Joo Hyuk headed straight to Ra In’s house as soon as he got off work. Her phone number had apparently changed at some point, and with no way to reach her, he’d been so worried all day that he couldn’t even remember how he’d gotten through it.

He rang the doorbell at her place. He knew the password, but he didn’t think it would be proper to enter without permission when the homeowner was there.

After pressing the doorbell about three times, there was still no sign of movement inside. Alarmed, Joo Hyuk quickly punched in the password.

When he yanked the door open, Ra In stood right there—completely drained. Her face was pale, her eyes bloodshot, and she looked as if she’d collapse with the slightest push. The only thing keeping her upright was sheer resentment.

“Jin Ra In! Why didn’t you answer? Nothing happened, did it?”

She’d just been about to open the door herself, but in the end, she got scolded by Joo Hyuk anyway. She’d been through so much injustice that this small reprimand felt easy to let slide.

He grabbed her narrow shoulders with both hands and carefully checked her over for any injuries. She didn’t have any obvious wounds, but her already thin frame looked even more gaunt, and it pained him deeply.

Her body offered no resistance as his hands moved her—it was utterly limp. She desperately wanted to just let go and collapse right there, but too many unresolved matters still weighed on her, leaving her no choice but to hold on.

Joo Hyuk’s brow furrowed sharply at the strong smell of alcohol filling the apartment.

“Have you been drinking all day?”

He only needed to glance toward the living room to see beer cans scattered across the floor—no answer necessary.

“No matter how much I drink, I can’t get drunk. I just want to pass out deeply in my sleep… Haa…”

Ra In slipped out of his grasp and shuffled over to the sofa, collapsing onto it. Joo Hyuk followed her in and began clearing the empty cans off the table.

“Just leave them…”

She sighed, drawing her knees up to her chest and curling into herself. Her eyes were locked in relentless contemplation, gnawing obsessively at her thoughts.

Joo Hyuk watched her for a moment before letting out a deep sigh himself and turning away. If even watching her from the side felt this hollow, how must she be feeling? He couldn’t bring himself to offer any words of comfort.

“Just rest for now. It’s okay to do that for a while. You’re hurt right now.”

It was both advice and a gentle warning to Ra In, who always struggled desperately not to show weakness—even to herself. He felt sorry for her, suspecting this defensiveness stemmed from how well she knew her own fragility.

Joo Hyuk plopped down beside her and cracked open an untouched beer, gulping it down. It must have been sitting out for a while—the liquid was utterly tepid.

As Ra In weakly reached out like an empty shell to grab another can, Joo Hyuk caught her hand.

“Enough. Right now, it’s not you drinking alcohol—it’s alcohol drinking you.”

Ra In already knew that. Despite drinking nonstop, she felt nothing—just as if she’d been drinking water.

The suffocating tightness in her chest, which had started the day she’d received the surveillance documents in the Chief Prosecutor’s office, had now dulled into numbness.

“Just cry already! At this rate, how are you going to live through this? Haa… What can I do? Tell me what I should do!”

Frustrated, Joo Hyuk snapped at her as if trying to shake her out of it.

“I’m thinking right now.”

The situation fit together as if the answer had already been decided. Ra In loathed herself for being utterly helpless against power. No matter how fiercely she bit her lower lip or blamed herself, it was useless—and that only made her angrier.

Joo Hyuk knew better than anyone that Ra In had been unjustly dismissed. He also knew she’d stop at nothing to get back into the prosecution, which filled him with endless worry.

She was clearly capable of living well even without being a prosecutor, but now that she’d been ousted like this, there was no way she’d ever give up…

Of course, even big law firms were influenced by Chief Prosecutors and senior prosecutors.

Still, time heals all wounds—if the issue quieted down, high-paying offers might eventually come flooding in. Even if not, she could always open her own law firm once enough time had passed.

But Joo Hyuk couldn’t bring himself to suggest she become a lawyer. He knew exactly how deeply she cherished her identity as a prosecutor—not a judge, not a lawyer, but a prosecutor.

“I need to get reinstated.”

Exactly the answer he’d expected.

“If that’s what you want, then we’ll make it happen.”

Joo Hyuk calmly considered the steps Ra In would have to take.

Suing the prosecution—a massive, powerful organization—for wrongful termination would be anything but easy. More importantly, he had no idea how deeply she might be wounded in the process.

“I could represent you…”

“I’ll handle it myself. Please don’t feel responsible or burdened by my problems.”

It would be utterly absurd for Joo Hyuk, a sitting prosecutor, to represent her. Knowing Ra In was more than capable of handling the reinstatement lawsuit on her own, he quickly started searching for another solution.

“I’ll look around for a trustworthy lawyer you can rely on.”

After a moment of thought, Ha In came to mind. Ha In had expressed a strong desire to meet Ra In, and since he was a lawyer, he might have helpful insights to offer.

“Ra In, you know Cha Hae In, right?”

“You mean Director Na Song Gang’s counsel? Why suddenly bring up a Taesung in-house attorney?”

“I told you—he’s our junior. We were close.”

Ra In looked up at Joo Hyuk, waiting to hear what he’d say next before deciding whether to respond.

“Ha In really wants to meet you. He said he has something important to discuss. Maybe you should hear what he has to say, and if you end up needing legal counsel for the lawsuit, it wouldn’t hurt to get introduced.”

“I’ll represent myself.”

She meant it—she truly intended to defend herself.

Joo Hyuk didn’t think she was just saying that to be polite.

“Ra In, don’t be like that. Just meet him once. Even if Ha In works for Taesung and can’t represent you directly…”

“No.”

Ra In cut him off before he could finish.

Joo Hyuk hadn’t entirely expected that—but then again, her answers were always this decisively precise.

“I’m not asking you to beg for favors. It seems Ha In has something he needs to say to you.”

“You do realize I’ve been dismissed, right? If it’s about the case, tell him to go ask Prosecutor Yoon Nan Seul. She’ll probably listen.”

“If that’s what he wanted, he’d have asked me.”

Ra In said nothing, only taking another swig of beer.

Joo Hyuk simply watched her carefully. Her mood was clearly as sour as it could get—today probably wasn’t the day to push any further.

***

Song Kang investigated what had happened to Ra In through channels other than Attorney Cha Hae In. As he’d suspected, it was connected to his own case. Sitting perched on his desk, he stared out the window, weighed down by complicated emotions.

Just then, a knock sounded, and his secretary entered.

“Director, Attorney Cha Hae In is here.”

“Please show him in.”

Ha In approached him with a heavy expression and cautious demeanor. Song Kang turned to face him.

Ha In knew Song Kang had been anxiously awaiting his report, which made him dread delivering his lackluster findings.

“Director… um…”

Seeing the lack of conviction in Ha In’s voice, Song Kang already had a good idea of what the report would say.

“It’s alright. This just reminded me once again how insular the prosecution really is. But one thing became absolutely clear—Prosecutor Jin Ra In suffered because she gave her all to investigate my case.”

He also knew the Head of Legal Affairs had played a major role—and even Geum Mo Ran, firmly backing them from behind the scenes.

As Song Kang spoke these words aloud, the weight in his heart became unbearable. Every time he’d met Ra In, he’d sensed her immense pride in being a prosecutor.

Now, dishonored and driven out of her organization, he couldn’t stop worrying about how she was even managing to get by.

“I can’t reach her—either she got rid of her phone or changed her number. But if you happen to find out how she’s doing, please let me know right away.”

“Yes, Director. Actually… I already asked Senior Joo Hyuk for help, but it seems difficult to make contact.”

“When has Prosecutor Jin Ra In ever been easy to reach?”

He was deeply worried that such a proud person, after suffering such a humiliating ordeal, might rush headlong down a desperate path.

At that moment, a sharp, short vibration from his phone rattled the desk. Song Kang picked it up to check the message.

For someone who rarely reacted to messages, the fact that he checked this one immediately meant it held real significance.

It was the contact information for Prosecutor Jin Ra In he’d been waiting for. Song Kang instantly forwarded it to Ha In.

“This is Prosecutor Jin Ra In’s number. She changed it right after being dismissed.”

Ha In immediately checked his phone.

“We need to reach her first, of course—but please arrange a meeting as well.”

“Yes…”

Ha In replied to Song Kang’s instruction, though he honestly had no confidence in pulling it off. He couldn’t think of any way to persuade Prosecutor Jin Ra In to agree to meet.

“However, Director…”

Song Kang nodded, signaling him to continue.

“Do you still need Prosecutor Jin Ra In?”

Ha In needed to know before taking on this difficult task. He didn’t want to carry out orders he couldn’t personally justify.

“Shouldn’t it be you, Attorney Cha Hae In, who needs Prosecutor Jin Ra In the most?”

Ha In understood what Song Kang meant. Jin Ra In remained the person who understood this case best.

That’s why he intended to enlist her as an ally in the case—and in return, he planned to support her life in kind.

Of course, persuading her wouldn’t be easy, but it was only natural that someone thirsty would dig a well.

Ha In got into his car to make a call he couldn’t place from the office. Taking a deep breath, he dialed Ra In’s number, which he’d just received from Director Na Song Gang.

Had phone rings always felt this long…?

Each drawn-out “doo—” tone tugged at the back of his skull. He tensed at every “click,” thinking she’d finally picked up.

But contrary to his hopes, the call cut off, switching to a message saying the number couldn’t be reached.

Calling repeatedly until she answered would be reckless. Leaving too many missed calls might only provoke resentment.

Exactly five times.

If it still didn’t work, there was nothing more to be done.

True to expectation, Ra In didn’t answer. He decided to leave a text message and call it quits. He composed it more carefully than any legal document he’d ever submitted to the prosecution.

“This senior really is something else—just as extraordinary now as back then…”

At that moment, Ha In’s phone rang. Recognizing instantly that the incoming call was from Ra In’s number, he jolted in surprise.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
