Perhaps he did not consider what he lost as a sacrifice but as things that were stolen from him by Chloe and now, the emperor. Helena too did not comprehend personal accountability nor being responsible for one’s own actions. Those two shared quite a few undesirable traits. The most surprising one being how entitled they behaved considering their stations.
