“Yes, Xavier’s ballroom was incredibly splendid…”

“Haha, Odette. I haven’t seen you in a while, and you’ve lost your touch?”

As Odette intentionally mentioned something uncatchable, Blake coldly cut her off with a laugh.

The pale irises of Blake’s eyes glowed eerily in the darkness.

“Do I have to spell it out for you? You almost got caught by Regis Xavier yesterday.”

“…!”

“There’s been no word, interestingly enough, considering it’s hard to keep such incidents a secret. How did you manage?”

Thankfully, it seemed the story hadn’t leaked from the ballroom. Odette quickly spoke up.

“…I don’t know how you found out, but it wasn’t me who did anything. I got help from Ertman Duke.”

“Ah, yes. Ertman Duke. I was planning to talk about him anyway.”

Blake snapped his fingers and then opened his mouth.

“You’re planning to marry Ertman Duke, aren’t you?”

How many times did her heart drop? She couldn’t count.

‘This is why Blake is uncomfortable.’

Not just unpredictable, but also probing deep into the core.

How much effort did she have to put in to not get caught acting in front of him?

“Lise thinks you’re tailing the Duke, but in fact, Ertman Duke came looking for you, not Lise. You may not know.”

“That’s the first time I’ve heard of it.”

Of course, it was a lie. Blake shrugged as if he hadn’t expected otherwise.

“It’s not that important. Just from the fact that Ertman Duke helped you yesterday, it’s not difficult to figure out his intentions.”

The important thing was that Balter intended to marry Odette.

And Lise didn’t know that.

“I didn’t mention it just because I found it amusing that Lise is infatuated with Ertman Duke. If the news came out in this situation that you’re marrying Ertman Duke…”

Blake tilted his head.

“Do you think Lise would just let it go? I don’t. What about you?”

“…I’m not getting married.”

“You’re hardly in a position to say no, considering you’re at risk of being sold to some wretched place. And here, a prince on a white horse… no, a Duke wants to marry you, huh?”

Scoffing, Blake wrapped up his speech.

“Stop acting, Odette. It’s much easier if you’re just honest. Do you really need to do this?”

And Odette could only agree.
Blake already knew too much.

“There’s no need to be so cautious. When I say this, it means I intend to help you.”

“……You’ll help me?”

“Yes. I was already planning to slowly distance myself from Duke Ertman. There’s no need to make a fool of Lise. She’s quite a useful sister, after all.”

And so, during this task, he planned to mollify Lise by revealing just enough of the truth.

“Lise isn’t completely foolish. If she knows that Duke Ertman was actually after you from the beginning, she’ll likely come to her senses.”

Of course, if you really want, I could introduce someone else, but that hardly seems necessary.

“So, what do you think? Quite a good deal, isn’t it?”

At Blake’s question, Odette finally moistened her dry lips.

“It’s not like you’re helping me for free. What do you want?”

“How about joining my side?”

In that moment, the playfulness in Blake’s demeanor vanished.

Instead, a distinct cynicism and sharpness filled the void.

“It’s, it’s so sudden.”

“I’ve been thinking, you’re not that conspicuous, so you could be used in multiple ways. It’s not a bad proposition.”

“But I don’t have any skills to offer……”

“Ah, that.”

Blake seemed to remember something and added,

“I had a feeling there’s a mole among Cedric’s close confidants in the royal court.”

“……!”

“It’s strange, isn’t it? The hindrances are too timely. There’s obviously a leak whenever crucial information flows out. Not surprising. The point of a mole is to go unnoticed.”

Blake’s eyes were intensely fixed on Odette as he spoke.

“What I can’t understand is, how exactly are you doing it? It’s impossible in such a short time.”

It seems like there might be magic or something that she’s hiding……

Blake trailed off, his gaze wandering before meeting Odette’s again.

As if he knew it all.

“What do you think, Odette?”

“No, how can you lie down without even changing your clothes!”

“I’m just too tired, Ellie…”

Odette had completely collapsed as soon as she returned to the palace.

Had Ellie not pulled her back up, she would have surely fainted without even taking off her outdoor clothes.

“Why are you so exhausted? What happened at Belfort Academy?”

“No, it was more like… the way back was the problem.”

Meeting Blake had completely drained her.

Odette recalled the earlier conversation in the corridor.

[Dash] “What do you think, Odette?”

That was how Blake had cornered her.

[Dash] “Um… I don’t know?”

Odette’s chosen method was ‘playing coy’.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
