“No, until a while ago, it was painful, but now it’s somewhat comforting. I’ve always been seen as someone who doesn’t hesitate to use any means and methods to survive alone, and that image could be a stain on Taesung. But hearing Prosecutor Jina Line’s words makes me feel better. It’s okay.”
He hoped that the words of comfort were sincere, as he didn’t want her to be just making empty statements. He sincerely hoped that she was genuinely okay.
When Line picked up a beer, Songkang also handed her his beer can. Line tapped her can against his.
“You asked some difficult questions today, and I appreciate your effort in answering them.”
Line felt a sense of responsibility for the emotions he was experiencing.
“It’s quite late now. Don’t you have to prepare for a meeting with Attorney Chae Hae-in tomorrow?”
“Chae Hae-in… Do I really have to meet Attorney Chae Hae-in?”
“She’s the person I trust right now. I understand that Prosecutor Jina Line may not be friendly toward Taesung, but there aren’t many options right now, are there?”
Line wore an uncomfortable expression. Songkang felt that there wasn’t enough time to resolve the discomfort she was currently feeling.
“Call for a chauffeur and let’s go home. I’ll drop you off.”

“A chauffeur? You have a driver, don’t you?”
“Even the driver should rest at this hour.”
Seeing that, he wondered if Na Songkang’s infamous reputation was solely due to perfectionism, or if he was a truly admirable person. There was so much to learn from him.
After about 30 minutes, the chauffeur arrived. The chauffeur took the driver’s seat, and Line and Songkang got into the back seat together. It felt a bit different from the feeling of the driver’s and passenger’s seats. In an awkward atmosphere, Line gazed out the window.
“I’ll make sure to get you home safely.”
Line was looking out the window in silence, and Songkang leaned back against the seat and closed his eyes.
But for some reason, the touch of their hands beside them gave them a strange feeling. Line turned her head in that direction. It was their hands that had touched. Line quickly pulled her hand away.
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
“What are you saying? Did it feel like touching, or did you startle as if a bug or something had touched you?”
Songkang spoke with his eyes still closed. Line turned her head quickly. Then, she blinked rapidly, her bewildered lips trembling.

“That’s not it.”
Why was she so flustered again? Songkang could imagine what expression she might be making even without looking at her.
“Why are you smiling?”
“Oh, did I smile?”
Line, her eyes half-squinted as if she were uncomfortable with Songkang, who had his eyes closed. Songkang opened his eyes and turned his gaze towards her.
“Don’t ask why I’m smiling, but shouldn’t Prosecutor Jina Line smile at me too?”
If he had asked why she squinted her eyes, he intended to say one word, but when he asked like that, Line couldn’t help but relax her gaze.
“You’re not the only one I do it to, so don’t be disappointed.”
“Only to me. From now on.”
Her vague words tangled in Line’s mind.
“We’ve arrived.”

The chauffeur said.
They arrived in front of Line’s house, and she got out of the car in a hurry.
“See you tomorrow.”
As she left, Songkang’s heart felt empty, and he placed his hand on the empty seat. Why was it so elusive? But no matter how long it took, he wanted to grasp it.
“This is a time separator.”
“Attorney Cha Hae-in looks very tired.”
Haein had stayed up all night preparing for the meeting with Line. She knew that if she were unprepared, things could go wrong.
“No, why are you so tense? Pro.”
Songkang had moved with Haein without any other support staff. He even took the wheel himself. He had vehemently refused Haein’s offer to drive, and they headed to the meeting place with Line together.
Once again, Songkang and Haein arrived first. Haein stood up from her seat as if she had seen a tiger and greeted Line, while Songkang watched the scene.

He knew that Attorney Cha Hae-in was a polite and well-mannered person, but… Was she this formal? Line lightly greeted her, contrasting with Haein’s attitude.
She carried heavy documents with her, and when Haein tried to help her, Line declined.
“I should have picked up Prosecutor Jina Line.”
“We’re almost here. Why…”
Songkang had purposely chosen a meeting place where Line was present. But when he saw the documents he had brought, he regretted that he had to go and pick them up himself.
Haein took out her business card and handed it to Line, who placed it on the table without much interest.
“I’m Cha Hae-in. We’ve met before. I often saw you at the campus.”
Without any response, Line reached out for the written materials she had brought.
“Oh, today, would you like to talk about Prosecutor Jina Line’s reinstatement lawsuit before Director Na’s case?”
It was the matter Songkang had instructed Haein to handle.

“Sure, let’s talk about Director Na’s case.”
Haein glanced between Songkang and Line, unsure of what to do.
“Um… By any chance, for any reason…”
Haein cautiously asked, and Line stared at her.
“I’ll handle my own defense.”
And Songkang looked at Line as she said that. With this approach, they couldn’t proceed to the next stage.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
