“What’s that smell?”

The moment she opened the front door, a savory aroma hit her nose. Seo Ha instantly recognized it and clapped her hands.

“Pajeon! It’s pajeon today!”

Hastening to the dining table, she found a seafood pajeon generously stuffed with ingredients and a bowl of doenjang jjigae, both giving off an irresistible fragrance. Add to that a bowl of steaming rice glistening with sheen, and there was nothing more to wish for.

“It rained today, didn’t it? You know how good Mom is at frying pancakes.”

“I know, I know. I also know how great Mom’s pajeon is.”

Seung Oh grinned broadly and sniffed the pajeon.

“Is pajeon the only thing that’s amazing? My palate’s gotten so picky because of Mom’s cooking that eating out is tough now. You’ve got to take responsibility.”

Seo Ha’s slightly exaggerated compliment was sincere.

“Thank you for always enjoying the food. Come on, Seo Ha. Try this before it gets cold.”

Ok Soon tore off a crispy edge of the pajeon, dipped it into light soy sauce dotted with chopped cheongyang peppers, and offered it to her. Watching Seo Ha immediately snatch and pop it into her mouth, Seung Oh’s face stiffened a little.

“Do you really need Mom to feed it to you before you’ll eat it?”

“I can feed you too, right? Here, Mom. Open wide—ahh.”

Ok Soon happily ate the piece Seo Ha offered. Still, the three creases between Seung Oh’s eyebrows showed no sign of fading.

“Oh, it’s stuck in my throat.”

Thanks to Seung Oh’s obvious discomfort at the table, Seo Ha felt her meal lodge in her chest and patted it several times.

“Oh dear, look at me—I forgot to bring water.”

“It’s fine. You just sit, Mom.”

Seung Oh pulled Ok Soon back into her seat as she hurried to rise and then sharply set a glass of water down in front of Seo Ha.

“You can get your own water, can’t you?”

“When did I ever ask you to?”

Ding-dong, ding-dong.

Just as a minor quarrel was about to begin, the doorbell rang with perfect timing. The conversation broke off, and everyone’s gaze turned toward the front door.

“Who could it be? We’re not expecting anyone.”

“I’ll go check, Mom.”

“Be quick about it. Since you’re already up, Seung Oh, you go.”

Ok Soon held Seo Ha’s hand to keep her seated and gestured. Seung Oh wore a reluctant expression.

“I’m the son-in-law of this house. They say a son-in-law is a hundred-year guest—doesn’t it seem odd for the guest to go answer the door himself?”

Seung Oh often spouted such nonsense, picked up from who-knows-where. It wasn’t a big deal, though—love made it easy to overlook.

“Goodness, you. Mom lives in this house, so how can you be a hundred-year guest? It’s just your wife’s family home—that’s all.”

While mother and son bantered lightly, Seo Ha simply stood up and went herself. It wasn’t like the front door was five hundred meters away; it was far easier to just go check than stand around like that.

“…Who is it?”

The young woman peeking at the intercom screen was someone Seo Ha didn’t recognize at all. Dressed in a slightly shabby jacket with her hair tied back messily, she looked neither like a salesperson nor a door-to-door solicitor.

Ding-dong, ding-dong.

The doorbell rang again. Only then did Ok Soon walk over and ask,

“Who is it?”

“I don’t know. It’s a young woman.”

“A woman? Ah, it must be Ji Soo. You can open the door.”

“Ji Soo?”

“She’s Nan Joo’s daughter, Lee Ji Soo. Guess she didn’t know your mom’s off today.”

When Seo Ha pressed the button, the woman on the screen bowed politely. Soon after, faint footsteps approached through the garden and stopped at the front door.

Knock knock.

“Come in, Ji Soo. The door’s unlocked.”

The front door opened cautiously. Right at that moment, as if perfectly timed, Seung Oh emerged from the kitchen, crossing the living room to the entrance.

“Why aren’t you coming in? Everything’s getting cold.”

“Oh, hello.”

Seung Oh’s grumbling and the woman’s hesitant greeting happened almost simultaneously. In that fleeting instant, Seo Ha felt the eyes of Seung Oh and the woman named “Ji Soo” lock precisely.

It was an unpleasant coincidence.

“You came to see Mom? What should we do—your mom’s off today. Didn’t she tell you?”

Amid the oddly awkward atmosphere, Ok Soon spoke warmly.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

“Oh, um… actually, I didn’t come to see Mom.”

Lee Ji Soo shyly held out a worn paper bag with a fried chicken logo and a black plastic bag.

“It’s… um, the clothes you lent me last time. I brought those back, and also made some bindaetteok. Since it’s raining, I thought the mistress and you could share it…”

“Pfft!”

Suddenly, a loud burst of laughter erupted—louder than any Seung Oh had made in the past few days, as far as Seo Ha could recall.

“Why are you laughing, honey?”

“Heh, pffft…”

Still chuckling without answering, Seung Oh stepped briskly toward Ji Soo.

“You said your name is Ji Soo, right?”

“Y-yes? Oh, yes.”

Lee Ji Soo hastily nodded, her neck already tinged pink.

“By any chance, is the ‘mistress’ you mentioned the lady of this house—the house owner’s wife?”

“….”

Ji Soo lowered her gaze, clearly embarrassed. Through the loose strands of hair tied with a yellow rubber band, her reddened earlobes peeked out.

“That’s enough, honey. It’s rude to a stranger.”

Feeling strangely irritated, Seo Ha gently pushed Seung Oh aside and snatched the shopping bag and plastic bag from Ji Soo’s hands.

“I’m sorry. My husband’s still immature.”

Ji Soo slowly raised her head. Was it just Seo Ha’s imagination, or did those plain, gentle brown eyes quickly scan her from head to toe?

“Oh, hello… there.”

She was the kind of ordinary woman you’d pass on the street three times a day—dull-skinned, wearing an old tracksuit stained with oil splatters. Rain dripped from her rusty, two-tiered checkered umbrella onto her dirty slippers, further muddying the floor.

“Give me your umbrella. I’ll put it away.”

Concerned about the marble floor that the staff would have to clean again, Seo Ha kindly held out her hand.

“Oh, no! I-I’m s-sorry! I’ll… um…!”

“Just put it over there—by the door.”

Ok Soon pointed to the umbrella stand where Seung Oh’s umbrella was already placed. Ji Soo crammed hers in beside it and turned to bow repeatedly.

“I’m s-sorry, miss. I’ll clean the floor myself. Where’s the rag…?”

It wasn’t a pleasant sight—this mouselike, shabby girl visibly cowering before another young woman dressed in an elegant dress.

It looked as if I were bullying her.

When Seo Ha was little, if she ever got angry at a slightly poorer child, she’d be labeled the bad kid—even when the fault clearly lay with the other child. The blame was unavoidable, so Seo Ha learned early on how to hide her displeasure and act in ways others found agreeable.

“Don’t worry about the floor. You’re Lee Ji Soo, right? I’m Yoon Seo Ha, the daughter of this house. And this is my husband and Mom Kim Ok Soon’s son, Lee Seung Oh. Nice to meet you.”

Ji Soo reached out to take Seo Ha’s warmly offered hand but hesitated and instead rubbed her palm against her pants.

“I’m sorry. My hands are dirty. I was worried you’d find them unpleasant…”

Seo Ha stared at Ji Soo, dumbfounded. Watching Ji Soo scrub her hands as if she’d time-traveled from the Joseon dynasty to act like a lowly commoner bowing before a princess, only one thought crossed her mind:

‘What on earth is she doing?’

Whether Ji Soo sensed that thought or not, after diligently wiping her hands, she lightly grasped Seo Ha’s fingertips and gave a small shake. Then Seung Oh suddenly extended his hand.

“I’m Lee Seung Oh. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Ji Soo frantically rubbed her hands again and then firmly took Seung Oh’s hand.

“I-I’m Lee Ji Soo. My mom is Park Nan Joo. Um… she always says how well the mistress treats her… I mean, not ‘mistress’—”

“Pffahaha!”

Seung Oh, who’d been barely suppressing a smirk, finally burst into loud laughter.

He could laugh that heartily? Seo Ha felt a strange sense of alienation from Lee Seung Oh—the man she’d loved her whole life.

“Just call her ‘Madam.’ Didn’t Mom even tell you that?”

“Well, since your in-laws just laughed along, I figured I’d let it slide for now.”

Ok Soon joined in with giggles, and Ji Soo’s face turned a shy peach-pink.

“Th-then, I-I’ll be going now. My bus is about to leave.”

“Wait a moment, Ji Soo. Have you had dinner?”

Ji Soo shook her head at Ok Soon’s question.

“Perfect. You said you made bindaetteok, right? We’ve just started dinner—join us and eat together. Seo Ha, Seung Oh, that’s fine, isn’t it?”

“Mom, I was.”

“Of course it’s fine!”

Her words—“I’m uncomfortable”—drowned beneath Seung Oh’s booming voice. When Seo Ha shot him a sidelong glance, Seung Oh, unusually for him, offered a detailed explanation.

“It’s a fully set table—just add one more spoon. Sending someone away hungry on a rainy day is heartless, isn’t it? Don’t you agree?”

The atmosphere made it clear: disagree, and she’d instantly be branded heartless.

“Exactly. You can’t just send someone off without a meal—that’s no way to treat people. Come in, Ji Soo. We’ve just laid everything out.”

Ok Soon added her own encouragement, taking Ji Soo’s arm to pull her in. Ji Soo, unable to refuse, took off her shoes with a shy smile.

Fine. She can share a meal.

Seo Ha forced down her discomfort and turned toward the kitchen. But as she walked, the paper bag caught on a potted plant, the handle slipped, and its contents spilled out.

“Oh!”

Seo Ha bent to pick up the clothes. Her flawlessly manicured, nude-toned fingers lifted a dress embroidered with foreign stitching.

That embroidery looked familiar. Holding the dress with both hands and unfolding it, Seo Ha’s expression turned icy.

“…This is my dress.”

It was a handmade dress she’d bought from a flea market vendor in a small European village. There was no way an identical one existed in Korea. And even if one somehow did, it was impossible for the embroidery to match down to the exact stitch she’d trimmed with a fabric shaver.

“Lee Ji Soo.”

Seo Ha strode into the kitchen and thrust the dress forward.

“Where did you get this?”

“Th-that?”

Ji Soo blinked her wide eyes.

“I, um… I spilled water while washing dishes. Aunt Soon-ja lent it to me to wear, but… uh…”

Her eyes instantly reddened and shimmered with moisture, on the verge of tears. Seung Oh, glancing over, wore a faintly displeased frown—apparently something about this bothered him.

“Oh dear, that’s right! That’s the one I lent her!”

Ok Soon waved it off as if it were nothing.

“One of my commuting helpers had a flat tire the other day. This girl came over to help out for her mom, who was overwhelmed. She worked so hard—same age as you—and her clothes got ruined, so I pulled out one of your discarded outfits and gave it to her. I told her to just keep it, yet here she is, washing it and bringing it all the way back. Isn’t that just too sweet?”

A single tear finally rolled down Ji Soo’s cheek. As for Seo Ha, she was utterly flabbergasted. Who exactly was crying here? And who really wanted to cry?

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife

I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro

When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.

After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.

Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.

Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.

At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.

Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.

The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.

He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.

[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
