The Imperial Palace’s chief physician fixed his gaze on her swollen belly and gave a firm warning.

Following the physician’s advice, the palace’s security was further tightened. Chloe couldn’t take a single step outside without additional guards, and she couldn’t even taste her meals until another servant had verified the food was truly safe.

She couldn’t even dream of fulfilling her duties as Empress. All her responsibilities had been passed entirely to Haide and other court officials, and even her occasional outdoor activities—done only when she felt bored—were now strictly controlled.

Honestly, it didn’t seem quite that extreme—but since everyone insisted on restricting her movements, she had no choice.

Suddenly, she remembered the book she’d left behind the previous night in Coon’s private study. Jane had suggested having tea time, saying she’d bought a new herbal blend from the teashop, and Chloe thought that book would pair nicely with the tea.

Thus, Chloe headed toward the Emperor’s private study, accompanied by knights walking both ahead and behind her.

“I refuse.”

It was the exact moment Chloe reached the door and grasped the doorknob. Two voices overlapped from beyond the wall— one belonging to her beloved husband, the other to Count Hallon, the diplomat.
