Joo-hyuk approached Line and stood in front of her. Line looked up at him with blank eyes. She didn’t even have the energy to be angry now.
“Line, I’m sorry. It was my fault. It was my greed.”
Why were there so many people seeking forgiveness today? Line’s head ached strangely.
“I understand.”
Line brushed off the situation as if it were nothing.
“Just go and rest a bit today.”
“I can’t pass the responsibility for not taking care of myself to someone else. I need to organize things before I go.”
Although Joo-hyuk had turned off the urgent fire to some extent, the workload to be organized was not that simple. Line habitually sat down at her desk, and Joo-hyuk had no choice but to follow her.
Line lifted her arm to grab a pencil, but when her wrist tingled, she turned her eyes in that direction.
Joo-hyuk was more surprised than Line at the vivid bruise spreading on his arm than hers. If it weren’t for the traces of the syringe and the scalpel, there could have been a big misunderstanding.

“What’s this? Why is it like this?”
“Oh… I heard they couldn’t see the blood vessels, so they stabbed me several times.”
Line casually picked up the pencil, holding an eraser on her thumb.
“The bruise from the needle goes deeper, lasting longer. Where’s the hospital? Who did this?”
“It’s okay. Senior, please go home quickly.”
Joo-hyuk didn’t believe Line’s meaningless words. He took his seat again, and together with Line, spent the night.
The strategy of the two investigators was not to give them enough time to respond.
When conducting an investigation with consideration, it not only did not lead to cooperation but only caused confusion in the investigation. There was no reason to give them more discretion.
When Line initiated the summons investigation, it seemed like she was summoning Geum Mo-ran, but Line and Joo-hyuk had different plans.
They summoned Na Song-rim first.

The Director of the Legal Department and Na Song-rim were sitting in the statement recording room with very dark expressions. After Line entered, none of the three greeted each other.
Line stared at Na Song-rim, who did not seem surprised or alarmed.
“Did you know that I’m a prosecutor?”
“What are you talking about?”
Na Song-rim didn’t understand what warning Line had thrown. Instead, the Director of the Legal Department tensed up.
“I asked because I know I’m alive and it seems like it would be a shame.”
Only then did movement appear in Na Song-rim’s eyes.
“Please refrain from unrelated stories to this case!”
The head of the legal department raised his voice, pressuring Line, but she didn’t falter under such tactics. Instead, it only made her more defiant.
“On what grounds can you guarantee that this case has nothing to do with it? If the crimes committed out of fear of what would be revealed when I, a prosecutor, conducted the investigation, aren’t relevant enough, what is? Just saying it’s irrelevant won’t make it go away. If you prosecute for another case, that’ll be it.”
In response to Line’s jab, the head of the legal department let out an annoyed cough, and Na Song-rim turned her gaze to the air, pretending not to show any signs of anxiety.

“Oh, I don’t know. I’m busy, hurry up.”
The shameless Na Song-rim blurted out that she was busy.
“Okay, if you answer well, I’ll finish quickly.”
At Line’s informal speech, both Na Song-rim and the head of the legal department looked at her with surprised expressions.
“Prosecutor Jin-line, did you just use informal speech? Did you just speak informally now?”
“When the defense attorney speaks informally, you should ask if it’s okay. Are you speaking informally now?”
Na Song-rim laughed as if she found it amusing. Line looked at her as if she were pitiful. After being treated like that before and still not being able to pull herself together, what else could she do?
Line proceeded with the investigation according to the procedure.
“Before the entrance exam, you entered through the special admission process.”
“Is that so? Director, is it true?”

With a cheeky attitude, Na Song-rim asked the head of the legal department.
“Isn’t this attitude quite disadvantageous for yourself? Don’t you remember anything about the entrance exam?”
“What does a prosecutor like you know? Chaebols, living such luxurious lives every day, don’t need to remember every detail. That university? Doesn’t everyone get in?”
Line cursed with her eyes. She wanted to ask Na Song-kang, who was not a chaebol, if she didn’t live like that.
“Even luxury attendance is regular. This is the most unbelievable thing.”
“What’s wrong with me diligently attending? I have a lot of money, and there’s nothing lacking in my life. Is it a flaw that I focus on my studies?”
Line calmly accepted Na Song-rim’s self-praise. And as the boasting was coming to an end, she handed him a piece of paper. It was a record of his departure.
“Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan, and Jeju. Okay, let’s assume that. Let’s assume you used a dedicated helicopter for attendance. But, isn’t it a bit too much from Korea to Paris? There’s no country you haven’t been to, like the USA, Switzerland, Italy? Explain how it’s possible.”
Na Song-rim, with her mouth shut, looked at the head of the legal department.
“Departure could be true. In that case, wouldn’t it be a mistake by the professor in charge of attendance? Just a simple mistake.”

The head of the legal department defended Na Song-rim with a decisive tone.
“Are you saying that a simple mistake was made collectively?”
“Well, those professors should just call them like they called me and ask!”
The head of the legal department’s face turned yellow at Na Song-rim’s resistance. This was because there was nothing advantageous for Na Song-rim in those words.
Line looked pleased with Na Song-rim’s words and glanced towards the head of the legal department.
“Is it really okay? I know how to make them say what I want from their mouths…”
The head of the legal department pretended to be indifferent, making an effort not to make it a big deal.
“There seems to be no significant issue; let’s move on to the next question.”
Line looked at another document and chuckled. Na Song-rim openly expressed displeasure at Line’s attitude.
Then, with a nonchalant posture, Na Song-rim sat down and clenched his fist. Line hardened her face and stared at him intently.
“Defendant, I’ll give you one last chance. If you behave properly and cooperate with the investigation, we will consider that part sufficiently.”

“Is this a show? How impressive.”
There seemed to be no room for a change in his attitude.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
