“What’s this new trick… Is this really everything this time?”
Juhyuk commented upon seeing the documents and evidence sent by Taesung Legal Department.
Usually, staff would have entered in a line, pulling hand carts, but this time, it was just a single envelope of documents.
The significantly reduced volume made him feel more uneasy than ever, leading to several rechecks to confirm if this was all.
Raine also shared the apprehension. Knowing Taesung Legal Department, it wasn’t like them to not produce more evidence. She recalled Songgang’s statement from the previous investigation.
His confession of not being the criminal and his desire to uncover the truth seemed sincere. Coincidentally, Taesung Legal Department’s response changed right after.
Whether his help had reached the legal department or if there was another agenda was yet to be seen, but the noticeable reduction in materials was welcome.
With such a manageable amount, Raine began to carefully flip through each page. However, the legal department’s stance hadn’t changed. Instead, they more compactly asserted Songgang’s criminal acts.
“Claiming innocence but facing a definite sentence, they’re arguing for a lesser sentence…”
Raine muttered softly. It was evident that Taesung Legal Department intended to ensure a prison sentence regardless.

“All this could’ve been said in this much, and they did it this way until now?”
Juhyuk looked at the heaps of printed materials in the room and spoke in a defeated tone.
“If it turns out Songgang isn’t the real culprit, we’ll have to deal with Taesung Legal Department too.”
The legal team was indeed infuriating. It served as a motivation for both Juhyuk and Raine.
“Senior, I’ll send Songgang’s handwriting for detailed analysis tomorrow.”
“Alright. We’ve been so busy, we’ve put it off until now. Finally, it seems we can conduct a real investigation.”
The reduction in aggressive evidence volume was a welcome change. Raine started to pack a few documents containing Songgang’s handwriting into an envelope.
“Senior, should we schedule a summons for Nasongrim soon?”
Raine determined that Nasongrim and Nasongwoon couldn’t be left out, considering the ‘Nasong[Dash]’ signature.
“Yeah, do that. Nasongrim and Nasongwoon have been too quiet, despite the rumors. Might be stock market gossip, but there’s no smoke without fire, I believe.”

Juhyuk agreed, thinking his speculation wasn’t wrong.
“Or they’ve been covering up well until now.”
Raine’s comment was packed with implications.
“The bribery and favors seem unrelated to Nasonggang, but they appear significantly related to these siblings.”
They couldn’t convince the court with plausible stories, so summoning and investigating them seemed like the only option.
Raine hoped that bringing them in for questioning might yield some results.
Responding to Songgang’s summons, Haein entered his office with a visibly uncomfortable expression.
The legal department had produced two separate reports, and documents signed by him but containing different content were submitted to the prosecution.
Songgang stood up from his desk and walked over to the sofa, sitting down.
“Have a seat.”

As he spoke, Haein moved to sit beside him and handed him a document.
“What is this?”
“It’s the material submitted to the prosecution.”
Songgang looked at him with slight confusion. He didn’t resent the submission of different documents to the prosecution.
He wasn’t unaware of it. But he hadn’t expected Haein to bring him confidential information from the legal department.
“It’s funny that Taesung has secrets from me… But why are you bringing this to me?”
Songgang asked Haein, who hesitated before answering.
“Because I said I would inform you if I found out anything.”
“Is that all?”
Songgang asked again, genuinely puzzled.
“Because you trusted me.”

The simplicity of the answer made it almost suspicious.
The day he ordered all the documents to be brought to his office, if Songgang had only taken what he needed, Haein would have been in a difficult position. The legal department head might have even removed Haein’s desk to the hallway or tried to demote him.
This incident was the catalyst, but Haein had already been fed up with the head’s vile nature and didn’t want to reject Songgang’s offered hand.
He didn’t necessarily want to be a righteous lawyer, but he didn’t want to make an innocent person a criminal either.
“I don’t know about honesty, but I like the straightforwardness.”
Songgang started to go through the documents Haein brought. Even for him, experienced in global economics and various fields, law was a challenging area.
Moreover, the cunning legal department head made it even more difficult with privilege-laden documents only legal professionals could understand.
“Truthfully, I don’t understand much, but it doesn’t seem particularly favorable for me.”
Even to his untrained eye, the atmosphere exuded by the documents was clear.
“So, what’s the conclusion?”

“Mitigation.”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
