“Since when did you interfere with my choices?”
There was dissatisfaction in Song-kang’s question. Geum Moran, forcing a smile, pushed up her cheekbones.
“Well, with the current situation…”
“No. Did I make the question difficult? Who gave permission for someone to interfere with my choices?”
He spoke without honorifics. Even without scrutinizing the choice of words, his anger was abundantly evident in his expression and voice.
“Oh, well… I guess you could feel that way.”
“If you’ve said all you want, please leave. I’m quite busy right now.”
Song-kang stood up. As he did, Geum Moran also stood up.
“Well, I guess I should finish this story and leave. I hope this incident doesn’t harm me too. I am innocent.”
Did she experience an out-of-body phenomenon? Geum Moran’s audacity silenced Song-kang.
“It seems like Jin La-in, that friend, knows a bit about the law and is trying to make innocent people suffer like this. If you rush in risking your life, I would gladly accept.”

Her tone was gentle, but it contained a veiled threat. However, Song-kang didn’t want to be swept away by her malicious words.
“It seems you’re busy.”
Geum Moran chuckled, turned around, and left. Song-kang suppressed the feelings she had stirred up. To resolve pending work and leave the company on time, he had to hurry.
If he didn’t see La-in’s face properly again today, it seemed like he would mess things up.
Whenever you finish work, no matter how late, come to our house.
Song-kang left her a text message and, busy with the remaining work, felt distracted.
He frequently glanced at his phone with no response. In the end, he didn’t receive a reply until the time to leave work. On the way home, the car sped up because of the tension building up in his thighs, despite the arrival of spring with significant temperature fluctuations.
When he arrived home, someone was sitting in front of the door, dozing off. From the crouched posture, it seemed like La-in.
Even though spring was approaching, it was still cold due to significant temperature fluctuations…
“What are you doing here?”

At his voice, La-in barely opened her eyes and looked up.
“Oh… Director.”
La-in, who was trying to get up from her half-awake state, nearly stumbled backward. Song-kang grabbed both of her arms to steady her. La-in, with her eyes half-open, looked up at Song-kang, then lowered her head again, sniffing.
“If you came, couldn’t you have called? Were you sitting here like this?”
“Oh, I just got here. I guess the work isn’t finished yet… ”
In reality, more than that, she didn’t have the courage to contact him because of the sins she committed.
“I can handle it alone.”
La-in slipped away from Song-kang’s touch. Then, she sniffled again.
“Let’s go inside quickly. It’s cold.”
As Song-kang led the way, La-in followed him, shivering.

The house was warm inside. The comfortable temperature and humidity made La-in’s body feel at ease, but her mind remained uneasy.
Song-kang turned to look at La-in. In the bright light, he could see her bruised face clearly. Even though he felt her face was angular when he saw her at the Prosecutor’s Office, now it looked even more gaunt.
“Is this for real?”
He had already prepared himself to hear something like this from her. Even if La-in opened her mouth ten times, she had nothing to say. Every ounce of her confidence disappeared during the investigation of Chairman Na.
“Regardless of contact, shouldn’t you be in good enough condition for me not to worry?”
“Director… I’m healthy…”
“Go to the hospital right now and check. Will you admit it only when it’s measured numerically?”
In his meticulous and demanding way, Song-kang was no less strict than her. La-in took a step toward him, and Song-kang took a step back.
“What did I do well…”
Song-kang kept his distance, unwilling to embrace her. At his hint, La-in’s lips parted, but she couldn’t respond.
There was remorse for tearing apart the chest of her father, whom she terribly respected. However, it was her principle never to apologize for things stemming from the investigations.

“I sometimes wonder how Prosecutor Jin La-in sees me.”
“What’s that…”
Song-kang wasn’t usually upset with her. Of course, there was no resentment towards his father’s investigation.
“Do you think I might say something about our father’s investigation?”
“No… it’s not that.”
La-in, looking flustered, brought her hand to her forehead and hesitated. If he had expressed his anger, she might have felt less guilty… She didn’t expect him to feel that way.
“If it’s not that, then what is it?”
La-in’s heart became tangled.
“Even if you don’t say anything to me, I’m afraid I might waver. It’s not because of you, Director, but because I lack confidence.”
“My presence burdens Prosecutor Jin La-in so much?”

Startled by Song-kang’s words, La-in shook her head.
“No, that’s not what I mean.”
“You already said from the beginning that you have no intention of getting involved in Prosecutor Jin La-in’s work, especially in investigations related to Tae-sung. How about trusting my words a bit?”
“It’s not that I can’t trust you… I just…”
“I understand what you mean. It seems like you’ve been overthinking while unable to see my face. I’m sorry.”
Song-kang fully understood why she acted that way in such a tangled situation. Exhaling deeply, he looked at his watch and then at La-in’s face. She had a puffy expression.
“Well… what do you want to do now?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
