Startled, Chloe also looked around before lowering her voice.

“Did she wake up?”

“I don’t know the details, Your Highness. You should go meet the physician yourself.”

“I’ll go right away.”

She promptly rose from her seat.

Dylan, being an efficient assistant, seemed to know the maze-like corridors well.

“The physician will be waiting inside. You may enter.”

“Thank you.”

Chloe took hold of the doorknob with a pounding heart.

She couldn’t fathom why the physician had called for her. Was it because Jane had woken up, or had something else happened?

Upon entering the hidden room within Chloe’s chambers, she saw the physician sitting in a chair.

Instinctively checking on Jane, Chloe felt relieved. Given Jane’s usual complexion, it didn’t seem like she was called for the worst news.

“I heard you called about Jane.”

“Yes, Princess. The maid seemed to regain consciousness briefly.”

“Did she open her eyes?”

“Yes. She appears to have lost consciousness again, but if she continues to make an effort in recovery, she will regain her senses.”

Hearing the optimistic words from the physician, Chloe visibly brightened.

When she had first seen Jane, she looked as if clinging to life was a struggle. Now, she might regain consciousness.

After thanking the leaving physician repeatedly, Chloe stayed in the room.

There was nothing more she could do for Jane, who had received bandages and treatment from the physician, but she wanted to stay.

If by any chance Jane were to open her eyes again, she wanted to witness it.

‘I’ll have to finish the report here.’

That’s when she remembered the report she’d left in the library.

It seemed efficient to work on the report while staying beside Jane.

Since up to ten books could be borrowed, it was just enough.

While massaging Jane’s legs to prevent muscle contraction, Chloe carefully stood up.

Thanks to her quick actions, she was able to arrive at the palace library just before it closed.

‘……Where is it?’

She quickly scanned her workspace intending to retrieve the report, but it was nowhere to be found.

Even after asking the librarian, who was arranging the books, there were no lost items found today.

She searched high and low during the breaks but her efforts were futile, the report was mysteriously missing.

‘No one would have taken it…….’
Doubting others seemed pointless, because even if someone did take the report, there was little they could do with it. It wasn’t confidential information, just ideas for the upcoming festival.

Could the janitor have mistaken it for trash and thrown it away?

Finding the report seemed impossible for Chloe at this point.

‘I’ll have to rewrite it…’

A report that was nearing completion after a week’s worth of work had disappeared without a trace.

Fortunately, thanks to thorough review, she remembered the contents and the references she used. So, it would be quick to rewrite based on that.

‘I’ll have to tell the chairman that it will take me a bit longer to write the report.’

Her plan to submit the report tomorrow and attend the meeting was forcibly canceled.

She would go to the meeting room tomorrow, explain the situation, and then submit the report immediately.

Thinking this, Chloe managed to ease her disappointment.

The next day, Chloe ate breakfast in her room after asking permission from the maid who came to serve it. Every second was precious if she was to write the report.

By the time it was lunch, about half of the report was completed. Her wrist ached from nonstop writing.

Chloe took a quick lunch break and then rushed to the meeting room.

The chairman, as usual, had arrived early and was preparing for the meeting.

“Madam? Ah, will you be attending the meeting from today?”

“It’s been a while. I was going to, but a troublesome issue came up. That’s why I’m here.”

“Oh, what happened?”

Chloe explained the situation to the chairman who asked what happened.

However, the chairman’s response was unexpected.

“Haha. So, you were worried about that. Don’t worry about the report, Madam. I should’ve told you earlier, but I was too busy. I apologize.”

“It’s okay?”

“We received a report today, and it’s flawless. I’m thinking of using it as the final decision.”

“Ah…”

“Thanks to your initial efforts, it turned out like this.”

“No, it’s thanks to everyone’s hard work.”

Though she smiled generously, Chloe’s heart was filled with regret.

She would have liked to request that her own report be considered for the final decision, but she didn’t even have a physical copy to compare.

If she hadn’t lost the proposal, this regrettable situation wouldn’t have occurred.

“By the way, whose opinion was accepted?”

“It was Helena who stepped in when the princess was absent from the meeting. Speaking of which, both of you have made contributions in turn.”

Upon hearing the chairman’s words, Chloe blinked her eyes.

“…Pardon?”

“Haha, you’re surprised as well. I had little expectation myself. I was worried because you seemed lost on the first day, but you came perfectly prepared.”
