“Name: Na Song Gang. That’s you, correct?”

Jin Ra In prosecutor’s question bewildered not only the defendant seated in the interrogation recording room but also the defense attorneys.

The Head of Legal Affairs wore an expression as though he’d just bitten into a bug. Even Attorney Cha Hae In, usually smiling, had lost all trace of amusement in her eyes.

“Prosecutor Jin Ra In, surely you’re not asking that because you don’t recognize Director Na Song Gang of the Taesung Group?”

The Head of Legal Affairs asked, his voice heavy with displeasure.

In a country jokingly called the “Taesung Republic,” it was impossible not to know someone named “Na Song Gang.”

Even a random three-year-old child off the street would recognize the name.

That’s precisely why today’s interrogation had become such a big deal.

Even prosecutors who rarely paid attention to other cases had come from afar, peeking around curiously just to catch a glimpse of Director Na Song Gang in person.

On his way here, Song Kang had been overwhelmed—first by the flood of news articles, then by the unsettling attitude of this prosecutor he’d just met. His mind was thoroughly tangled.

He’d never dreamed that right now, at this very moment, he’d be appearing at the prosecutor’s office under suspicion of bribery.

If this were just a dream, it might have felt more realistic.

The trouble had started with a signature reading “Na Song—” discovered during the investigation into Taesung’s alleged bribery, accompanied by testimony identifying it as belonging to Director Na Song Gang, the nerve center of the Taesung Group.

Soon after, the witness vanished without a trace—no word, no sign.

Taesung Group’s legal department gathered some of the nation’s most prominent legal minds.

Song Kang had held multiple strategic meetings with them, and the Head of Legal Affairs repeatedly assured him there was nothing to worry about.

They’d also prepared a staggering volume of evidence for rebuttal.

Yet despite this seemingly flawless defense, something still felt deeply unsettled in his gut.

Above all, he simply couldn’t trust them.

Strangely, even news reports about this case had shifted direction—unlike their usual commentary on him.

He had a hunch about whose scheme this might be, but without concrete proof, he couldn’t immediately expose it.

After all, it was just a feeling.

Song Kang gathered his tangled thoughts and looked at her with cold eyes.

At first glance, she appeared frail—pale-faced, with soft, round eyes—showing no sign of backbone whatsoever.

But the sharpness in her sideways glance told a different story.

It prickled him like a thorn lodged in his throat.

“I’m simply following procedure.”

It wasn’t that she didn’t know who Na Song Gang, eldest son of the Taesung Group, was.

Ra In was merely carrying out the process.

It was precisely this ordinary procedure—applied to Song Kang—that made them uncomfortable…

She was famously uncompromising at the Central District Prosecutors’ Office.

She’d never obey instructions from a Chief Prosecutor or advice from senior colleagues if they conflicted with justice.

The Chief Prosecutor himself was well aware of Prosecutor Jin Ra In’s reputation, having observed her closely for years.

That was exactly why he’d assigned her to lead this case involving the Taesung Group.

It wasn’t that no other prosecutor wanted the case.

Her peer and rival, Prosecutor Yoon Nan Seul, had even tried to use her father—the President of the Constitutional Court—to pressure the Chief Prosecutor into giving her the case. But once she learned the Chief’s decision was final, she had no choice but to step back.

Only Prosecutor Choi Ju Hyuk had volunteered to assist Prosecutor Jin Ra In, and the two were now fully committed to the investigation.

The Head of Legal Affairs had long known of the Chief Prosecutor’s flexibility in such matters and had worried about it—but hearing that a young, junior prosecutor had been assigned, he grew greatly overconfident.

He even interpreted it as a lack of prosecutorial will.

But his expectations were utterly mistaken.

Only upon entering the summons interrogation and facing Prosecutor Jin Ra In did he belatedly realize how difficult this would be.

His pride as a former Central District prosecutor had already taken a severe blow.

If the problem ended there, it would be fortunate—but there was a real risk that digging deeper into the case might expose a far worse truth.

The Head of Legal Affairs snapped back to full alertness.

‘What can this rookie possibly do?’ he scoffed inwardly, once again wearing an arrogant expression.

For now, he had to put on a show of reassurance—anything to prevent Director Na Song Gang beside him from losing trust completely.

“Prosecutor Jin, you’re a graduate of Korea University Law School, correct?”

The Head of Legal Affairs tilted his head slightly as he asked Ra In.

She remained unmoved, keeping her eyes fixed on her laptop screen.

“Who here isn’t a Korea University Law graduate?”

Ra In tossed off the remark casually. She wasn’t wrong.

Every legal professional seated in this interrogation room was a Korea University Law graduate.

That’s also why Attorney Cha Hae In recognized her.

She’d been known by two extreme nicknames back in law school: “Goddess of Law” and “Law School Psycho.”

But Cha Hae In had never actually interacted with her—only observed her from afar as a senior.

Because she’d only known her through old rumors, she hadn’t thought to warn her superiors explicitly—now she regretted not at least hinting that her opponent wouldn’t be easy to handle.

“Hey, Prosecutor Jin—do you really not know who I am? Didn’t the Chief Prosecutor tell you?”

Finally, the Head of Legal Affairs brazenly invoked his past official status.

“Are you speaking to me informally just now?”

Ra In’s eyes shot up in surprise. The unexpected reaction left the Head of Legal Affairs utterly dumbfounded.

Song Kang nearly laughed out loud. Ha In, meanwhile, was barely catching his breath in this prickly situation.

“Let’s move this along quickly. I have other appointments.”

At Song Kang’s words, the Head of Legal Affairs took a step back.

“You’ll probably need to cancel those appointments…”

Ra In’s subtle warning brushed past Song Kang’s ears, and he twitched one eyebrow.

He was starting to get curious—why was she so intensely invested in this case?

For an ordinary prosecutor, especially a junior one, to summon Na Song Gang—the eldest son of Taesung—was no small matter.

Had it not been Prosecutor Jin Ra In, no one else would have dared.

Yet there was a reason she’d brought him in.

For one, the evidence submitted by Taesung Legal filled no less than 100,000 sheets of A4 paper.

Flipping through all that had worn not just his fingertips but his entire thumb raw.

Yet despite the volume, every piece of evidence felt like wordplay—empty sophistry.

More critically, the whole case felt off.

The evidence pretended to defend the defendant while subtly implying that Director Na Song Gang was the real culprit—

as if the defense’s goal wasn’t “acquittal” but rather pushing for a “guilty verdict.”

Prosecutor Jin Ra In had her doubts.

Was he scheming something? Or was he genuinely being set up without knowing?

Ra In’s sharp gaze lingered on him for a moment. His well-formed face radiated dignity.

His aloof, cynical expression, sturdy build, and firm eyes matched exactly what she’d seen in the media.

And yet, oddly enough, he didn’t feel unfamiliar to her.

Perhaps because she’d spent so long reviewing documents related to him—it almost felt as if they’d known each other for years.

Despite having gone through mountains of material, she hadn’t resolved a single doubt since the investigation began.

No choice—she’d have to start asking questions, one by one…

So she returned to the beginning and asked for his name again.

Helplessly, the Head of Legal Affairs answered on Song Kang’s behalf.

“Let him answer himself.”

At Prosecutor Jin Ra In’s words, the Head of Legal Affairs flinched again.

To avoid unnecessary argument, Song Kang raised a hand to stop him and replied himself.

“Yes, that’s correct.”

The interrogation proceeded amid a fierce battle of wills.

Yet compared to the tension in the room, Taesung Legal’s responses felt utterly half-hearted.

From the outset, they followed their plan and invoked the right to remain silent for every question.

This attitude only provoked Ra In’s stubbornness. After over six hours of investigation, exhaustion was clearly etched on the Head of Legal Affairs’ face.

“Haven’t we done enough? Let’s wrap this up.”

Frustrated after exhausting his right to silence, the Head of Legal Affairs finally complained.

But she had no intention of stopping here.

“Why should the defense decide that?”

Ignoring him completely, Ra In kept flipping through documents, her spine unbending. The Head of Legal Affairs was on the verge of boiling over.

“Mr. Na Song Gang, your patience is truly remarkable. Aren’t you frustrated?”

Her offhand remark—spoken as if she knew everything—was a pointed jab.

Ra In desperately wanted to hear something directly from him.

The deeper she looked into the case, the more he genuinely seemed like a victim.

But he, who never acted without strategy, stayed silent.

Rather than answering rashly, he was carefully comparing her questions against what he’d been briefed by Legal.

“There’s a principle called the presumption of innocence.”

As Ra In continued speaking, the Head of Legal Affairs snorted dismissively.

Song Kang listened intently, wondering what she’d say next.

There was an unconscious magnetism in her words—

her uncalculated, cool tone and eyes sparkling with resolve steadily drew his trust.

He cautiously allowed himself to hope that Prosecutor Jin Ra In’s investigative skill might play a crucial role in uncovering the full truth of this case.

She tossed the documents in her hand onto the desk.

Song Kang felt a slight flush at her boldness—but for now, it was discomfort he’d have to endure.

“Yet all the evidence Taesung submitted points directly to Director Na Song Gang. And even after giving him this long to clarify, he hasn’t offered a single defense.”

At Prosecutor Jin Ra In’s words, the Head of Legal Affairs’ expression began to harden.

“I’ll ask the defense counsel.”

She stared straight at the Head of Legal Affairs.

“Why aren’t you defending your client?”

Her question struck Song Kang right in the chest.

His otherwise unshakable expression trembled oddly.

The Head of Legal Affairs, deeply flustered, glanced nervously at Song Kang.

“Prosecutor Jin, why speak like that? Our director might misunderstand.”

It was infuriating—instead of offering any explanation, he blamed the question itself.

“Misunderstand? Your client is sitting here wasting time without even being sure whether he committed a crime—what’s there to misunderstand?”

Amid the exchange between Ra In and the Head of Legal Affairs, Song Kang steeled his expression.

He suddenly wondered if Ra In might be the one to pull him out of this quagmire.

As he listened to her, the puzzling pieces of this strange situation began clicking into place.

It hit him like a slap to the back of the head—the employees who once bowed deeply before him, the people who acted like his limbs—all had turned their backs on him.

He’d suspected his stepmother, Geum Mo Ran, was behind this—but never imagined she’d meticulously won over even his own people.

She must have either persuaded his father, Taesung’s chairman, to support or neutralize them—or perhaps, regardless of his father’s wishes, wielded power ruthlessly on her own…

He almost wanted to believe it was the latter.

If so, then among everyone in this room, the only one truly interested in uncovering the truth of this case…

wasn’t his own legal team—but the prosecutor seated across from him. The realization deepened his confusion.

Ra In calmly studied his silent face.

Not a flicker of emotion—no subtle twitch in his facial muscles—gave any clue to his thoughts.

Just then, a knock sounded, and Prosecutor Choi Ju Hyuk, who’d been monitoring outside, opened the door and entered.

He rarely interrupted Ra In’s interrogations, so his appearance mid-session suggested something serious.

True to Song Kang’s suspicion, Ju Hyuk’s face showed clear unease.

“Jin, the Chief Prosecutor is here.”

At Ju Hyuk’s words, both Ra In and the Head of Legal Affairs showed mixed reactions—relief and anxiety flickering across their faces.

The Chief Prosecutor slithered into the room like a snake over a wall. Only then did Ra In rise to greet him.

Watching her, Song Kang inwardly remarked, ‘So she does know how to greet people.’

From the moment she entered for interrogation, she’d ignored greetings and business cards from both the Head of Legal Affairs and Attorney Cha Hae In, diving straight into procedure.

Her actions since then had seemed distant from courtesy—

though she wasn’t overly deferential even to the Chief Prosecutor, she clearly wasn’t the rude, disrespectful type who didn’t know how to greet superiors.

“Oh! Who do we have here! Director Na Song Gang of Taesung, in such a humble place!”

The Chief Prosecutor’s groveling embarrassed Ra In on his behalf.

He bowed so deeply it seemed his body might fold in half as he extended his hand to Song Kang.

Song Kang wasn’t enthusiastic—but since an elder was offering a greeting, he stood, shook hands briefly with dry formality, and sat back down.

“Jin, are you treating the director well?”

Ra In doubted her ears—was the Chief Prosecutor really saying this with a straight mind?

Her jaw clenched so tightly that no words escaped her sealed lips.

“Oh, senior! It’s been so long—thank you for your hard work. Jin, is it alright if I go have a cup of tea with our senior?”

Since the answer was already decided, Ra In didn’t bother replying.

Instead, Ju Hyuk tactfully responded and ushered the Head of Legal Affairs out. Once he left, silence filled the room.

Everyone present knew there was no need to continue the interrogation without the Head of Legal Affairs—even with Attorney Cha Hae In present.

As time passed with no sign of the Head returning, Ra In’s temper began to simmer.

Song Kang, however, found his absence helpful—

it gave him space to untangle his chaotic thoughts.

Though far from easy, if Prosecutor Jin Ra In kept pushing forward with this determination, a breakthrough would appear—and the real culprit would be caught.

If that happened, he might finally uproot Geum Mo Ran, the malignant force entrenched deep within Taesung.

Geum Mo Ran—what exactly was she hiding that she’d go this far?

She’d undoubtedly stop at nothing to bury this case.

But then… what about this prosecutor?

At that thought, Song Kang urgently looked up at Ra In.

‘She’ll be in danger.’

Ra In was adjusting her wristwatch.

Seeing no reason to wait longer, she closed her laptop and stood.

“We’ll stop here for today.”

As she moved to leave, Song Kang instinctively rose and grabbed her wrist—

“grabbed” being the more accurate term.

He locked eyes with her, his expression full of things left unsaid.

His suppressed anxiety spilled plainly onto his face, startling even himself.

It was a rare mistake for him.

Startled by the sudden closeness, Ra In slapped her palm against his cheek.

Her prosecutor’s badge, hanging around her neck, flipped backward from the motion, hiding her name.

Both the slapper and the slapped—and the person standing beside them…

even those monitoring outside the interrogation room—were left speechless with shock.

It all happened in an instant.

Song Kang stared blankly at her wristwatch.

He’d grabbed her, but didn’t know where to begin.

Without solid logic, rushing in might backfire—so he held back.

Ra In winced as he gripped her wrist too tightly.

She tensed her body, trying to pull her wrist free.

Only then did Song Kang realize his mistake and loosen his grip.

Ra In pushed him away, blinking rapidly in flustered surprise.

“Prosecutor Jin Ra In.”

Song Kang called her in a low, heavy voice.

But Ra In was too busy calming her racing heart to respond.

“If you’re curious about the time, just turn on your—your phone and check. I’ve waited long enough. That’s all.”

Her voice trembled slightly with agitation.

Certain she’d completely misunderstood him, Song Kang grew equally flustered.

“No, that’s not it—”

He tried to explain, but she was already walking out, refusing to hear another word.

Ra In left the interrogation room and firmly shut the door behind her.

Until now, he’d sat like a statue, answering nothing—then suddenly lunged at her; of course she’d be startled.

And why was the grip on her wrist so strong?

The gesture alone was jarring enough—but even more overwhelming was the intensity in his eyes, which nearly crushed her composure. Fearing she’d lose her rationality, she’d hurriedly fled.

But now, belatedly embarrassed by how shaken she’d appeared, she clenched her fists, resisting the urge to kick something in frustration.

Those left inside the interrogation room were just as stunned.

“Director, are you alright?”

Ha In checked Song Kang’s expression carefully.

“I’m fine.”

How threatening could such a small hand possibly be?

Song Kang had only wanted to hold onto her—because he felt he absolutely had to speak…

He needed her investigative skill to clear his name.

But did she realize how dangerous it would become the deeper she dug? Should he warn her?

Whichever it was—if this case ended with him surviving but Prosecutor Jin Ra In in danger, he’d never forgive himself.

“Attorney Cha, look into Prosecutor Jin Ra In—discreetly, without the Head of Legal Affairs knowing.”

The investigation’s intensity was high, and their first meeting had been explosive.

When male lead is the homewrecker

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.

Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.

The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.

I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.

There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.

For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.

I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

Here’s the story synopsis:

One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.

Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead

Intro 1:

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

With blood trickling from his clenched fist, Rong Xiu gazed at the woman before him, his eyes clouded with anguish. Hidden in the wardrobe, he had witnessed Fan Xia – the woman he desperately loved – in an intimate embrace with her fiancé. Yet his heart still yearned for her, defying all reason.

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.

Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…

Intro 2:

Rong Xiu’s biggest regret in life was missing out on Fan Xia.

He secretly loved Fan Xia for 7 years.

Watched her go public with her boyfriend.

Watched her kiss her boyfriend at their wedding.

Until that man blissfully nestled in Fan Xia’s arms, obtaining everything he could only dream of.

The crazy jealousy stripped away his hidden secret love, layer by layer, burning like wildfire.

Fan Xia, how can I have you!
