“Walter?”

Inside the moving carriage, the black-haired man turned his head at the call from across the seat.

Though his face was as sharp as a blade, it softened the moment he looked toward the person opposite him.

“Please speak.”

“He’s not actually angry, is he? I already explained. Louis being there was purely coincidental.”

“Of course. If you say so, what else can I say? It’s certainly suspicious that he happened to be at that very spot—a place you said hardly anyone visits—at such a convenient time, but I still trust you.”

“…Then just say you don’t believe me.”

Odette protested in a sharp tone.

At any other time, Walter would have found her objection utterly adorable—so much so that he’d have been tempted to tease her right then and there—but right now, he simply couldn’t bring himself to speak lightly to his fiancée.

Ever since witnessing the quarrel between Louis and Odette, his mood had been thoroughly ruined and refused to improve.

‘I shouldn’t have delayed.’

Originally, Walter had left the banquet around the same time as Odette.

It was only natural—he’d followed right after seeing her leave.

Yet, while trailing her from a distance, he’d spotted a strange shadow following her.
