Serena, who would normally be thrilled ahead of the Harvest Festival, kept tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

Anna understood exactly how she felt, but this time it was an issue no one could interfere with, so she could only watch silently.

“Sigh….”

Finally tired of tossing and turning, Serena abruptly sat up. Nearly everything about Lucas’s appearance infuriated her—but what angered her most was how his face and voice kept replaying in her mind.

“Why…? I’ve lived perfectly fine for six whole years, so why…?”

The problem was that she’d been too certain no one would ever want a wife like her. Even if Lucas remembered her again, she’d assumed that once he saw her usual behavior, he’d quickly give up on her.

“Surely he isn’t… the kind of pervert who enjoys getting hit by women?”

After several sleepless nights, all sorts of strange thoughts kept surfacing. But unless that was the case, she couldn’t understand how he’d laughed after she’d kicked him in the shin.

He hadn’t even punished her—instead, he’d calmly left the ducal residence exactly as she’d wanted.

“That part infuriates me too.”

Serena clenched her fists in frustration. It annoyed her for no reason that he’d pushed so recklessly for a marriage that determined her entire future, yet vanished without a word when told to leave.

“So, does this mean we’re getting married, or not?”

Ever since he’d left, Serena’s nights had passed with the same dilemma repeating itself. Ever since arriving in Astel, she’d been able to decide everything for herself—but now, an utterly unpredictable variable had appeared.

“Ugh, my head hurts….”

Though Lucas’s traces had long vanished from the ducal residence, inside Serena’s mind, he still moved and spoke the same words over and over.
