Before Ye-eun could ask more, Haeyeon quickly got out of the taxi and ran towards Doha. Walking beside him with an air of indifference, she gathered her courage to speak.
“Thank you for earlier.”
Doha stopped and finally looked down at Haeyeon. The streetlights reflected in his deep black eyes, revealing a spectrum of colors. Suddenly facing him, Haeyeon, flustered, averted her gaze.
“I want to repay you. Please contact me on this number.”
Feeling grateful, she took out a post-it from her bag, wrote her number, and handed it to him. Doha frowned slightly, then spoke in a pleasing voice.
“There’s no need for thanks; it wasn’t done for that. But may I give you some advice?”
“Advice…?”
Startled, Haeyeon blinked rapidly. Doha furrowed his brow again.
“People often misinterpret such gestures.”
As Doha handed back the post-it, Haeyeon, her face flushing, awkwardly accepted it, feeling like she had been firmly rejected.

“Sorry…”
Before she could finish apologizing, Doha straightened up, his expression slightly rigid, making Haeyeon feel awkward.
He walked ahead again. Haeyeon, without realizing, followed him until he stepped down onto the road and hailed a taxi. Bewildered, she started to walk away but suddenly felt her wrist being grasped.
“Get in.”
“Me?”
Doha gestured with his chin, his expression still impassive. Feeling as if she had no choice but to follow, Haeyeon got into the taxi, drawn as if by a magnet. Just when it seemed he would close the door, Doha sat in the front seat.
“Where to?”
The taxi driver asked, and Doha turned his head slightly to look at Haeyeon. Under his gaze, she mentioned the name of a station near her home.
“To Dobong District station, please.”
As Haeyeon turned her head to look out the window, the taxi driver turned on the radio before any awkward silence could set in. Contrary to the atmosphere inside the car, a trot song started playing, and as they drove off, Haeyeon slowly exhaled, feeling as if all her tension was dissipating.
A thought struck her. Was this man following her, or were they just heading in the same direction?

“Excuse me…”
When Haeyeon spoke up, Doha turned his head back again. With a flushed face and an awkward tone, Haeyeon asked him a question.
“Um, where are you heading?”
“I’m fine, so let’s go to Dobong District.”
Doha replied with a slight frown. Haeyeon, feeling awkward at his curt response, turned her gaze back outside, but her feelings were evident on her face. Her cheeks reddened as if she was about to press her head against the window.
“Thank you.”
When they arrived at the station, Haeyeon attempted to pay the taxi fare, but Doha was quicker. Before she could react properly, the driver had already processed the payment and returned the card to its owner. As Doha got out of the taxi, Haeyeon quickly took out some cash, wanting to at least pay half of the fare.
“Please take this.”
“Let’s go.”
Doha spoke bluntly. When Haeyeon hesitated, he added,

“I’ll walk you home.”
What? Haeyeon looked at him, puzzled, but Doha just walked ahead. Unable to decide what to do, Haeyeon followed him. When they reached her house, she hesitated, unsure whether to invite him in for tea, ask for his contact details, or simply thank him and let him go.
While Haeyeon was still pondering, Doha had already turned and walked down the alley. His tall stature and long strides made it impossible for her to catch up.
“What was that all about?”
Watching Doha disappear into a speck in the distance, Haeyeon murmured to herself and then entered her house.

The sight made Li Ruantang’s eyes hot and her heart flutter. After all, she had made a bet with the young master Meng from the neighboring family. If she couldn’t marry a husband before the end of the year, she would have to admit defeat and give up the jade she had worked so hard to obtain.
Outside the window, the flowers were in full bloom.
Rather than losing the bet, the jade, and her face, Li Ruantang calculated that it would be better to seek marriage with the young master in front of her, killing three birds with one stone.
…

It wasn’t until they returned to the capital that Li Ruantang suddenly remembered.
When they had fallen off the cliff, in order not to implicate Wei Yunruo, whom he secretly admired, the young husband had instead pulled her, who was slightly farther away, down the cliff with him…
