Staying indoors longer than usual was, in truth, excessive consideration.

I placed the glass conspicuously within the woman’s view, as if begging her to kill me, and thus dragged out the time.

The water glass resting demurely on the table entered my line of sight.

It was only natural that it would be prepared—after all, I always drank it habitually upon returning from my bath.

I set it deliberately before the woman.

Ever since she met her uncle.

So that she wouldn’t fail in her scheme for lack of opportunity to kill me.

Like a madman screaming to be put out of his misery.

And yet, while washing my hands, I entertained such foolish thoughts.

That this woman couldn’t possibly be the one to kill me.

Secretly, I hoped she wouldn’t go all the way through with it.
