Although the idea of relying on an attorney from Taesung Legal Affairs wasn’t appealing, finding someone of equal caliber would be challenging. They were among the top legal minds in the country, often sought after by major law firms.
Line was somewhat relieved to know that Song Kang’s focus wasn’t solely on his own objectives.
“I’ll prepare the defense.”
“You can do as you wish.”
Predicting her response, Song Kang nonchalantly opened the contract and handed her a page.
Line’s expression turned serious upon receiving it. She resembled the person Song Kang first met, meticulously reviewing every word. Her intense focus was palpable, even in silence.
This intensity was incredibly attractive to Song Kang, momentarily disrupting his usually unshakable concentration.
Line was bothered by the ‘party A’ and ‘party B’ designations in the contract, feeling the sting of being ‘party B’.
“If the contract continues until either of us achieves our goal, does it mean the contract goes on if one fails?”
“Yes, that’s right.”

Line tilted her head slightly, then resumed reading.
“Listen while you read. It’s not in the contract, but I wish for immediate communication.”
“I don’t check my phone often.”
“That’s what I’m saying. You’ll need to start checking it regularly.”
Line looked up at him, her gaze almost accusatory, as if she wanted to ask, ‘Why should I do that?’
Song Kang could guess her thoughts just by looking at her face.
“Prosecutor Jin Line, how did you communicate within the office?”
“My colleagues informed me via intercom or phone calls to my desk.”
“We don’t have such means now, and we must rely on cell phones, so I would appreciate if you adhered to this.”
Line thought for a moment, then silently turned her eyes back to the contract.
“You haven’t responded yet.”

Song Kang’s firm voice made Line inwardly flinch, but she didn’t show it outwardly. It wasn’t just the tone that made it obvious; she had nothing to say because he was right.
“I don’t make promises I can’t keep. I’ll think about it while I finish reading the contract.”
Line bought herself some time with that response. Song Kang decided to wait until she signed the contract.
“Does breaking the confidentiality clause terminate the contract?”
“Could it? The only way this contract can be terminated is…”
Line quickly returned to reading the contract, her eyes eventually resting on the last line.
‘The contract terminates if either party gives up their goal.’ That clause left Line no room to back down.
“You can terminate the contract anytime by giving up.”
Giving up her path back to being a prosecutor was something she had never considered.
“Can you accept everything in the contract, including the communication and responsiveness I mentioned earlier?”

Line pondered for a moment. She was convinced this contract could be the pledge that would open her path.
“I’ll try…”
Having reached a compromise, Line wrote her name and signed the contract even before Song Kang prompted her to.
Song Kang was slightly surprised she made the decision without any objections. He managed to hide his startled expression.
She really signed it.
Filled with joy, Song Kang stood up, approached Line, and leaned over to look at the contract. He then pulled out a seal from his pocket and stamped his signature area.
Thus, a promise that couldn’t be broken until they gave up on what was most important in their lives was made.
Line was equally in disbelief. She never dreamed she would have such a relationship with Song Kang.
As she was about to zone out, she noticed his extended hand. It was large and reassuring, as always. Line, feeling she should reciprocate the gesture, stood up and took his hand.
“Let’s do well.”

Without responding, Line tried to let go of their clasped hands, but Song Kang didn’t release his grip.
“Haven’t we just made a contract?”
Confused, Line looked at him, not understanding what was wrong.
“I can’t wait long for a response.”
Line remained silent, still with an indifferent expression. She had heard that Song Kang’s word was law in Taesung, second only to Chairman Na, but she didn’t want t
“There are various ways to reach the destination. Will you spend your energy challenging me, or will you choose to go efficiently together? I’m sure the intelligent Prosecutor Jin Line will make a wise decision.”
Song Kang released Line’s hand and picked up the contract. He then left the business room with a composed demeanor.
After the door closed and the sound faded, Line’s legs gave way and she slumped into the chair, letting out a deep sigh.
She had been anxious that he might refuse the contract, yet she wondered why she had once again let her pride get the better of her…
Na Song Kang, he had now become a person Line desperately needed.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
