“Director, there’s… something on your neck.”

Ha In looked at the scratch visible above Song Kang’s shirt collar. Song Kang finally realized what that stinging sensation was.

“It looks like a fingernail mark?”

Ha In examined the wound on his neck from various angles as she spoke.

“Oh, I must’ve scratched it somewhere. It’s fine.”

“Right. It couldn’t possibly be a fingernail mark. After all, it would take an awful lot of nerve to leave a mark like this on you, Director.”

He nearly smiled at Ha In’s remark. Song Kang wondered whether that extraordinary person who’d left the scratch on him had even woken up yet.

“Oh, by the way, Director—the prosecution’s making one last desperate move. Nothing significantly new came out, though. You don’t need to worry too much.”

“They’re pushing claims that were never facts to begin with—what more could possibly come out?”

Song Kang picked up his coat from the hanger and stepped out of the office with Ha In. Attorney Cha Hae In headed toward Legal Affairs, while Song Kang went to see Ra In.

He was glad he’d called ahead before leaving. Given how much she’d drunk yesterday, he’d expected her to stay home nursing a hangover, but Ra In had already arrived at the office early.

“Are you feeling better now? You should’ve dressed more warmly—you were shivering so badly.”

His words carried a subtle barb. Ra In felt embarrassed and awkward. Seeing her blink rapidly, Song Kang couldn’t stop the corners of his mouth from lifting.

“If you’re feeling cold enough to risk hypothermia, you really should be more careful. And the amount of alcohol you drank yesterday—it was practically lethal.”

Song Kang slowly approached the desk where Ra In was seated. Though he wasn’t walking particularly fast, Ra In seemed inexplicably subdued, as if she’d done something wrong.
