How long had they been riding? Just as Serena began to feel that all the tightness in her chest and the tangled thoughts in her head had finally vanished, Lucas reined in his horse beneath a large tree.

“Aren’t you cold?”

He leapt nimbly from his mount and helped Serena dismount. Their faithful steed, its black mane fluttering in the wind, wisely trotted off toward the water’s edge to quench its thirst like the noble horse it was.

“It’s refreshing.”

Serena smiled, her cheeks flushed from the wind. Wearing a man’s hooded cloak over her dress created a strangely alluring effect.

“But… is this really alright? Why so suddenly?”

“Just because.”

Lucas cut her off before she could press him further for a reason.

“It’s our honeymoon, after all—shouldn’t it be a little special? Or would you have preferred a carriage?”

“No, absolutely not! I’d rather die than ride in a carriage again!”

Serena shuddered, recalling the motion sickness she’d suffered during the carriage ride from Duke Astel’s domain to the capital.

No matter how cold the weather, the freedom of galloping on horseback through the wind was incomparable—especially after living in the imperial palace for so long.

“Of course… you did inform Their Imperial Majesties beforehand, didn’t you?”

Serena still viewed this whole affair as little more than a romantic gesture. After all, aside from Lucas, no one else would ever dare do something so reckless.

“I kidnapped you, so you don’t need to worry about anything.”
