After finishing serving Serena’s meal, Anna immediately called Jane and Lise aside into the reception room. Though she was still busy, deciding whom to take to the imperial palace was more urgent.

“I called you two here to confirm Her Imperial Highness the Crown Princess’s orders.”

Jane’s eyes widened in surprise at the unexpected statement, but Lise calmly bowed slightly in respect.

“Lise, Her Highness was very impressed by your grace. Since you two are family, Her Highness wishes to bring you both to the palace together. What are your thoughts on this?”

Unlike Jane, who froze in utter bewilderment, Lise maintained her composure and polite expression. Indeed, no matter how one looked at them, the two hardly resembled family.

“It would be an honor.”

Lise replied carefully. Jane, unsure of what to say, simply gaped, glancing back and forth between Anna and Lise.

“However, I humbly fear my aunt lacks the qualities of a lady-in-waiting…”

When silence fell, Lise quickly continued on Jane’s behalf.

“I understand. Still, the palace needs maids as well, so she should be suitable for that role.”

At first glance, this seemed like a good opportunity for Elise, but she hadn’t anticipated Jane coming along too. Moreover, Anna’s sharp gaze made her worry their relationship might be questioned.

After all, anyone could plainly see Elise and Jane shared not a single resemblance.

“Madam, if I may… my aunt seems terribly flustered. Would it be acceptable if I spoke with you privately instead?”

At Lise’s words, which carried a hint of intention, Anna nodded and gestured for Jane to leave. Jane, still wearing a bewildered expression, glanced around before quickly closing the door and departing.

“You have something to say to me?”
