Before the sun had fully risen over Nas territory, three people quietly departed, leaving behind only a single letter of encouragement. It was dawn, and Andre, who had stayed up all night to see them off, had dozed off for just a moment.

“First, it would be best to return to Astel and get yourselves properly prepared.”

Cedric’s suggestion was reasonable. Lucas alone could have gone straight to the imperial palace without issue, but the Crown Princess disguised as a man would surely cause an uproar far worse than a mere kidnapping incident.

“Still, time is of the essence… What if Your Highness goes ahead, and I stop by Astel?”

“Out of the question.”

Lucas flatly refused. Though they’d already ridden all the way to the outskirts of Astel and were safe enough, he had no desire whatsoever to part ways with her.

“I’d just gotten used to dressing as a man… What a pity.”

Serena sighed at the thought of being dragged back into Anna’s grasp and forced into another frilly dress. Riding freely and comfortably like this would be impossible once they returned to the palace.

“At least let me ride a horse all the way to the capital. The carriage makes me dreadfully queasy.”

Rarely so earnest, Serena’s plea made Lucas nod absentmindedly before he could stop himself. Cedric shot him a stern look, as if to say it was absolutely unacceptable—but it was already too late.

“Thank you.”

Serena gave a bright smile. It was such good news that it completely erased her earlier scolding of Lucas, who’d barely slept until dawn.

“Then, shall we race all the way to Astel?”

“Sounds good.”

Their adventure was far from over. Cedric sighed as he watched the two dash off like they were racing each other, then spurred his own horse to follow.
