By the time Hae Yeon left the office, it was already well past quitting time. The issue had inconveniently erupted just as the day’s deadline was approaching, which caused the delay.

Though the day hadn’t been physically taxing, Hae Yeon’s mind had been worn thin. Dragging her exhausted body, she returned home.

“Has Mr. Do Ha not come home yet?”

Late at night, the house—usually bright when he was there—was shrouded in darkness. Inside, Hae Yeon switched on the lights and spotted a memo on the table.

[Hae Yeon, since you’re not answering your phone, I’m leaving this note. Dinner’s already prepared by the housekeeper, so please eat it. You must be tired, so don’t wait up for me—go to sleep first.]

The neat, almost printed-looking handwriting was unmistakably Do Ha’s.

“Oh.”

Only then did Hae Yeon pull out her phone, which she’d ignored while being harangued by Team Leader of Sales Team 2. As expected, missed calls and messages had piled up on her screen.

Guilt washed over her for not checking her phone—but at the same time, receiving a message in his actual handwriting stirred a flutter in her chest. For a moment, she even considered asking him to always write her notes like this whenever something similar happened again.

“No, now’s hardly the time to get soft.”

Recalling why Do Ha had gone out that evening, Hae Yeon quickly dismissed the thought. She’d learned the reason he kept leaving dinner-time thanks to the documents Yoon Ho had given her. As if offering a bonus, the last page had this note:

Finally understanding the mystery behind his nightly outings, Hae Yeon felt a lump rise in her throat. She knew just how packed Do Ha’s schedule was.

That he managed to squeeze in therapy amid such a hectic schedule, that his body still hadn’t fully recovered months after the accident, and above all—that he had to handle both company matters and his own responsibilities despite still being unwell—all weighed heavily on her heart.

She hated it all.

She wanted nothing more than to shout at Do Ha right then and there: hand the company over to someone else and please, just rest. But with no right to interfere, she could only let her heart burn in silence.
