Before Lucas could even fully recall his carefree youth, the chief steward came looking for him.

“I present myself before His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince and Sir Glen.”

Lucas gave Glen a meaningful glance, as if to say “See?”, and nodded. Even in the past, on the battlefield, they’d had moments of leisure—raising a toast during breaks and chatting animatedly about everything under the sun—but such ease was nowhere to be found here. Truly, their era of freedom had come to an end.

“Speak.”

“A messenger has arrived from Her Imperial Highness the Crown Princess’s quarters.”

At those words, tension flickered across Lucas’s face.

Serena knew better than anyone how busy Lucas had been lately, and she herself had been so occupied that she hadn’t sent for him separately.

In fact, it had reached the point where only by visiting her late at night, unable to suppress his longing, could he manage to see her at all.

“From her? Why? What’s happened?”

“I did not hear the reason.”

“However, they said it is not urgent and requested that Your Highness visit her quarters at your convenience.”

On the surface, it sounded like a simple invitation between spouses, yet this approach didn’t suit Serena’s character at all. Though newlyweds, they already knew each other well enough for that.

“Understood.”

The chief steward bowed once more and carefully withdrew. Without hesitation, Lucas turned to Glen.
