Initially, Haeyeon sat dumbfounded. She couldn’t accept the situation.
Even without fully spreading his clothes, she could guess the enormity of the scars peeking through. The moment she saw his body, the phrase “shattered into pieces” crossed her mind.
She couldn’t move at all. It felt as if someone had poured plaster over her, solidifying her limbs.
Unable to hold back any longer, a sob broke through her fingers, and Haeyeon began to cry. She couldn’t touch Do-ha’s skin, fearing that even her touch might cause him pain, so she just cried, frozen in place.
“Huh, uh…”
Tears invaded her lips, and Haeyeon bit down hard. What if Do-ha woke up and saw her like this? She felt like she wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Somehow, she needed to button up Do-ha’s pajamas, but her hands trembled terribly. After several failed attempts due to her slippery fingers, she finally managed to button them and carefully got out of bed.
Her legs gave way, her knees buckling under her. Haeyeon struggled to pick herself up and headed straight to the bathroom. As soon as she locked the door, she turned on the faucet and let out her pent-up tears.
“Huu, huk, hik.”
She gasped for air, fearing the sound of her sobs might not be completely masked by the running water.

The marks, unimaginable in their pain, overwhelmed her. Just the thought of the agony Do-ha must have endured was too much, filling her mind with denial and horror.
Was she really the one who inflicted those terrible marks?
Just the thought disgusted her, making her nauseous. The scars, not even a year old and still unhealed, must have tormented him all this time.
Haeyeon felt like she was suffocating under the weight of her own thoughts. Feeling guilty for even thinking about it, she collapsed onto the floor.
“I have to get up.”
Haeyeon urged herself. She couldn’t fall apart just because she found a scar. She couldn’t stop because stopping without understanding the reason behind such grievous harm to the person she loved was a sin in itself.
But her body wouldn’t obey her.
After crying so much she felt dehydrated, Haeyeon struggled to stand up and splashed cold water on her blotchy face. She washed away the tears, feeling her cheeks go numb from the cold water, and looked up.
Clenching her teeth, Haeyeon saw her reflection in the mirror. She couldn’t bear to look at her own face, tinged with venom, for long and opened the bathroom door.
[Star icon] [Star icon] [Star icon]It was an unusually clear morning. Do-ha, who had drunk a bit too much the night before, woke up slightly groggy. As a couple of four years, they knew each other’s whereabouts without seeing each other.

Sure enough, Haeyeon was bustling around the kitchen from early morning. Do-ha paused to watch her endearingly, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed.
‘She’s cute.’
Do-ha thought while looking at Haeyeon, different from his usual impeccable and tidy appearance. His usually neatly combed hair covered his forehead, a bit disheveled from just waking up, and he was still in his pajamas.
Do-ha, who looked younger than his age, didn’t usually give off a youthful vibe due to his intimidating aura and style. But now, he looked fresh enough to pass for a college student.
After watching her affectionately for a while, Do-ha approached her. He made noise deliberately, so she wouldn’t be startled while holding a knife. As he slowly walked and stood behind her, his tall figure cast a shadow over Haeyeon’s head.
“Are you making juice?”
“Do-ha, you’re up? Just need to blend it now, so wait a bit.”
Haeyeon’s shoulders overlooked the chopping board filled with various fruits cut into suitable sizes. Beside them lay yellow honey and clear ice, with the blender also ready.
Haeyeon’s frequent late nights and heavy workload were always catered for by her wife, who kept the necessary ingredients at hand. Despite being near her, Haeyeon remained focused on making juice, causing Do-ha to lean in and inspect her face.
“Hm? Haeyeon, did you secretly eat ramen or something? Why are your eyes so swollen?”
Do-ha teased her playfully. Even though Haeyeon’s eyes weren’t that swollen, he exaggerated to tease her. Haeyeon, seemingly embarrassed, whispered softly.

“…I guess I’m just tired.”
Interpreting Haeyeon’s behavior as being embarrassed about her swollen eyes, Do-ha embraced her from behind and chuckled. His low laughter continued.
“You must have had a lot of fun yesterday. Did you enjoy your time with Do-hee?”
Only then did Haeyeon smile. She didn’t forget to playfully roll her eyes at Do-ha’s childlike manner of speaking.
Captivated by her adorable response, Do-ha moved to her side, lifting his left hand and cupping Haeyeon’s cheek. He then kissed her pink cheek.
“Yes, it was nice.”
Haeyeon’s eyes sparkled with love. Do-ha chuckled again and helped her put fruits into the blender.
The two, having a light breakfast, walked side by side down the corridor.
“I’ve applied for a housekeeper.”
Do-ha’s sudden remark came from beside her.

“What?”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
