“Anyway, it’s difficult to make a judgment right now. Regardless of what happened, it’s undeniably a miracle. I’ll prescribe some beneficial treatments for him.”

As the healer packed his bag, Adel quickly stepped towards him.

“Could you please stay in the domain and continue to observe His Grace for a few more days?”

Adel asked, avoiding Valentin’s intense gaze. Keeping a healer in the domain for an extended period would cost a considerable sum. Usually, it would be an outrageous suggestion given Ansargar’s financial situation, but now they had some gold from the spoils of war.

“If it’s not too much trouble, just for a couple more days…”

Her voice faded, losing confidence. Was this okay, deciding without consulting the steward? But she couldn’t always seek permission for matters concerning the Duke’s well-being.

To her relief, the healer seemed almost ecstatic.

“Of course, I’d welcome it. To be close to such a precious subject… I mean, to serve His Grace personally is a great honor.”

“How much would it cost…?”

Adel’s cheeks flushed slightly. The steward, not the newly awakened Duke, held financial authority. If the healer’s fee was exorbitant, she’d have to request the steward’s assistance.

She glanced at the butler standing at the door. Suddenly, she felt a strong grip on her wrist.

“Ah…”

Valentin’s gaze had grown fierce. Seemingly believing the butler and healer made her tense, he turned his stern face towards them.

The healer hurriedly showed five fingers.

“I’ll only charge five gold coins a day, considering I’ll be getting valuable data.”

Adel sighed inwardly, relieved. That amount could be covered by the money she had saved from selling her embroidery.

Just then, there was a noise outside. A maid with a tray entered.

“I’ve brought some light snacks.”

On the tray were soup, soft bread, and honeyed water – all easy on the stomach after a long period without food.

As the tray was placed on the bedside table, Herman readied to assist. Adel gently pushed Valentin away.

“Then, Your Grace, please rest now. I shall…”

“Ah, don’t… go…”

As Adel moved to leave, Valentin quickly jumped out of bed, grasping her forearm urgently. He had forgotten he was barefoot, stepping carelessly on the cold floor.

“Ah, don’t… don’t…”

His voice was irregular. He almost seemed ready to kneel, desperately holding her waist and touching her soft cheek and neck. His elegant eyes filled with reproach, as if she had said something unforgivable, as if she was about to leave him forever.

“Adel, don’t, Adel…”

His correct pronunciation was limited to her name. Feeling awkward, Adel’s strength drained as he pulled her forcefully into his embrace. She stumbled into his arms.

“Th-that…”

It was almost like a growl from a beast, a behavior of someone left with only the instinct to protect their possession.

Unseen by Adel, Valentin might have shown a threatening expression to the others in the room. She couldn’t see it, her cheek pressed against his solid chest, and he was significantly taller than an average man.

“If it’s not too bold, Your Highness, would you please see to His Grace’s meal? We shall leave you to rest…”

The healer and butler discreetly prepared to exit, recognizing the need to leave Adel and Valentin alone.
Even the usually stiff butler turned pale, managing to utter a few words before quickly exiting and closing the door.

Adelhite stared incredulously at the door that had been swiftly shut. A sudden silence enveloped the room.

“Adel.”

Valentin, resting his chin on her head, exhaled a contented breath. His utterance of her name almost sounded like a sigh of admiration. He gently stroked her disheveled golden hair with his fingers.

His embrace tightened gradually, making it slightly difficult for her to breathe. When she squirmed, Valentin promptly let her go.

“…….”

“…….”

Their gazes met. Valentin had been focused on her from the start, so it was a natural occurrence. Even during this brief standoff, the food continued to cool. Adel swallowed a heavy breath.

‘To watch over his meal.’

What exactly was she supposed to do with him?

After a moment’s hesitation, Adel moved towards the table, prompting Valentin to reflexively grab her wrist. The deep wrinkles on his forehead seemed to indicate immense worry for her.

‘Who exactly is worried about whom…’

In anyone’s eyes, Valentin would appear more worrisome. Adel, taking advantage of her captured wrist, gently pulled him.

“Please sit here.”

Valentin, though hesitating, obediently sat in the chair she indicated. With everyone gone, he seemed more at ease. He sat, chin propped up, looking at her for a long time, even with food in front of him.

Gurgle.

He seemed oblivious to the sound from his stomach. Despite having been ‘frozen’ for over ten days and presumably starving, there was no sign of hunger. Adel tilted her head, puzzled.

Does he not know how to eat? Or perhaps, has he forgotten the concept of eating? Considering he had even lost his instincts, it might be the case.

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?

[Reading Guide]

1. True divorce, chasing the wife to the crematorium, the female lead doesn’t look back, the male lead is Xie Yi.
