The next day, Anna listened to Serena’s plan and wore a worried expression.

Laura was only eighteen and had taken lessons with noble ladies in the capital since childhood, which meant the age range of potential informants had become broad. However, just because an idea was clever didn’t necessarily make it good.

“Milady, the Marchioness isn’t an ordinary woman. Besides, she raised her only daughter strictly—everyone can guess how strict she must have been.”

“Yes. At eighteen, she’s young, but still a proper noble lady—commonly an age when many get married.”

Serena, now twenty-four, was already considered past her prime for marriage, so she understood why Laura was seen as marriageable. After all, even at twenty—when Serena had held her engagement ceremony—some had already deemed her late.

“I peeked earlier, and it seems the Lady Sherwood will wear a blue dress.”

Blue dresses were among Serena’s recent favorites. Perhaps the Marchioness wanted to subtly convey to Madame Abigail that her daughter was just like Serena.

“Whatever she wears, does it matter?”

“No. After all, we already have several of Madame Hailey’s dresses.”

Anna smiled faintly and looked toward the dress hanging on the rack.

The exquisite beige fabric was delicately embroidered with golden thread forming floral patterns, and the skirt, layered with multiple sheer fabrics, bloomed luxuriantly like a full flower.

“Alright, I’ll wear that one, and skip the jewelry.”

Though the dress featured a square neckline, it was already splendid enough on its own; adding anything more might make it appear excessive.

“Yes. Then today, I’ll leave your hair down and braid just a few strands, securing them with pins.”
