My Line (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 3
“Honey, how’s this? Feel refreshed?”
Geum Mo Ran asked as she massaged Chairman Na’s shoulders.
“You must be tired—why not just ask someone else to do it? You’re not a strong person, after all.”
There was absolutely no way she’d allow that. It was precisely this touch that had captivated Chairman Na and brought her this far—she couldn’t possibly hand the task to anyone else.
“I live for the joy of giving you massages, so who else would I possibly entrust such a precious duty to~?”
Geum Mo Ran let out a soft hum, sweetly melting his ears.
Chairman Na gently patted the hands resting on his shoulders and told her to stop and sit down. Mo Ran placed a wooden chair beside the sofa where he sat and settled into it.
“Why don’t you sit comfortably on the sofa?”
“I wanted to sit closer to you, Chairman.”
At her words, the corners of Chairman Na’s mouth curled upward toward his ears.
“Oh, by the way—why haven’t I received any updates about Song Kang’s case?”
As he reached for his phone, Mo Ran placed her hand over his.
“Chairman, Song Kang is a smart kid, isn’t he? Besides, he’s been working hard to support the legal team, so please don’t worry.”
Chairman Na set his phone down and fell into silent contemplation. Seeing this, Geum Mo Ran’s eyes glinted slyly.
“What if you’d been personally implicated in this incident? What would’ve happened to Taesung? What about me?”
Despite her coquettish tone, his unease remained unavoidable.
It was an extremely perilous and deep pitfall—one that, had Song Kang not been involved, she herself would have had to step into.
She had spent years meticulously building a tower, all to push him—the stepson from the first wife, Chairman Na’s most cherished heir—into mortal danger. Of course, she hadn’t foreseen that this crisis might become an opportunity.
“I’ve also made special arrangements with the legal team. I’ll listen carefully and report everything to you. Trials are like that, after all—full of serious and complicated terms meant to intimidate, but experts often find them trivial.”
“But he’s not the type to make such a mistake. That’s precisely what’s so strange.”
Chairman Na’s expression grew deeply serious.
“He probably just tried too hard. Honey, please don’t stress yourself so much—it’s bad for your health.”
Behind her concerned expression, a serpent-like smile flickered across her face.
Without a shred of remorse for her own sins, she was elated at the thought that once Song Kang—the thorn in her eye, the first wife’s son—was out of the way, she could finally place her own young children into top executive roles.
Chairman Na, past seventy, had long since lost clear judgment under the pillow talk of his new wife, who was over ten years younger. It wasn’t merely her youth and beauty that had ensnared him.
It had taken her precisely twenty years to hide her greediness and win his heart completely. Chairman Na was still too capable to let her seize control of management outright, and the executives refused to acknowledge her authority.
So she started slowly, targeting not Taesung’s core businesses but the cultural and arts sector instead. If there had been even a sliver of artistic sensibility in her poverty-stricken past, it was precisely when she entered the Taesung family.
She’d never properly held a 4B pencil in her life, let alone had anything to do with art—but under the title of “Chairman’s wife,” she managed to consolidate much influence.
Fortunately for her, this was a field Chairman Na had little interest in, so he gradually began delegating responsibilities to her—until eventually, he even handed over the Taesung Art Museum, founded by Song Kang’s mother.
“Ever since this incident involving Song Kang, our Song Lim seems to feel the weight of responsibility. He’s working so hard, saying that without his older brother, he must step up and carry Taesung himself. Please give him more support.”
Chairman Na made no immediate response to Mo Ran’s words. Even combining both his children—Song Lim and Song Un—couldn’t match what Song Kang alone contributed. It wasn’t just their age difference that made them seem untrustworthy.
Compared to the capable growth of his eldest son, the gap was stark. Though he tried not to show it in front of his wife, when it came to business matters, he couldn’t simply compromise for the sake of peace.
“Honey, please guide and teach our Song Lim and Song Un well.”
To this, Chairman Na nodded in agreement.
Just then, his phone rang. It was the Head of Legal Affairs.
“Ah, how’s everything going?”
Chairman, I believe there’s no need for excessive worry. We’re handling things exactly as you instructed.
The Head of Legal Affairs was operating precisely as Geum Mo Ran had arranged behind the scenes. Chairman Na believed every word without a shred of suspicion and ended the call.
“See, honey? I told you not to worry. Do you really think Taesung’s legal team can’t protect one person—Song Kang?”
“Prosecutor, Na Song Gang has arrived.”
“Yes, yes. Let’s go.”
Upon hearing the notification from the prosecutor’s office staff, Ra In, who had been reviewing documents, kept her eyes on the files and replied that she’d be right there. Joo Hyuk slowly rose from his seat to get ready.
“Ra In…”
Seeing her deeply absorbed in something, Joo Hyuk held his breath for a moment, perched on the edge of her desk with his arms crossed, simply watching her.
During this time, even more evidence materials had arrived from Taesung’s legal department, piling up like a fortress—but he lost track of time just watching her, utterly unfazed and passionately immersed amid the towering stacks of evidence.
“Um… Prosecutor.”
The staff member peeked in again.
“Yes, I’m coming.”
Joo Hyuk answered in her stead and stepped closer to Ra In. She finally seemed to realize it was truly time to go and rose from her seat.
Ra In walked silently toward the interrogation room.

She stopped in front of the interrogation room door. Her hand on the doorknob, she glanced at her wristwatch—memories from a previous incident surfaced, making her hesitate slightly—but she pushed through and walked in coolly. Outside the monitoring room, Joo Hyuk watched the scene unfold with a tense expression.
Director Na Song Gang and Attorney Cha Hae In had arrived long ago and were already waiting. Just as Song Kang’s mood began to sour over the delayed schedule—
Ra In walked in, didn’t even glance at Song Kang or Hae In who were seated, and immediately opened her laptop. A prosecutor’s office staff member wheeled in a cart loaded with evidence materials, placed them down, and left.
“Hello.”
Hae In politely rose to greet her and sat back down.
“Yes.”
Ra In gave only a curt reply, indifferent to his polite greeting, and picked up the stack of evidence beside her. It wasn’t that she was ignoring Hae In—she simply had too much to do and couldn’t spare attention elsewhere.
At least the Head of Legal Affairs wasn’t present today, offering a faint glimmer of hope that this interrogation wouldn’t be another waste of time like before.
There was no guarantee he wouldn’t later deny the admissibility of the recorded statements in a shameless move—but still, she began the investigation with a sliver of hope that perhaps she might finally hear something useful.
Song Kang simply watched her in silence. She was a difficult counterpart—but necessary. Though he hoped such a thing wouldn’t happen… she might become someone he needed to protect, and that’s why he kept studying her.
Just then, Ra In raised her slender hand and swept back her falling bangs. On her finger, an old, worn thimble caught Song Kang’s eye.
She’d been so preoccupied that she’d walked in still wearing it—and her hand was a mess, covered with bandages over paper cuts and smudges of pencil graphite.
“Taesung sent over yet another massive batch of evidence.”
Ra In tossed out the dry, pointed remark. Song Kang felt an unexpected pang of guilt seeing her battered hands.
“Oh, the volume of evidence is enormous—must be exhausting for you. We’re providing it to actively cooperate with the investigation…”
At Hae In’s courteous and respectful words, Ra In gave a cold, hollow laugh and shifted her gaze back to her laptop.
“Name: Na Song Gang. That’s you, correct?”
She remained as aloof as ever. A brief silence fell over the room.
“Yes, that’s correct.”
As always, Ra In proceeded strictly by protocol.
“It seems you’ve frequently interacted with high-ranking officials in education and the arts. Bribery provided and corresponding favors received… are as follows.”
She flipped through the documents in front of her, scanned the list of favors, and pushed the file toward Song Kang.
“Do you acknowledge receiving these benefits?”
“We invoke the right to remain silent.”
Hae In answered on his behalf. And from then on, every question was met with silence.
Faced once again with this blanket use of the right to remain silent, Ra In began to feel conflicted. Without even a hint—a simple “It wasn’t me”—how could she conduct a proper investigation?
Ra In shifted her gaze from her laptop to Song Kang.
“The evidence submitted by Taesung doesn’t appear intended to defend the defendant.”
Taesung’s legal team’s stance left Hae In flustered and filled with regret toward Song Kang.
“I have no interest in Taesung’s internal affairs.”
Seeing how accurately she grasped the core of the situation, Song Kang felt unexpectedly relieved. His intuition had been right after all.
Prosecutor Jin Ra In was clearly capable of uncovering the truth of this case—and genuinely committed to the investigation.
“If even you give up because your own lawyer refuses to defend you, no one can save you.”
Though Ra In was physically smaller than Song Kang and sat at a lower eye level, she somehow gave the impression of looking down at him from above. It was the first time anyone had regarded Song Kang with such a gaze.
“I’ll ask again. Reviewing your meeting with the former Minister of Culture, you’ve apparently known Na Song Gang since high school—a significant age gap between you. Yet the defendant seems largely unconnected to the cultural and arts sector. How did you become acquainted?”
“R-right to remain silent.”
Since Hae In, like the Head of Legal Affairs, continued to invoke silence, Ra In slumped her shoulders and sighed. But she couldn’t give up—not yet. Summoning her last ounce of strength, she lifted her eyes firmly.
“If you continue refusing to present any defense, I’ll exercise every investigative authority at my disposal to prove this offense—and seek the maximum penalty permitted by law.”
Though her words pressed him, her heart longed for something else. She couldn’t be the one to say aloud that someone else was truly guilty—she desperately waited for him to claim his own innocence.
“Just say it once—‘I’m innocent.’ I’ll redirect the entire investigation and give it my all.”
“I’m giving you one last chance. May I proceed with the investigation based exactly on the evidence submitted by Taesung?”
In the locked gaze between Ra In and Song Kang, a message deeper than words passed between them. Both knew—the real culprit was someone else…
A surge of heat rose deep in Song Kang’s chest. Her words about this being his “last chance,” her demeanor, and all the tangled circumstances—his father, Taesung Group, everything weighing on him—pressed heavily on his heart.
“Attorney Cha Hae In, could you please step out for a moment? And could we temporarily disable the recording function?”
Song Kang broke his silence. He’d already made perfect clarity in his mind—what to hold onto, what to let go of, and what must be protected.
Ra In arranged the environment as he requested. She was somewhat hopeful—though legally non-binding, perhaps he’d offer a clue.
“Prosecutor Jin Ra In, let me ask you something instead.”
Ra In listened intently, her expression now taut with tension.
“No matter where Prosecutor Jin Ra In’s investigation leads—won’t justice still be served?”
His words, pricking her conscience as a prosecutor, made her pupils waver—because ‘justice,’ that unchanging truth, was precisely what drove her forward.

Instead of demanding an answer, Song Kang pressed her with his gaze alone. Ra In, caught off guard, struggled to form words.
“You already know I’m not the real culprit, don’t you, Prosecutor Jin Ra In?”
Ra In did know he wasn’t the true offender—but as a prosecutor, she couldn’t offer a proper reply.
“For me, clearing my name in this investigation is important—but I worry more about Prosecutor Jin Ra In putting yourself in danger.”
Song Kang spoke honestly from his heart. Yet contrary to his concern, she let out a faint, almost defiant laugh.
“Who? Who dares threaten a prosecutor of the Republic of Korea?”
Ra In’s pride as a prosecutor was immense—and rightly so. Since donning her robes, she’d never once bowed to any power. To her, the mere suggestion of danger sounded not like a threat, but an insult.
Song Kang saw it too. Her attitude—bold yet dignified, standing right on the edge—suggested that no amount of explanation or persuasion would change her mind.
“Will you pursue this case to the very end?”
Song Kang returned to the main point.
“If not, then why would I waste this precious time here with you and your defense team?”
Though he found her relentless refusal to concede deeply irritating, he admired that same tenacity in this case. The problem was, she paid no heed—even to warnings that she herself might be in danger.
“Prosecutor Jin Ra In, I hate the thought of innocent people getting hurt because of me.”
Ra In crossed her arms, thought for a moment, then looked directly at him.
“So who exactly is threatening me?”
“Most likely the real culprit.”
“Then I’ll just catch whoever’s trying to attack me. Problem solved, right?”
He couldn’t tell if she was dismissing his words or simply fearless beyond reason.
“If you ever need help, just say the word.”
Song Kang’s genuine concern pricked Ra In’s pride. Her expression hardened as she closed her laptop.
“My only way of assisting the prosecutor is through full cooperation in the investigation. Though your statement just now—that you’re not the real culprit—wasn’t recorded, I’ll take it into account during the investigation. We’ll conclude today’s session here. You’re free to leave.”
As expected, she wasn’t an easy opponent. With no desire for money, honor, or power, there was nothing he could use to gain leverage over her.
Did she truly believe her prosecutor’s robe was armor? Or that living only for justice today was enough?
To Song Kang, Ra In’s fearless passion seemed almost childishly pure. He let out a long, deep sigh he’d been holding in all along.
