In the taxi heading toward the hospital, Ra In sobbed as if coughing up blood. She cried so bitterly that the taxi driver couldn’t even ask why she was crying.

I shouldn’t have answered the phone like usual…

I should’ve been kinder and more affectionate to him…

I shouldn’t have met him in the first place…

Ra In’s mind was filled entirely with regret.

The taxi arrived in front of the hospital. Ra In emptied all the money from her pocket and got out of the taxi without even waiting for her change. She couldn’t walk quickly or run.

She couldn’t even decide whether to go to the funeral hall or the hospital room. Ra In collapsed onto the ground somewhere between the funeral hall and the hospital and started crying.

“Haa… Hic… Huh-huh…”

She cried so desperately that she eventually fell flat onto the floor, wailing as though her insides might tear apart.

“What are you doing here?”

At that moment, a voice that sounded like a hallucination reached Ra In’s ears. Sniffling, she lifted her head. There stood Song Kang before her, dressed in hospital scrubs with a cardigan draped over his shoulders.

Song Kang knelt down in front of Ra In and looked straight at her.

“I figured you wouldn’t even answer your phone if I died. What are you doing here?”

Ra In gently stroked his face with her thin, pale hand, wanting to confirm whether he was really alive.

A large bandage covered the left side of his handsome forehead, bruises were forming along his jaw, and his wrist was wrapped in bandages. Even his seated posture looked uncomfortable.
