Cedric Theodore wandered around the heavily disheveled room. His footsteps were erratic, and the pace was randomly changing. It was a phenomenon often seen in those whose minds were restless.

“My pawn?”

He stopped in the middle of the floor and reminisced. The voice of a dreadful man echoed in his mind.

“Oh, should I make a bet? Who will perish first, you or me? What is more fatal between your pawn and mine?”

A threat thrown by Kuhn, who had realized Cedric’s attempt to assassinate Cloe with Calice.

Kuhn, known to Cedric, doesn’t tremble in fear.

But a pawn? Is it something that could be fatal to Cedric?

A feeling of unease engulfed him.

After wandering around the spacious room for a while, Cedric sat on a couch. After gulping down the remaining wine in one go, he collapsed as if his strength had given out.

He just stared blankly at the expensive chandelier adorned with tightly packed jewels. His demeanor was like that of a newborn lacking intelligence, gazing fixedly at a mobile.

Suddenly, Cedric, who had been immersed in endless gloom, sprang up.

Come to think of it, Kuhn’s pawn might not be as insignificant as he thought.

“No, I don’t know. Except for my deceased father, no one knows the truth. And it’s impossible for that woman to blurt out the facts stupidly!”

Kuhn had no way of knowing what Cedric was worried about. It was evident that he used a trivial number that would hardly be noticed as a threat.

Kuhn, who tried to drag me down with a petty method, was amusing. The fear felt for a moment was nothing.

“I should teach my brother not to waste his efforts.”

Quickly regaining his energy, Cedric poured more alcohol into the empty glass. The taste of the liquor was pleasant, smoothly flowing down.

After drinking all the remaining alcohol in the bottle, he felt intoxicated. Thinking that he should close his eyes for a moment, he lay down in the same spot.

“…Hurry up!”

As Cedric was about to ask for a short nap, a noisy sound reached him.

‘Just a little longer.’

Cedric, acting like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum, opened his bleary eyes. The muffled sound seemed as if someone was searching the room.

Startled, Cedric stood up. Without Cedric Theodore’s permission, someone ignorant was searching the room. He had to punish them for their audacity.

“What are you doing!”

However, even with his angry shout, the knights didn’t bat an eye. Those who had shown no reaction to Cedric’s tantrum seemed to be waiting for someone’s command.

The man who commanded the knights in the center nodded as if indicating them to continue their search.

The knights, who had been ignoring Cedric’s words from the beginning, resumed their search, apparently waiting for another order.

Among them, there was a bold knight searching under the couch, clearing Cedric’s feet. Their actions toward Duke Theodore were all disrespectful.
Cedric, whose patience had run out, drew his sword and swung it at the man standing in the center.

Now that he looked closely, it was Liam Sahir, the damn guy.

“What is this, Liam Sahir! How dare you invade the mansion without my permission and order knights to search the room! Whatever the reason, it’s unacceptable!”

Liam’s black eyebrows briefly lifted before settling down, forming a mountain. He casually lowered Cedric’s sword at his throat.

“I’ve come to retrieve the Duke Theodore family’s seal.”

“Retrieve? What nonsense is this! Are you planning a rebellion? Do you know who I am…!”

“It’s an imperial decree.”

“What?”

“As I mentioned, it’s not the arbitrary decision of the Sahir Duchy, resembling a rebellion. It’s an imperial decree from our great Emperor. As evidence, I showed the edict.”

He displayed the edict.

“Liam Sahir,

As of now, proclaim the condemnation of the Duke Theodore family. So, retrieve the family seal that was bestowed by the Sahir royal family.

This is an imperial order issued in the name of the Emperor, so fulfill the mission no matter what. You are allowed to use any means and methods for the task.”

Familiar handwriting of the Emperor.

And beneath it, the imperial seal.

“What is this…”

“It’s an imperial decree. Please, Duke Cedric Theodore, follow it. I don’t want to resort to force against the duke.”

Liam wasn’t just making empty claims.

As if Cedric couldn’t believe it, he grabbed Liam’s collar.

“This can’t be! Even if it’s an imperial decree, it can’t be allowed! It’s not just any family; it’s the Theodore Duke! It can’t be condemned by a single word of the Emperor!”

“That statement can be made in front of the Emperor, not by me. You’ll likely be stopped by the palace guards, though.”

“You brat! Just because you’ve got some backbone!”

While Cedric was venting his frustration, a knight who had entered his office rushed in.

“My lord, we found a safe that is presumed to contain the seal.”

“Good, bring it. Move it.”

“Yes!”

Watching the hurried knight, Cedric expressed disbelief in a furious manner. His copper-colored skin gradually turned redder.
