My Husband Fell in Love - Chapter 14
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.
Seo Ha’s heart pounded rapidly.
Ryu Kyung Joon, whom she’d met again after three years, was utterly different from the man she remembered. The eyes she’d once thought merely slightly sharp now cut like blades, and his speech—once blunt but human—now carried not a trace of warmth.
“Just ask. Why did you come?”
Kyung Joon took another step forward and slammed the door shut.
“Did you come to squeeze money out of me over what happened earlier? Or did someone send you to check on things?”
The fact that this man was staying beside his mother probably meant that Kang Yoon Company hadn’t yet been absorbed into Tae Yang Group.
Seo Ha nervously removed her hand from her mouth.
“I’m sorry for coming without telling you. I kept seeing your mother in my mind.”
Kyung Joon frowned, clearly puzzled by her words.
“My mother is sick too. Your mother is around the same age and seems similarly unwell… When you suddenly called me ‘daughter,’ I felt guilty and came up to see.”
Kyung Joon stared at Seo Ha suspiciously for a long while. Seo Ha, refusing to back down, lifted her chin and met his gaze directly.
“…Fine. Let’s say that’s true.”
Eventually, Kyung Joon straightened his back and stepped back a pace.
“Thank you for your concern, but our president is in excellent health, so please refrain from unnecessary interference or approaches. I hope you recover soon.”
Despite his courteous tone, his finger pointed firmly down the stairs—clearly telling her to leave immediately.
‘Going down is even harder.’
Helplessly, Seo Ha began descending the stairs one unsteady step at a time. Though she was clearly unwell, Kyung Joon just stood there with his arms crossed, watching sternly to see if she’d really leave.
Seo Ha’s repeated attempts to meet Hae Sun—even from afar—kept failing. Worse still, her constant lingering around had caught Kyung Joon’s attention, making any approach even more difficult.
Amid all this, Seo Ha finally learned that her actual body was quietly resting in a VIP hospital room.
‘That’s a relief. Truly.’
If Yoon Seo Ha had awakened as Jo Seo Ha, or if Jo Seo Ha had awakened as Yoon Seo Ha, how horrifying that would have been.
A few more days passed, her rehabilitation ended, and her discharge date arrived. Naturally, she had nowhere to contact.
The only address she had was the one on her resident registration card—and twenty thousand won in cash.
Holding these, Seo Ha asked around until she found her “home.” The neighborhood was desolate: narrow, steep cement paths winding endlessly, crude murals peeling from wind and rain, making the whole place look even more dismal.
Her “home” was a dilapidated house wedged halfway up that rundown hillside.
[Beware of Dog]Fierce red letters were scrawled across the rusted gate. Hesitating for a moment, Seo Ha carefully pushed the door open.
“Grr! Grr-grr!”
Immediately, a dog that seemed to embody the warning sign charged at her, barking ferociously.
“…?”
Seo Ha stared blankly down at the Chihuahua, which was far too insignificant to warrant real caution.
“What even are you? Want a dog treat?”
“Grr?”
Whether reacting to the word “treat” or not, the Chihuahua stopped advancing and hovered a short distance away, whimpering softly.
Just then, a large man flung open the front door and lumbered out.
“Kim Min Ji! Why’s all this noise— Wait, what?”
He looked to be around thirty, wearing a T-shirt stained with kimchi soup, gray sweatpants with knees worn thin, and mismatched plastic slippers—one strap already splitting apart.
He was exactly the type of person Seo Ha had never spoken a word to in her life.
“Jo Seo Ha!”
The man barked out her name harshly.
“Jo Seo Ha, where the hell have you been all this time? You left your phone and everything! Damn it, don’t you know the world’s a scary place for a girl? Hey, do you have any idea how much I looked for you? Three years! Not two, but three whole damn years! If you’d died, at least send a message!”
He clearly knew Jo Seo Ha—and for some reason, he was furious right now. Seo Ha stared at him blankly for a moment, then calmly opened her mouth.
“Excuse me.”
“What do you mean, ‘excuse me’!”
Stomping over, he reached for her arm, then cursed and ruffled only his own hair in frustration.
“Did you eat?”
When Seo Ha shook her head, he grew even angrier.
“See! If you’re just gonna wander around starving, why leave home? I told you to pay rent whenever you could! Ugh, damn it—we only have ramen now. You’re really pissing me off!”
He spun around, flung the front door wide open, then snapped at her again.

“Aren’t you coming in? You gonna stand there forever?”
“It’s not that.”
“If you don’t come in now, there won’t even be ramen! Kim Min Ji, you coming too? How can you guard the house if you don’t even recognize Jo Seo Ha!”
The “Beware of Dog” Chihuahua wagged its pitiful tail and trotted inside. After a brief hesitation, Seo Ha reluctantly followed.
“Excuse my intrusion.”
“Forget greetings and just sit down.”
Grumbling, the man roughly pulled out a dining chair and shoved it toward her.
“Damn it. Even the ramen’s cheap-ass ramen. Ugh.”
The tiny kitchen soon filled with clattering sounds and the bubbling aroma of cooking ramen.
The smell instantly made her stomach growl and her mouth water. But when she saw the ramen pot on the table, she hesitated to pick up her chopsticks.
“…I’ll eat well.”
There was no Han River as sad as this one. So much water had been added that the noodles were invisible, and the two floating eggs looked like duck boats on the Han.
“Eat.”
The man scooped a heap of ramen into a green germanium dish for her, then took the yellow metal pot lid as his own plate and slurped a mouthful.
“This tastes like crap.”
He could complain all he wanted, even though he’d cooked it himself. He grabbed two pieces of kimchi straight from the side-dish container and chewed loudly.
“Aren’t you eating?”
Out of politeness, Seo Ha took a bite. It really didn’t taste good.
Noticing her expression, he grumbled again.
“If it’s bland, just eat it. We only have cheap ramen—what am I supposed to do? It’s your fault for not handling spice.”
“I can’t eat spicy food?”
Seo Ha’s question made him snap back irritably.
“What the hell are you talking about—going to Kimbab Heaven after dying? Did you hit your head or something?”
“Yes.”
“What!”
He jumped up so suddenly that Seo Ha nearly dropped her chopsticks.
“Damn it, where are you hurt? How bad is it? You should’ve called! Did you go to the hospital? Of course you didn’t! Ugh, if you die, who the hell am I supposed to get the overdue rent from! Let me see!”
He looked ready to rip through her hair right then and there. Flustered but composed, Seo Ha quickly calmed him.
“It’s not like that. Please calm down and sit. Let me explain.”
“I’m just looking! Do you think I’ll eat you?”
“I’ve already finished treatment and was discharged, so don’t worry.”
“Worry? Why would I worry about you!”
“If you’re not worried, then sit down.”
Seo Ha spoke firmly. The man paused, then sat back down and crossed his arms. Neither of them touched the Han River duck-boat ramen.
“Go ahead—tell me if it’s real talk or just nonsense.”
Seo Ha tore off a square of toilet paper rolling on the table and dabbed the corner of her mouth.
“I’m Jo Seo Ha.”
(Though in truth, I’m Yoon Seo Ha.)
“So?”
“And that’s all I know about myself. I don’t remember anything else—not my job, what kind of person I was, not even my age.”
The man stared at her with the most bewildered expression she’d ever seen.
“…What did you say?”
“Amnesia. I was in a car accident. They said my memory might come back with time—or it might not. I came here because it’s the address on my resident registration, and of course, I don’t know who you are either.”
Seo Ha explained slowly and clearly so he’d understand. It didn’t seem to help much.
“So… you had an accident?”
“Yes.”
“Which bastard was it? Who ran over my tenant?”
“The prosecution is investigating.”
“Damn it.”
He cursed, then ran a hand through his hair in frustration.

“So you remember absolutely nothing. Me. You. And… hell, even family.”
“Yes.”
Seo Ha patiently nodded to each of his questions.
“So… are you hurt anywhere now?”
“My body’s fully healed. It was a serious crash, but luckily I missed any vital spots.”
“Lucky my ass.”
Strangely, his voice had softened compared to before as he muttered.
“Just eat this for now. Might as well be fu-dong.”
It truly didn’t taste good, but Seo Ha finished all the ramen and eggs he served her, and silently chewed the sour kimchi too. He seemed quite satisfied by that.
“You don’t even know which room is yours, right?”
“Yes.”
“Follow me.”
Slipping on his worn slippers, he shuffled ahead. She followed him up a narrow, steep staircase so tight two people couldn’t walk side by side, until they reached a rooftop painted green, with a simple platform and a grimy attic structure.
“That’s it. The place you lived.”
Could it really be this shabby?
Seo Ha was deeply shocked by Jo Seo Ha’s unbelievably run-down living situation.
“I lived here? As a tenant?”
“Yeah.”
She’d felt uneasy climbing the rundown neighborhood stairs, but even so—she never imagined living in a crumbling old house, let alone renting a room in its attic.
“How poor was I, exactly?”
His face twisted roughly.
“What’s with that way of talking? Just because your income was low and your spending high—”
“That’s poverty. I was poor. Dirt-poor.”
Of all the bodies to switch with, it had to be someone dirt-poor. Forget revenge—there was no clear path to even reclaiming her company.
“So what if you’re poor! People can be poor sometimes!”
He shouted. Min Ji, startled, yapped and jumped around again.
“Why are you yelling? You just called yourself poor too.”
“No, I— Just drop that poverty talk already.”
He cleared his throat loudly, took out a key, and continued.
“Go in—the room on the right is yours.”
“Is there a tenant in the left room?”
As if he hadn’t heard her question, he opened the door without answering.
“Rent’s thirty… no, thirty thousand won a month. If you can’t pay, just tell me by month-end. You’ve got a two-million-won deposit, so we’ll deduct it from there. You’re a snow goose—stay put and rest up for now. Come down for meals, and if you’re bored, take Min Ji for walks.”
“I’ve been getting meals from my landlord too?”
“Lucky you if that’s all you got! You used to run down screaming you wanted chicken or strawberries. The second you felt even a little sick, you’d wake me up in the middle of the night to take you to the hospital. And if anything broke, you’d insist the landlord fix it—even asked me to change a lightbulb! Once, when you caught a cold, you whined for days and made me do your laundry and cleaning too! Ugh, I’m exhausted just remembering it. What a nightmare tenant!”
He seemed to flare up just from recalling it. Rubbing his reddened ears, he turned to leave—but paused at the doorway.
“You forgot my name too, right?”
“Yes.”
“Kim Jae Wook.”
“Should I call you Mr. Kim Jae Wook?”
“What nonsense—like picking strawberry seeds! You used to call me ‘Oppa.’ Jae Wook Oppa.”
That sounded utterly ridiculous—like something out of a cartoon.
“That’s an inappropriate term given our landlord-tenant relationship. I’ll just call you Mr. Kim Jae Wook.”
“…”
Jae Wook stood there, mouth slightly open, staring at her as if she’d punched him. Seo Ha asked again.
“Shall I call you President Kim? Whatever you prefer.”
“No, no. Forget that.”
Jae Wook strangely stammered, then cleared his throat with a “Hmm-hmm.”
“I’m going downstairs. I’m closed today, so if you need anything, come down or don’t—your call. Let’s go, Kim Min Ji!”
“Clang!”

Jae Wook led Min Ji down the stairs with heavy steps. His tone was rough, but at least he didn’t seem like a bad person—that was a relief.

Synopsis
During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.
Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.
Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”
Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.
Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”
With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.
Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?
He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
