d like you to find out everything in general.”

“May I ask why you want to know that?”

When Lily asked curiously, Dillon grinned and replied with a question of his own.

“If I tell you, then you’ll also have to explain why Earl Stacy is hiding the fact that he knows—from the Director. Would that be alright?”
