Song Kang meticulously reviewed the report submitted by Line. As expected, her confidence was well-founded. The quality of her report was different from what had been coming from the legal office so far.
Reviewing its contents, Song Kang could understand why the legal office director was so exasperated. Still, he didn’t want to pass it as is. He could find fault if he wanted, so he chose to reject it.
There had been employees who cried over their reports; the “report hell” of Taesung was well known among the staff. Their reports were often rejected because they were truly unsatisfactory, but Line’s case was a bit different.
He wanted to show that he held the reins over her. He decided there would be no approval until she directly called to inquire about the reasons for the rejection.
While Line was fervently working on her report, Song Kang called in the legal office director. As Line pointed out, the director was more contemptible than the prosecutors. A knock sounded, and the secretary entered.
“Director, the legal office director is here.”
“Tell him to wait for a moment.”
Song Kang not only needed time to gather his thoughts but also wanted to let the director stew for a bit. He hoped the director’s mind would be in turmoil while waiting outside the firmly shut door.
The director had to wait outside for about 30 minutes.
Entering Song Kang’s office, the director’s face was flushed with anger and embarrassment. He couldn’t lash out at Song Kang, barely managing to keep his voice under control. Instead, he humbled himself further, knowing why he was being treated this way.

“You called for me?”
As Song Kang motioned towards the sofa, asking the director to sit, the secretary brought in a file, which Song Kang pushed towards the director.
“What is this, Director?”
“Director, it’s almost time for salary negotiations. I thought we might discuss what will come up at the negotiation table in advance.”
It was rare for employees to sit across Song Kang at the negotiation table. He only dealt directly with the talent that the company absolutely needed to retain.
He always offered them a blank check. His philosophy was that people who work should get as much as they want, and in return, the company gets as much work out of them as it requires.
This approach was why Taesung had a steady stream of talent. The legal office director had also been conditioned by Song Kang’s method.
“This time, I’d like to make the first offer.”
The director, used to Song Kang’s usual approach, felt uneasy when he heard about a pre-set amount. He reluctantly opened the file handed to him by Song Kang.
Inside, he saw the figure of 300 million won. He counted the zeros again, but the written amount confirmed it was indeed 300 million. It was a significantly symbolic figure, only a tenth of what he got in the last negotiation and even less than what attorney Cha Hae-in was earning.

Usually, such an offer in salary negotiations meant that it was time to pack your bags. Even suggesting a lesser amount or a freeze would have been insulting, but this amount was crushing.
The director couldn’t even complain about it elsewhere. If word got out that he was offered 300 million at the negotiation table, others would snicker, considering him a has-been.
Though shocked, the director knew Song Kang’s calculation didn’t stop there.
“Director…”
“Don’t be so surprised. We haven’t even started the real negotiation, have we?”
“But still…”
Song Kang always wanted to say that. No matter what, he had been watching how far people would go in belittling others.
“Even so…”
“The amount must have been quite useful for the director, wasn’t it? When you think of it as money that can ruin a person’s life, it doesn’t seem like a small sum.”
Song Kang’s words made the legal office director’s eyes roll low. 300 million won, the exact amount that had been transferred to Prosecutor Jin Line’s account. The director tried to manage his expression, but regaining composure wasn’t easy.
“Director, what are you talking about…?”

The director’s voice began to tremble.
“Director, who always emphasized the importance of former official privileges, surely you must be aware of the ironic situation that befell the prosecutor who handled my case.”
The director was in a tight spot, unable to admit or deny his knowledge, like holding a hot potato.
“You’re well aware of the matter, I suppose. The disciplinary committee at that time seemed to involve people close to you, right?”
“Ah, I don’t know anything about that. Who has been saying such things? I don’t even know who was on that disciplinary committee.”
The director vehemently denied any involvement. Song Kang almost looked at him with contempt.
“It’s disappointing to hear that our legal office director has such limited information, but if you say so, I’ll take your word for it.”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
