The feeling of waking from a long slumber.

Hae Yeon stirred awake from a hazy dream, opening her eyes as she listened to the soft, steady heartbeat echoing in her ears.

She lowered her eyelids against the sudden brightness, then lifted them again; slowly, her blurry vision returned.

“Hae Yeon… you’re awake?”

Turning her head toward the voice that sounded like it was rousing a sleepy child, Hae Yeon saw a tall man standing with his back to the window, bathed in lazy afternoon sunlight.

Suddenly, the last face she remembered overlapped with his.

Those deep black eyes, once vivid with a faint reddish hue, and the unusually moist gaze she’d rarely seen—both unfamiliar and yet achingly familiar.

Deep inside her chest, her heart ached.

“Yes. I’m awake.”

Having emerged at last from the long, dreamlike slumber she’d endured, Hae Yeon now locked eyes with Do Ha, her focus sharp and clear.

Perhaps recognizing her faint smile, he reached out his hand. The moment his warm touch cradled her cheek, Hae Yeon drew in a breath.

“…Right.”

His voice, trembling slightly, weighed heavily on her chest, and she couldn’t bring herself to smile. She simply stroked his large hand, absorbing its comforting warmth.

It must have been overwhelming. When she turned toward the window, the blinding reflection of the sun dipping below the horizon like a scream forced her eyes shut.

Silence had enveloped the room for a long while, and Hae Yeon remained perfectly still within it. Though it hadn’t even been a full day since the place was emptied, the somber air carried the chill of a house long abandoned.
