Just as she was about to step out, Ho Jin’s jaw crumpled like a peach seed and soon his eyes sparkled.
Wondering why she was alone, Seo Hee looked around.
Checking if her group was really not there, there was only one glass on the square table.
“Why is it like that?”
Seo Hee murmured to herself.
“Huh? What did you say?”
“Oh. Nothing.”
Seo Hee could not take her eyes off Ho Jin.
Surely, the girl in her memory loved to make silly jokes and never stopped talking.
Seo Hee thought that her back then suited Ho Jin more than his current sobbing figure, with her mouth firmly shut.
Did he get dumped?
Seo Hee deliberately sat diagonally where she could see Ho Jin well and casually listened to what her classmates were saying.
“Ah. Annoying.”
“What is?”
Her colleague looked at where Seo Hee’s gaze was directed.
“A familiar person?”
“Well. I know him. But not very well.”
At the mention of a familiar person, everyone’s gaze turned to Ho Jin all at once.
“Seo Hee, shouldn’t you go see him? He’s crying.”
“Yeah. He’s crying.”
Seo Hee turned her gaze and loosely crossed her arms.
“But, he looks quite cute. What does he do?”
“Prosecutor.”
At the word prosecutor, her friends exchanged surprised looks.
“Why is our cute man drinking alone with a heartbroken face? What happened?”
“Mind your business. People have heartaches and days when they want to be alone. Isn’t it just that?”
Although she said so, the person who cared the most was Seo Hee.
As her falling tears filled the glass, she tutted her tongue but never took her eyes off.
“Hey, make your decision fast.”
“What.”
“Look there. The blue tie sitting at that table.”
At her colleague’s words, Seo Hee’s gaze fell from Ho Jin.
“They keep looking at that cute prosecutor. Go and pretend you know him, or take him home.”
The man at the table her colleague pointed out was indeed staring at Ho Jin.
Seeing him hesitantly packing his things, as if he had decided to make a dash, Seo Hee’s annoyance surged.
“Ah. It’s annoying.”
That’s how she spit out her words for now.
But she rose from her seat without hesitation.
“See you next time. Don’t care about what I’m doing at that table, have fun.”
Seo Hee waved lightly to her colleagues.
Then she quickly moved to the table where Ho Jin was sitting.
As if to show the man with the strange heart.
“Prosecutor Ho Jin. What are you doing here?”
Su Hee, with a deeply furrowed brow, sat directly across from Ho Jin.
As soon as he heard her cool voice, Ho Jin’s face, which had been looking down at his glass, quickly lifted.
“Huh? It’s General Su Hee.”
Ho Jin, seemingly still in his right mind, recognized Su Hee and called her ‘General’ as he had when they first met.
“Ha. I told you, I don’t like being called a general. I think I told you that last time too.”
“I can’t even call a general a general. This isn’t a fairy tale. What. Sob.”
Ho Jin spouted nonsensical words and shed tears like a sudden downpour.
Embarrassed by the sudden situation, Su Hee looked around and said,
“Why are you crying? I don’t know what’s going on, but please stop it.”
“I can’t stop.”
His confident response made Su Hee’s brow crease even more.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m…sigh. I’m about to throw off my heavy clothes and leave the prosecutor’s office. It’s too dirty and mean. I can’t do it. No! I won’t!”
Ho Jin expressed his resentment with his body, shaking his shoulders clad in the jacket he was wearing.
As he declared loudly that he would resign immediately, Su Hee looked around like a meerkat in surprise.
“I work about 330 days out of 365. Almost every day, I work late.”
Ho Jin, who had drained his glass in one go, began to pour out his soul in earnest.
“Sacrificing the bare minimum life that a person should enjoy. Sob. Beating the bad guys in the world and making sure there are no aggrieved people, day and night… and again, I got a reprimand! How many times does this make it!”
Emotionally overwhelmed, Ho Jin kept crying, beating the table.
Seemingly out of options, Su Hee quickly extended a handkerchief to him.
“There, there. I understand the prosecutor’s grievances! Use this to wipe your tears, and let’s go out for now. I’ll take you home.”
“Hold on. I haven’t even really started yet.”
Ho Jin, who had been swaying from side to side, began to list his grievances one after the other.
Listening quietly with patience, Su Hee let out a sigh and spoke.
“So, even though you did nothing wrong, the petitioner, who was investigated and left, filed a malicious complaint, and you got scolded by the director and even had to write a statement. Is that right?”
“Sigh. It was close, but the feeling it gave me was totally different.”
“Oh, my goodness.”
“Could there be a place for me in your law firm, General?”
Su Hee began to gently coax Ho Jin, who was singing about resigning and writing his resignation letter the next day.
“Why wait until tomorrow morning? Let’s go right now. I’ll make a call. Let’s hurry.”
“Ri, right now? I’m messed up… Well, let’s pay the bill first.”

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
