“Wow!”
The audience buzzed again.
The fallen noble who had ended the war and brought peace seemed like a hero out of a fairy tale.
Moreover, he was the only man who had been granted a dukedom despite not being of royal blood.
In the rational world of nobility, maybe not, but among commoners, Callis Argen’s standing was unparalleled.
“Callis Argen! Callis Argen!”
“The hero of the kingdom!”
“The knight of peace!”
The people of the kingdom were desperately waiting for Callis. One after another, grandiose epithets followed him.
“There’s the hero!”
A child pointed ahead and yelled.
Callis was leisurely walking up the stage, flapping his cloak. He wore the kingdom’s armor that had protected him during the war, with a rusty sword, no better than scrap iron, at his waist.
“Hero!”
“Wow!”
People roared each time Callis took a step. They seemed ready to praise every single strand of his wind-blown hair.
With confidence, he drew his sword and lifted it toward the sun. The dazzling light reflected from the sun was almost blinding.
The sword that was pointing upwards plunged down like an arrow. Then, his hand was raised over the upright sword.
“I pay my respects to the Emperor and the King.”
He respectfully bowed on one knee to the rulers of the two nations.
“You, Duke Argen, who brought peace to the two nations, are needed in both countries, where slaughter and evil still dwell even after the war.”
This time, the Emperor drew his own sword. The sword, engraved with the Freihid royal emblem, was planted next to the hero’s.
“Pure and resilient hero, Callis Argen. Tell the people your story. The time it took for you, a mere fallen noble, to get to this place, that valuable heroic tale.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
He rose from his humble position.
He then proceeded to close the distance with the people. The eyes admiring him became increasingly clear, and a wave of pleasure washed over him instantly.
So many people were watching him.
In the area reserved for nobles, familiar faces appeared.
While he was performing on the stage, they were busy gawking at him, sucking their thumbs.
‘Ha, I am indeed the most remarkable person.’
Nobles who looked down upon him due to his lofty birth. Nobles who immediately dismissed him as a disgrace.
Pretending to be noble while shunning him, the fact that he was superior remained unchanged.
Even Chloe, the one born into the most distinguished lineage in the kingdom, was lingering in the background, unable to step onto the stage.
‘Once the festival is over, I’ll rise again in the Empire. Just like three years ago when I was acknowledged as a hero! The nobles will have no choice but to accept me now, admired as I am in the Empire!’
Countless pupils fixated on him were unbearably lovely.
He barely managed to hold back a bright smile. He opened his mouth, imitating a serious knight as best as he could.
“I am Callis Argen, a knight who greatly contributed to the armistice between the two nations three years ago.”
For his speech, he recalled his distant past. When he was wandering through ruins, struggling to survive the war.
Born into a once-renowned family, burdened with colossal debt from birth. He grew up doing labor indistinguishable from a commoner, carrying an empty title.
Neither honorable nor enjoyable days. The only thing that made him happy was his lover, Helena.
But even that life was shattered when he was drafted into the war. He went to lay down his life for a homeland that had done nothing for him.
“Born into a family of yore with deep prestige, I have lived my life burdened with enormous debt. However! I nurtured hope even in that detestable life. Believing that one day I would revive my family… My swordsmanship, polished through tears, and my perseverance, never abandoned! Finally shone in the face of war. It was when the war of the Empire came three years ago.”
For years, lying had been second nature to Callis, making this level of deceit rather cute. He effortlessly continued speaking, winning the hearts of the public.
Before proceeding with his next statement, Callis slightly turned his body to face the Emperor.
Due to the distance, he couldn’t properly see the Emperor’s expression behind the mask. Therefore, it was unclear whether Kun was satisfied with Callis’s narrative.
There had been no time to confer privately with the Emperor because of the postponed audience. Consequently, Callis had not even had the opportunity to have the contents of his speech reviewed.
‘It will be fine just to present the story I prepared arbitrarily.’
Ah, who cares! He turned his body back to the front.
“Three years ago, the war that began was honestly terrifying. I spent each day in fear, wondering when I could return home and see my loved ones again.”
Callis substantially altered the conversation he had had with the Emperor at the military camp. Speaking the simple truth wouldn’t have been as dramatic.
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
