Marchioness Miranda, who had savored her tea alongside the Empress, carefully set her teacup down.

“Yes, I heard that Marchioness Sherwood will be assisting Lady Astel with her imperial wedding preparations?”

“Yes, I have been entrusted with an exceedingly honorable duty. Though inadequate, I shall do my utmost.”

Miranda’s gentle smile made her appear much younger than her years, and her eyes sparkled with intelligence.

“The Marchioness is a model of our Empire’s high society—truly the perfect choice to oversee the imperial wedding.”

“You flatter me. Sadly, Lady Astel lost her mother at an early age, and since Duke Astel and our Marquessate are cousins, I was asked to take on this responsibility.”

Adelaine nodded and took another sip of tea. Unlike Miranda’s overly humble and courteous demeanor, her crimson-painted lips and the jewels adorning her neck were strikingly opulent.

“The Marchioness is always far too modest.”

“I merely fulfill my duty as taught by Your Imperial Majesty the Empress.”
