My Husband's Lover - Chapter 21
As Ye Rin spent the weekend alone while Do Ha was away on a business trip, she couldn’t sit still and moved around restlessly.
As if trying to forget something, Ye Rin tidied up places she had already cleaned several times before finally sighing and plopping down on the sofa with a thud.
“It will take some time. In the meantime, try to forget about this and just live your life. You’ve even started working now,” Yoon Ho had said before parting ways the previous day.
Since the period of lost memories spanned roughly 8 months, it would take a long time to find case records. On top of that, they had to search while avoiding the eyes of Do Ha and Chairman Yoon.
At least Ye Rin had been able to cut down on time by refusing to let Yoon Ho organize and deliver the information to her.
After hearing Yoon Ho’s sincere advice, Ye Rin agonized before deciding to ask for all the information he collected as is. She understood what he said, and even if she tried to think rationally, she didn’t know if she would waver when actually faced with it.
That’s why she made this decision. To engrave even the trivial details of the process into her eyes one by one.
“…But I can’t help worrying about it.”
Was it because she had to spend time alone in this large house that these thoughts came to her more? Unfortunately, Miss and Joo Ah had schedules even on weekends, and no one else came to mind. It was because Ye Rin didn’t have a wide social circle.
If only Do Ha was here, Ye Rin inwardly thought. In fact, thanks to Do Ha being away on a trip, she was able to easily meet with Yoon Ho. And even if Do Ha was here in this situation, it was obvious that all sorts of thoughts would just clutter her mind. Still, she felt regretful.
“Haa, let’s just go to sleep.”
Realizing that Do Ha wouldn’t return until tomorrow evening, the gloomy Ye Rin decided to just sleep. She threw herself onto the king-size bed that felt especially big today, tightly shut her eyes and wished for tomorrow to come quickly.
Some time passed.
As the bedroom was enveloped in darkness, the sound of even breathing could be heard. Despite worrying that she might not fall asleep, Ye Rin had quickly drifted off. She even had a dream, which was rare for Ye Rin who usually either didn’t dream at all or couldn’t remember even if she did.
In her dream, Ye Rin was trapped in a white darkness where she couldn’t see anything. It was a light that brightly illuminated her vision, but a groan escaped her mouth at the inexplicable feeling of rejection.
“…Ugh, urgh… Do Ha… avoid… you…”
Not knowing what she herself was saying, Ye Rin wandered through the dream completely drenched in cold sweat. The various indistinguishable noises coming from all directions rummaged through her ears.
‘Ye Rin-ah.’
A voice calling her name could be heard from somewhere. Even though she wanted to escape quickly, Ye Rin tried her hardest to come to her senses at the familiar voice, unable to move because of something restraining her body.
‘Ye Rin-ah.’
Concentrating and listening again amidst the countless dizzying noises, she could finally vaguely make out the lingering voice. With a distant longing, Ye Rin moved her lips to give an answer.
‘Do Ha-.’
“Ye Rin-ah!”
“Huk!”
With the sudden feeling of being thrust into reality and the voice heard right by her ear, Ye Rin abruptly sat up and woke from her sleep. Not even noticing the hand holding her, Ye Rin gasped for breath.
“Haa, huk. Ha… Heuung.”
“Ye Rin-ah, are you okay? Did you come to your senses?”
“Heuk, heu. Yes, yes?”
Without even recognizing what was being said, Ye Rin blurted out any answer, thinking she just needed to reply to the person in front of her. Tears welled up without her noticing. Ye Rin couldn’t clearly confirm who it was as the wetness blurred her vision.
The other person didn’t say anything more. They just took out a handkerchief hidden in the drawer of their own nightstand next to the bed and wiped away Ye Rin’s tears.
As the handkerchief approached her eyes, Ye Rin naturally closed them. Having thrashed about so much that she was exhausted, she stayed still like that. Gradually, as time passed, she was soon breathing evenly again. She had fallen back asleep.
“……”
Noticing that Ye Rin had fallen asleep, he pulled out the handkerchief he had pressed to the corner of her eyes. Worried that the sweat on her body would cool and cause a fever, he quietly walked to the bathroom. Bringing back a wet towel soaked in cold water, he silently wiped her down.
After skillfully completing this series of actions and cleaning up, he belatedly changed clothes and laid down on the bed.
Turning his body towards the bedside, the man interlocked his fingers with the hand limply dropped on the sheets and gazed at Ye Rin for a long time before finally closing his own eyes as well.
* * *
“Ugh.”
Ye Rin opened her eyes without an alarm sound and let out a groan, feeling strangely fatigued.
“Ugh, I went to bed early last night, so why do I feel like this?”
Thinking she must be getting old, Ye Rin felt a strange weight on top of her body.
“Huh?”
Ye Rin’s eyes widened. On top of the blanket covering her, Do Ha’s left wrist came into view. Now that she looked, her fingers also felt unfamiliar. Checking, she saw that Do Ha was tightly holding her hand with his right.
‘Do Ha said he’d be back this evening, right?’
Not knowing when he had arrived, Ye Rin curled up facing his direction and gazed at the deeply asleep Do Ha.
Ye Rin’s brows drooped in pity at his state, having not sensed any signs of his return during the night. Judging by Do Ha’s condition, he must have returned at dawn, and arriving at that hour would have been quite taxing.
Holding back a sigh that naturally escaped and looking at him with compassion, Do Ha lifted his heavy-looking eyelids as if sensing her gaze.
“Do Ha, there’s still time, so sleep some more,” Ye Rin whispered, wanting to let him rest more in case he was tired. Her excessively soft voice seemed like it would lull the listener into drowsiness. It was a sound that would immediately put one to sleep, but Do Ha didn’t give in.
Raising himself up smoothly, Ye Rin swallowed her disappointment inwardly at the sight. No, this isn’t bad either. Since he’s already up, it’s fine to satisfy her curiosity.
“But when did you get back? You told me you’d be back in the evening.”
“……”
Do Ha, who usually answered right away whenever she asked him something, somehow just stared at her without a word. Feeling a bit embarrassed, Ye Rin smiled awkwardly. Then Do Ha responded with a faint smile, answering Ye Rin’s question quietly.
“The schedule was abruptly canceled. It’s your first day of work, so I figured I should at least pick you up, no?”
“Saying that makes it so I can’t even nag you……”
Ye Rin, who was about to scold him, gave up when Do Ha brought up ‘picking her up’. It was a word brimming with affection. Still, what was annoying was annoying.
“The energetic driver did the driving.”
As Do Ha quickly made excuses, sensing what Ye Rin was going to nag about, she pursed her lips.
Even with Do Ha having a chauffeur, it was still dangerous after all. She made up her mind to definitely bring it up later, though she’d let it slide this time. However, there was still a bit of sulkiness left in Ye Rin’s tone as she got out of bed.
“Rest some more at least while I make juice. You must!”
The day of Ye Rin’s first day of work at Dali Coffee had finally arrived.
Picking out clothes in the dressing room, Ye Rin took the two outfits Do Hee had chosen for her at the department store last time and went to Do Ha.
“Do Ha. Which one do you think is better?”
“You want me to pick?”
Do Ha’s elongated, slitted eyes narrowed. It was a look as if asking if she really trusted his sense of style.
“Yes. Since it’s the first time your wife is going to work, I’ll give you the special opportunity to choose.”
At her playful words, Do Ha scratched his cheek and alternately looked at the clothes in Ye Rin’s hands. Ye Rin raised and lowered what she was holding in each hand, as if asking ‘This one? Or this?’
Do Ha’s gaze also moved according to Ye Rin’s direction, but he couldn’t come up with an answer at all. After pondering for a moment, he grinned mischievously at Ye Rin.
“Do you have time?”
“Huh? Why are you asking about time?”
“Go change and come out. Then I’ll pick one for you.”
Ah. Ye Rin suddenly felt shy and blushed. When he occasionally smiled like a boy with that splendid face of his, Ye Rin’s face would redden.
‘When such a masculine, handsome man smiles impishly like a kid, it can’t be helped.’
Just then, the corners of Do Ha’s eyes curved like crescents. Looking at him, Ye Rin rationalized to herself.
“Alright……”
Ye Rin, who timidly responded, practically ran to the dressing room.
The atmosphere at home was warm and soft from the morning. As a result of both of them carefully choosing, the outfit selected was the flowy suit with wide-leg trousers that Do Hee had liked the most.
Do Ha took the lead and meticulously checked until right before leaving the house to see if anything was out of place, allowing Ye Rin to depart with peace of mind. As they exited the front gate, a neatly dressed man politely bowed his head.
“Madam. Please get in.”
“We’re even troubling you today in addition to me, Secretary Kim. I feel so bad, what should I do?”
“I trust you’ll put in a good word to the CEO for me.”
At Secretary Kim’s witty remark, who served as Do Ha’s assistant and driver, Ye Rin smiled and instead of immediately getting in, she first peeked inside the car through the window.
Do Ha was sitting inside, busy since the morning looking at a tablet PC. With his head lowered and concentrating on the screen, Ye Rin couldn’t think of getting in and just kept staring.
His thick, soft hair was neatly pushed back, fully revealing his straight forehead and dark eyebrows. Below that, his delicate features, as if perfectly arranged by a meticulous sculptor, were scrunched in concentration, but that only added vibrancy overall and once again made Ye Rin’s heart race today.
As Ye Rin was engrossed in watching, the window suddenly slid down smoothly.
“Eep!”
Ye Rin was flustered. Out of nowhere, the dark ink-colored eyes that were now looking at her through the gap in the window were intently gazing. Looking down in a daze, Do Ha grinned slyly and teased Ye Rin.
“Did you enjoy the view?”
“What? Yes. Ah, no, since when did you know…?”
With a guilty conscience, Ye Rin became timid. Holding her heated cheeks that had reddened, she got into the car and this time, a familiar scent knocked on her chest. It was Do Ha’s light perfume with a woody scent that Ye Rin liked.
“From the beginning? Your shadow was cast because you came up to the window and were absentmindedly staring at someone, so it was easy to tell.”
“…I get it, so you don’t need to explain in such detail.”
As Ye Rin wilted like a scolded puppy, Secretary Kim, who confirmed the two’s appearance through the rearview mirror, laughed silently.
After confirming that Ye Rin had fastened her seatbelt, Secretary Kim soon started the car. As the passenger car slowly moved, Do Ha plugged the tablet into the socket of the front seat. In fact, he had only been pretending to look at it since Ye Rin was peeking inside.
As Ye Rin was embarrassedly looking out the window, the sensation of soft fingertips touched her chin and turned her head to the left. The handsome man’s face she had seen earlier was right in front of her nose. With his already alluring appearance, the stimulating scent of his perfume tickling the tip of her nose, Ye Rin ended up bursting into laughter.
“Hmm, when a handsome man seduces me like this, I can’t help it.”
At Ye Rin’s words, Do Ha’s smile deepened. Finally unable to hold back her laughter, Ye Rin cracked up and at some point, Do Ha wrapped an arm around Ye Rin’s shoulders and she rested her round head on his shoulder.
“Eyes forward, Secretary Kim.”
When Do Ha spoke, Secretary Kim answered with a “Yes” and let out a dry cough, but the corners of his mouth could be seen turned up. Ye Rin said “I’m sorry” to Secretary Kim and narrowed her eyes at Do Ha. The two spent an affectionate time together, even if brief, before arriving at Dali Coffee’s headquarters.
The enjoyable time always passes by swiftly. Talking dearly, they soon arrived at Dali Coffee’s headquarters before they knew it. Just looking at the overwhelming height of the building showed how well Dali Coffee was doing in the industry these days.
As Ye Rin was preparing to get out of the car while looking at the slightly unique design of the building befitting a café company, she stopped opening the door at Do Ha’s words.
“Text me 10 minutes before you get off work. I’ll come pick you up.”
“What about your work?”
“…Ye Rin, I see you know my image well. You expect me to let you go home alone on a day like this?”
Do Ha chuckled and firmly pressed Ye Rin’s cheek.
“That’s true.”
Ye Rin smiled brightly. After getting out of the car and waving goodbye, Ye Rin turned her body and looked up at the building again once the car was far away. A quiet voice she had heard sometime before lingered in her ears.
‘Since I’m giving you an opportunity, you better take it well.’
Ye Rin clenched her fist. This was just the beginning. Chairman Yoon Myung Gil would try to interfere with her using Lee Su Rin, or any other means and methods.
So Dali Coffee was no different than a tiger’s den where traps or attacks of any kind could be lurking. Even if it was a situation where she was willingly entering such a place, she vowed to overcome all crises and uncover all the truths of the past.
“Let’s go in.”
Ye Rin powerfully stepped forward, advancing the black pumps with a moderately high heel.
My Ex-Girlfriend Is The Regent In The Female-dominant World (Male lead transmigrates to the matriarchal world)
Two years ago, Gu Sui picked up a homeless woman in ancient costume from the street.
Apart from occasionally claiming to be a princess from a female-dominant country due to illness, her figure, appearance, intelligence, and martial arts skills were impeccable.
Naturally evolving from roommates to girlfriends, as time went on, Gu Sui found it increasingly difficult to tolerate her queen syndrome.
“Mu Jiulu, can you stop controlling me inside and out? Let’s break up.”
Gu Sui made a breakup call, and since then, he couldn’t find any trace of her.
A year later, Gu Sui, who was planning to move, woke up the next day and found himself in a different place.
“Young Master, today is the day you choose your Wife-master through martial arts competition at Jade Dew Pavilion. Please get up quickly.”
Gu Sui: Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?
As the only son of a general’s mansion in a female-dominant dynasty, the young empress personally issued a decree allowing Gu Sui to select his Wife-master through martial arts competition. Whoever could defeat him could marry him.
Gu Sui: “……”
He didn’t inherit the original owner’s martial prowess, so anyone could defeat him! And what the hell is a Wife-master?
Forced to come to Jade Dew Pavilion, the densely packed women below made Gu Sui’s agoraphobia act up, and his face was full of resistance.
Until he saw the Regent sitting on the second floor, with a smile on the corner of her lips, her eyes wicked and nonchalant.
Hmm… she looked a little familiar.
It turned out that the Regent also found him a little familiar.
Mu Jiulu fiddled with her bone clasp, her deep gaze locked on the man who was out of place in this world.
“Finally, I found you.”
