What is that evidence?
“A document stating that Geum Moran was delegated all the authority of the Future Strategy Office.”
There was a moment of silence between the phones.
I will go out to receive it myself. It’s not much time; can I make it in 30 minutes?
Seeing that La-in was willing to come out in this busy time, it seemed clear that it was an important piece of evidence.
“I’ll take about 5 minutes. Just make sure Jin La-in comes out quickly.”
Song Kang arranged a meeting place with La-in and increased his speed.
It’s not even that far, why does it feel so distant…
The prosecutor’s office building was in sight. He felt someone following him from behind. There were two black cars. Wondering if the discomfort he was feeling was just his sensitivity, he changed lanes.
It wasn’t sensitivity; it was dullness. In the midst of the chaos, he hadn’t noticed until now that he was being followed.
Song Kang looked at his watch. There wasn’t much time left until the agreed-upon time with La-in and the start of the trial. The problem was that she was standing nearby.

If he continued driving like this…
With the thought that something might happen to her too, he couldn’t bring himself to stop his car in front of her. Under the large cherry blossom tree, even more innocent than the cherry blossoms, La-in was waving her hand.
Despite the upcoming important matter, she couldn’t have a bright expression, but her presence itself was like a flower.
Song Kang captured La-in’s appearance enough in his eyes. The closer his car got to her, the harder he pressed the accelerator.
Desperation was the only thing he felt intensely: she must not get hurt.
Song Kang increased his speed and passed by her. Then, the two black cars that had been following him alternately crashed into Song Kang’s car as if to deliberately overturn it.
With Song Kang’s sudden contact, La-in left the legal office to Joo Hyuk and rushed out. The street they had agreed to meet on was covered with cherry blossoms so thick that they could almost block the sky.
Her heart swelled for a moment, and La-in anxiously waited for Song Kang. There had never been a time when she came out like this with so little time left until the trial.
If she received the evidence and rushed to the court, she might just barely make it in time wearing her lawyer’s robe.
Seeing Song Kang’s car coming from a distance, La-in waved her hand.

This is strange… Why isn’t he slowing down… We agreed to meet in front of this café building…
After his car passed by her, the two black cars collided with his car as if telling a lie.
“Ah…”
With a sigh-like sound, La-in’s whole body stiffened, and the whole world seemed to freeze. Cherry blossoms petals drifted faintly before her eyes.
It was unbelievable. No, she didn’t want to believe it.
La-in barely touched the ground with her two feet and started walking with an anxious heart. There was nothing she could do at a time when the trial was about to begin.
She called an ambulance hastily while running towards the trapped car. She didn’t know how she had run all the way to where his car was. La-in peered into the car. The airbag had burst, and the inside was not clearly visible. Through the spreading bloodstains, the view became distant.
She tried to open the car door, but the firmly closed door showed no intention of opening. La-in picked up a brick on the side of the road and swung it at the window.
She thought she needed to check his condition, even if she had to break the glass. She thought she had to quickly take him out and wait for an ambulance while performing CPR.
However, no matter how hard she tried, the glass did not seem to break. The rationality that emerged amid fear was overwhelmed by emotions, and she couldn’t muster any strength.

“No! It can’t be!”
La-in wanted to collapse, but with all her strength, she continued to swing the brick. Then, as if to stop La-in’s frenzy, the car door opened. It seemed like he had opened the door. La-in quickly pulled the door open.
Covered in blood, he crawled out of the car with evidence in his arms. Exerting the last bit of his strength, he handed the evidence to La-in and collapsed on the ground.
La-in, receiving the evidence, burst into tears with trembling breath. Then, she threw the evidence away and hugged Song Kang.
“Ah…! No…!”
Song Kang was already in a semi-conscious state. Song Kang placed his hand on the back of La-in’s hand.
“Ha… I… can’t… get hurt…”
Seeing La-in’s hand torn by the bricks, he uttered these words. He had heard the sound of La-in struggling to rescue him and had come out, struggling with all his might, to open the door. Song Kang grabbed La-in’s wrist.
La-in’s heart fell to the ground with a thud.
His hand, which held her wrist so weakly…
The first meeting between them flashed through her mind. The strong grip that held her wrist that day was nowhere to be found. It was a powerless touch that seemed to let go of her soon.

La-in was so scared that something might go wrong with him that she had almost forgotten to breathe.
He pointed to her wristwatch. It hurt her chest because it seemed like he was constantly referring to the beginning between them.
“Hurry… Ha… Hurry… Please… reveal it.”
Song Kang’s eyelids also closed halfway, and his grip on La-in’s wrist weakened, and he let go.
“No… No… Can’t go. No… Don’t go… Don’t go!”
La-in shouted at him not to go. La-in buried her face in his chest and burst into tears. Trauma from the unknown in her mother’s belly overwhelmed her entire body.
“You said you’d become a family…! You said you liked kids… How far into the future did you think… How could this happen!”
His body became limp as his strength drained away. La-in held onto the thread of consciousness about to collapse.
“No, no…!”
La-in breathed into Song Kang’s lips. When La-in’s breath was about to run out of strength, the siren of an ambulance was heard. La-in looked in that direction with desperate eyes.

Paramedics hurriedly ran towards La-in and Song Kang.
Paramedics checked Song Kang’s condition and transferred him onto a stretcher. La-in got on the ambulance. A paramedic who recognized La-in checked her condition.
“Are you Dr. Jin? Oh, I was wondering, but you’re Dr. Jin. Are you okay? Don’t you have a big trial today? Is it okay for you to stay here like this?”
La-in breathed heavily, almost raising her shoulders, and was at a loss for words. La-in thought she had to wake up, even if it was for Song Kang’s sake.
“Right now, the patient’s guardian cannot sign the surgery consent form due to the situation. Since it’s undoubtedly an emergency patient, even without the guardian’s consent, please allow emergency measures and surgery to proceed.”
“Yes, we will do that. But, by any chance, who is this patient?”
“I am Director Na Song-kang from Taesung. As you know, there is an important trial today. While delivering crucial evidence to me… I was attacked. Please save him, Director. Please use every method available under the assumption that the guardian has agreed to revive him. If there are legal consequences afterward, I will take responsibility.”
La-in stepped out of the ambulance. It was too frightening to look away from him, but the only thing she could do for him now was to head to the courtroom.
Wiping away tears with the back of her hand, La-in walked towards the evidence placed next to his accident-involved vehicle.
Seeing the blood-stained evidence, her heart wavered again. However, the more so, she had to open her eyes. Trembling, La-in picked up the evidence with her shaky hands and embraced it close to her chest.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
